Apple’s iPhones dominated the best-selling models’ list for Q1 2021 both in terms of volume as well as value, according to the Counterpoint Research Global Handset Model Tracker, Q1 2021.

Analysis by Revenue
The global smartphone revenues crossed the $100-billion mark in Q1 2021, setting a first-quarter record driven by the flagships, which grabbed most of the earnings.

The top 10 list of highest revenue grossing models in Q1 2021 was dominated by Apple and Samsung. The iPhone Pro Max captured the highest revenue in the industry, followed by the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 11, and the S21 Ultra 5G.

In some regions, consumers preferred to buy higher variants of the devices. The iPhone 12 Pro Max was the best-selling model in the US. The S21 Ultra 5G also sold more than the lower variants in the US and Europe. The S21 series, which was launched at cheaper prices than the S20 series, was also supported by strong carrier promotions.

With the exception of the iPhone 11 and iPhone SE 2020, all the models in the list were 5G capable. 5G has now become a standard offering in the premium segment.

The top 10 highest revenue grossing models captured close to 46% of the global smartphone revenues, which are a lot more consolidated than the volumes, where the top 10 best-selling models captured only 21% of the global smartphone volumes. This also indicates the advantages of being present in the premium segment (>$400), which contributed to 65% of the global smartphone revenues in Q1 2021.

The importance of the premium segment in terms of revenue contribution is one of the reasons many Chinese OEMs, like OPPO, vivo and Xiaomi, are eyeing it. Entering the premium segment also unlocks access to consumers who potentially have a higher lifetime value.

Analysis by Volume

In terms of volume, the iPhone 12 was the best-selling model in Q1 2021, followed by the iPhone 12 Pro Max and iPhone 12 Pro. Strong 5G upgrades within the iOS base, pent-up demand and the spillover of Apple’s demand due to the late launch were some of the factors driving the volumes for Apple. The iPhone 11 captured the fourth spot as it remains a popular choice for users looking for lower-cost Apple devices and in markets like India where 5G services are still elusive.

Unlike the revenue list, the volume list also features devices from the affordable segment. The volumes for the Redmi 9A were driven by its strong performance in China and India, while the Redmi 9 performed well in the South East Asian market. The strong performance of the Redmi 9A, Redmi 9 and Redmi Note 9 helped Xiaomi maintain its pole position in the sub-$150 price band globally, capturing a 19% share in the segment.

Samsung was the only other OEM featuring in the top 10 list. The Galaxy A12, A21S and A31 captured the seventh, ninth and tenth positions respectively. The volumes for these models were driven by the MEA, India and LATAM markets. The models helped Samsung lead the $150-$250 price band, capturing 28% of its volumes. Notably, the $150-$250 band was also the highest volume grossing segment globally.

I've been using this Redmi 6 for over 2 years now. It has fallen countless times and I've never taken it for repair.

The era of hanging is far away, unless you use a budget device maybe. But you forget iPhones don't make budget hardware, so how would you expect it to hang like crap?
Even a 2015 Flagship Android will not hang like a dirt cheap Tecno device made in 2020.

The only reason you could legitimately offer is the longevity of the OS updates but Flagship Androids are catching up with 3 years of updates. Noteworthy to mention Androids are already so mature feature-wise that iOS is only still catching up to even arguably android 9.

iPhones are still stuck with 20w charging and 60HZ refresh displays in 2021. How shocking. And you talk about "being better"?
Scrolling is even noticeably slower on the supposedly faster iPhone

Let's face it, Nigerians only love iPhones because it's a status boost. I'm sure we've all seen people accessing a social media user's status by his "sent from iPhone" stamp.

For instance, Nigerians love sharing files since there's a bottleneck on data usage but it's so restricted on iOS. And you tell me it's really loveable?
You can't even copy data easily from a computer and you talk about productivity?

Not to mention buying apps on the app store that are free on playstore.

About the camera, I disagree with regular photos.
You want to tell me the S21 ultra wouldn't shoot comparable or even superior photos in some scenarios? Don't kid yourself.

Hate to break it to you but this your post is purposefully dense with a very myopic, tunneled vision, POV, I'ld even dare call it daft. To dispel the crap reasoning you put up there is straight forward. iPhones are mainly premium phones or "flagship" made with premium specifications hence they are very pricy. An average Nigerian simply can't afford a brand new iPhone cause it's way out of their budget. On the other hand Android phones appeal to anyone's budget from the broke ass to the wealthy hence you have entry level, mid range, flagship etc.. Anyone can get one depending on what they can afford. Andriod is extremely budget friendly. How can u then compare the quality of a premium Iphone to the average quality of a device (android) that's on a spectrum of quality and then spout the dim witted narrative that everything on the spectrum of quality is same and crap. That pov reeks of bias and doesn't make an iota of sense. If you really want to compare performance, compare performance of the higher end devices on android's spectrum to the premium iPhone as they are both around the same price range and quality and then see if you would still come to the obtuse nonsense you wrote up there.

Now read up. I use both iphone xs and vivo y12. I bought both phones brand new (I did that using device financing). I have changed the battery of the iphone, and the screen is cracked at the lower part. The vivo is not only strong and durable but i even upgraded it to android
11 without issues. And every other thing is working well.

So whats the fuss about ios and android anyway? Its all about choice though

A week later this Phone had screen issues out of the blue

She took it to the store she got it...

And they told her it wasn’t from their end...

Tragic.
