According to the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), more than 50, 000 Nigerian girls die annually from complications caused by unsafe abortions.

This was disclosed on Wednesday, November 4, 2015, by the National President of the NMA’s Committee on Girl Child Education, Chidi Esike.

Esike made the remarks during an awareness campaign organized by the Committee at Model Girls’ Secondary School, Ugwuachara, Ebonyi State.

“The theme of this particular project is Adolescence and the Education of the Girl Child-Negotiating the Mine Field,” Dr Esike said.

“We decided to interact with the students to create awareness of the major challenges facing them in their education through lectures and help them find best solutions that will make their education most effective,” he added.

Meanwhile, a charity organization, IPAS Nigeria, has urged policy makers to review the country’s abortion law in consideration of women who got impregnated through rape and incest.

The Jigawa State Government has disclosed that it has approved N100 million for the renovation of the presidential wing of its Government House, Dutse. Politics / Russian Plane Crash: UK Suspects Bomb Was Placed In Hold by tripledonosas(m): 7:17am On Nov 06, 2015
UK investigators looking at what caused a Russian airliner to crash in Egypt believe a bomb was put in the hold prior to take-off, the BBC has learned. The government decided terrorism was likely after receiving intelligence based on intercepted messages between militants in the Sinai peninsula. Britain suspended all flights to and from the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh on Wednesday. Britons are due to begin returning home on Friday, but only with hand luggage. The Metrojet Airbus A321 was flying from Sharm el-Sheikh to St Petersburg when it fell from the sky last Saturday, killing all 224 people on board. Most of the victims were Russian. Could Islamic State have bombed Flight 9268? Theories about causes Sinai Province: Egypt's most dangerous group BBC security correspondent Frank Gardner says that although British officials have not ruled out the possibility of a technical fault bringing the plane down, they think that is increasingly unlikely. Investigators in the UK's security service suspect someone with access to the aircraft's baggage compartment inserted an explosive device inside or on top of the luggage just before the plane took off, he adds. Sinai-based militants linked to the Islamic State (IS) group have claimed they destroyed the plane. IS has called for a war against both Russia and the US over their air strikes in Syria. US President Barack Obama told a CBS radio station on Thursday that he thought there was "a possibility" that there was a bomb on the downed jet. "We're taking that very seriously," he said. However, both Egypt and Russia have said it is too early to draw conclusions. Since Wednesday, several countries have joined Britain in restricting travel to Sharm-el-Sheikh. France and Belgium are advising their citizens against all but essential travel to the resort, and the Netherlands is warning against travelling via the resort's airport. German airline Lufthansa says its subsidiaries Edelweiss and Eurowings are halting flights to Sharm el-Sheikh (from Zurich and Duesseldorf respectively) as a "precautionary" measure, and return flights for customers already there will be arranged. Russian planes are still flying to and from the resort. "Theories about what happened and the causes of the incident can only be pronounced by the [official] investigation," Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for President Vladimir Putin, said. Egypt, which is highly dependent on tourism, has said Britain's decision to suspend flights is unjustified. Egypt's President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi, who has been on a visit to the UK, told reporters that security at the airport was tightened 10 months ago at the UK's request. However, he said he understood Britain's concern. Egypt is leading the investigation into the air disaster, with the help of Russian and other foreign experts.
Phones / Blackberry Launches Priv Smartphone Running Android by tripledonosas(m): 7:10am On Nov 06, 2015
BlackBerry has launched its first smartphone
running the Android operating system.
It is a new approach for the company which has
struggled to attract customers to its own
operating system, BB10.
BlackBerry said its new device, Priv, was designed
to offer customers improved security over rival
Android handsets.
"Coming with a device that tries to address
security on Android is a good idea, but may have
been better three years ago," said Francisco
Jeronimo, research director for industry analysts
IDC.
"It will be difficult to regain clients who have
already moved to other handsets, and it's quite
an expensive device."
The BBC's Rory Cellan-Jones went hands-on with
the Priv and asked the company if it was enough
to win back market share.
