More than two months after popular comedian, Bright Okpocha, AKA Basketmouth, was robbed in his home at Lekki, Lagos, the police have apprehended the suspects and paraded them before journalists at the Lagos State Police Command headquarters, Ikeja.

The leader of the three-man gang who attacked Basketmouth, 24-year-old Chibuzor Ugwu, explained that they simply stumbled on the comedian’s house during their robbery spree on September 7.

Ugwu, an Enugu State indigene living in Anambra State but came to Lagos regularly on the sole mission of carrying out robberies, explained that he was an internet fraudster for three years before he ventured into robbery.

He said, “Anytime I came to Lagos, I took my gang to vandalise vehicles and steal auto parts. We normally targetted Toyota and Honda vehicles.

“But the day we robbed Basketmouth’s house. We had operated on some vehicles in the area that day. We then peeped into a compound and saw a very nice car. When we gained access into the compound, we realised we could make more money by robbing the occupants of the house.

“We then used a bolt cutter to enter through the kitchen. It was when we entered the house that we realised that it was Basketmouth’s house. We saw the pictures of him and his family on the wall.”

According to Ugwu, who said he had done nothing else than internet fraud and robbery since he left secondary school, as soon as they saw Basketmouth, they believed they had hit the mother lode.

The suspect said he pointed a gun he was holding at the comedian and told him to cooperate.

He said they were shocked the comedian told them he had no cash at home.

Ugwu said, “We thought we were going to find millions of naira at the house. He was begging us not to hurt his family. He said he did not keep cash at home. But we told him to cooperate so that we would just operate peacefully and leave.

“We searched the whole apartment and found nothing. We only got a $200 note in his wallet along with the mobile phones in the house which he handed to us.

“Eventually we left with the little we could find, we were not ready to hurt him because it was clear he was telling the truth when we searched everywhere and found no money.”

He said the phones collected in Basketmouth’s house were sold to a friend he identified as Osama at the Computer Village in Ikeja.

Ugwu explained that he bought the gun he took to the operation for N80,000 in Benue State.

Saturday PUNCH leart that Ugwu entered the police net when he went to a police station to reclaim his vehicle that was impounded after he abandoned it on a road where it broke down at Ijeshatedo area of Lagos.

“I had abandoned the vehicle on the road for some days. When I went there to pick it, I was told the police had impounded it. When I went to the station to claim it, I did not know the police had previously arrested a friend of mine who knew about my robbery activities,” he said.

The friend he was talking about is 21-year-old Joseph Chimezie.

Chiemezie said he met Ugwu in Anambra State at a joint.

“He is fond of buying drinks for young men at the joint. I told him that anytime he was leaving for Lagos, he should take me along with him so I could find a job,” he said.

He said the day he eventually left for Lagos with him, a member of Ugwu’s gang took him to Ilasamaja and handed him a bag containing guns.

According to him, he was told to take the guns to a house but on the way, the police stopped him. When they searched the bag, they found guns and arrested him.

Chimezie said, “I don’t know about when they robbed Basketmouth. I did not follow them. I did not know that the police were looking for them.

“When they handed me the bag containing the guns, I was afraid and would have droppped it and run away but I knew nowhere in Ilasamaja. All I wanted was to make a better life for myself in Lagos.”

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, said the suspects would soon be charged to court.

Suspended lawmaker, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has defended former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who at a public lecture in Lagos on Wednesday November 23rd, described the National Assembly as a den of robbers. In this statement, Jibrin said Obasanjo's comment about members of the House is very true. He also took a swipe at the Chairman of the House Committee o Media and Publicity, who at a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday November 24th, described President Obasanjo as the grandfather of corruption. "When the whole country is commending former president Obasanjo for his characteristically blunt and honest statements on the National Assembly, only the shameless Speaker Dogara and his corrupt cabal in the House of Representatives can use their chief propagandist the naive, inexperience, corrupt and poorly trained chairman of the House media committee to make a fool of the House for the umpteenth times by throwing all sort of venoms yet failing flat to address the allegations with facts and figures.
It is a time many Nigerians expect that in the face of such glaring facts of budget fraud and massive corruption, the House under Speaker Dogara will at best keep quite, go into sober reflection, act decisively on allegations of budget fraud and internal corruption and commence implementing reforms urgently to sanitize the House and it's processes. But alas, the House will want to grand stand, to prove what? Even if Obasanjo did not speak out, he has severally anyway, do they think Nigerians are not aware of the dark story of the green chamber?
I wish to state categorically clear as a cognate member with a deep inside knowledge of the House having served as Chairman finance and Later Appropriation committee simultaneously that all what former president Obasanjo said is TRUE. It amazes me that only Speaker Dogara and his cohorts like Namdas seems not to realize that Nigerians are fully aware of the monumental budget fraud and corruption in the House.
It is also important to state clearly that the ill intended and fraudulent statements usually dished out by Namdas are not a representation of majority members of the House. I know for sure that severally members have expressed deep anger over statements released by Namdas purportedly on their name. The fact is that, the Speaker and his corrupt cabal usually dictates to Namdas what to say or write without seeking consensus of members. And in many of such instances they apologize after using the House as an institution to perpetrate the nonsense. This must stop!
Let me respond specifically to some of the assertions of Namdas in his response to former president Obasanjo
POWERS OF APPROPRIATION
Namdas gave the impression that because the House has powers of Appropriation no offense can be committed by it as far as the national budget is concern. This is FALSE! No one is contesting that the House has powers of Appropriation but what we are saying is that the powers have been used severally over the years to commit budget fraud running into billions.
I as a former Chairman of the two most important committees as far as appropriation matters are concern is saying the House under Speaker Dogara has used her powers of appropriation to commit budget fraud never seen in the history of the National Assembly. I have released to the public instances of such budget fraud.
I have provided sufficient evidence to the security and anti graft agencies and I have indicated my readiness to stand as witness in case of prosecution. The assertion that since the budget has been signed no offense could have been committed or impossible to carry out prosecution Is also mischievous and wicked.
All they are trying to do in their usual style is to blackmail the executive arm to take responsibility for what is an obvious offense committed by Speaker Dogara, Lasun, Doguwa, Ogor and few others. On constituency projects, the mess there is just too much. All the anti graft agencies need to do is to go and investigate only the 2015 SDG projects where about 10 billion naira was budgeted and see where that will lead them. It has remain a huge scandal in the House but no body will talk because it is a system of "chop clean mouth"

INSUFFICIENT ALLOCATION TO NASS
Namdas lacked the institutional knowledge to comment on issues like this. What does he know about allocations to the House? Statutory allocations to NASS rose from about 40 billion in 2006 to 150 billion in 2011 and 120biliion in 2015 then 115 billion naira in 2016. The problem is not that the money is insufficient to run the entire activities of NASS and even more but the truth of the matter is that about half the money is stolen in the name of running cost through an extremely and stinkingly fraudulent system designed by Speaker Dogara in collusion with some private entities when he was Chairman House services committee in the 6th Assembly. He remained the custodian and supervisor of the scam again as chairman House services in the 7th Assembly and yet again wrath it up as Speaker in the 8th Assembly.
The NASS has received about 1 thrillion naira since 2006 and about 500 billion naira has gone DIRECTLY into private pockets through the fraud called running cost. I have received briefing from my lawyers in london that such scams equals a crime against humanity and there are laws in America and Europe that allows the FBI and INTERPOL to deal with such cases at the international level so that the culprits who created the scam can be prosecuted.
Even after stealing about half the allocation, the spending of the remaining balance is done in secrecy. No member have access to copies of the internal budget of the House to see how the remaining money is spent after deducting the fraudulent running cost.
How much is being spent on the institutions like NILS and NABRO? And how much is paid as salaries to general staff? How much is paid to legislative aides most of who are ghost staff? Yes ghost staff! How much is spent on public hearings? Namdas should release the figures if he wants to be taken serious.
Even the construction of permanent site of NILS which should be from NASS allocation only is part funded under capital supplementation in the service wide vote! As Chairman Finance, I have had instances where I gave money to NABRO from my pocket because they are so badly funded. What nonsense is Namdas talking about? The House should be ashamed of itself that it knows details of budget of the executive arm including wage bill but it cannot simply let the world know the details of its own budget. What a fraud! What a shame!! Yet you have the guts to address the press and throw abuses!
RUNNING COST ALLOWANCES
I stand by my statement that each member collects about 10million naira monthly and between 10 to 20 million naira was collected in the past. Namdas would have made matter easy for the entire country and the anti corruption agencies by simply telling us how much each member earns including such random millions of naira that we are just asked to give account numbers and the next thing you see alerts!
o body is saying the members do not need running cost for their offices, what we are saying is that the amount is diverted directly into private pockets. More so, the amount is too much compare to the level of productivity and our economic reality.

Yes Chief Executives of government parastatals buy tickets and get allowances for accommodation on official assignments but the case against the House which Namdas did not address is that such money in the case of the House are diverted into private use. To further prove my case, iam calling on the DSS, Police, EFCC and ICPC to arrest Hon Abdulrazak Namdas and ask him to produce his running cost statement of account.
The whole country will freeze with the discovery! Let's see if he can continue to address press conferences and insult the sensitivity of Nigerians.

Nigerian billionaire, Jimoh Ibrahim has blasted gubernatorial candidate of the Alliance for Democracy, Olusola Oke whom he accused of acute desperation to rule Ondo State as governor. It would be recalled that Mr. Oke was the gubernatorial candidate of the PDP in Ondo in 2012 from where he later decamped to the All Progressives Congress after the loss of former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan in 2015. After losing the primary of the APC in September 3 when he came third, he defected to the Action Alliance and then Alliance for Democracy reportedly on the order of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos.
Prior to Oke’s defection, the public were shocked as a banner of him contesting for governor under the banner of the All Progressive Grand Alliance surfaced. Jimoh yesterday took to his Twitter page to lament of the high rate of desperation of Oke which he likened to the antics of the outgoing governor, Olusegun Mimiko.
He said "Olusola Oke has set a new level for desperation.This is exactly how Mimiko started jumping from one party to another. How did that turn out?"
Meanwhile, an earlier tweet by Jimoh prior to the popular Channels TV Ondo gubernatorial debate shows he may be endorsing the APC gubernatorial candidate, Rotimi Akeredolu ahead of the Saturday poll.

The Nigerian Army has reacted to the report by Amnesty International that they killed 150 Indigenous People of Biafra protesters between August 2015 to August 2016. According to a statement by the Acting Director Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman, the report is unfounded and an outright attempt to tarnish the reputation of the security forces in general and the Nigerian Army in particular. Read the statement below...


The attention of the Nigerian Army has been drawn to a planned release of a report by Amnesty International on an unfounded storyline of mass killings of MASSOB/IPOB protesters by the military between August 2015 and August 2016. We wish to debunk the insinuation that our troops perpetrated the killing of defenceless agitators. This is an outright attempt to tarnish the reputation of the security forces in general and the Nigerian Army in particular, for whatever inexplicable parochial reasons. For umpteenth times, the Nigerian Army has informed the public about the heinous intent of this Non-Governmental Organisation which is never relenting in dabbling into our national security in manners that obliterate objectivity, fairness and simple logic. The evidence of MASSOB/IPOB violent secessionist agitations is widely known across the national and international domains. Their modus operandi has continued to relish violence that threatens national security. Indeed between August 2015 and August 2016, the groups’ violent protests have manifested unimaginable atrocities to unhinge the reign of peace, security and stability in several parts of the South East Nigeria. A number of persons from the settler communities that hailed from other parts of the Country were selected for attack, killed and burnt. Such reign of hate, terror and ethno-religious controversies that portend grave consequences for national security have been averted severally through the responsiveness of the Nigerian Army and members of the security agencies. These security agencies are always targeted for attack by the MASSOB/IPOB instruments of barbarism and cruelty. For instance, in the protests of 30 – 31 May 2016, more than 5 personnel of the Nigeria Police were killed, while several soldiers were wounded, Nigeria Police vehicles were burnt down same as several others of the Nigerian Army that were vandalized. The strategic Niger Bridge at Onitsha came under threat thus leading to disruption of socio-economic activities. In the aftermath of the encounter that ensued between security agencies and MASSOB/IPOB militants many of own troops sustained varying degrees of injury. In addition, the MASSOB/IPOB recurrent use of firearms, crude weapons as well as other cocktails such as acid and dynamites to cause mayhem remain a huge security threat across the Region. In these circumstances, the Nigerian Army under its constitutional mandates for Military Aid to Civil Authority (MACA) and Military Aid to Civil Powers (MACP) has continued to act responsively in synergy with other security agencies to de-escalate the series of MASSOB/IPOB violent protests. Instructively, the military and other security agencies exercised maximum restraints despite the flurry of provocative and unjustifiable violence, which MASSOB/IPOB perpetrated. The adherence to Rules of Engagement by the military has been sacrosanct in all of these incidents. Therefore, it is rather unfortunate for the Amnesty International to allow itself to be lured into this cheap and unpopular venture that aims to discredit the undeniable professionalism as well as responsiveness of the Nigerian Army in the discharge of its constitutional roles. pastor, Adekunle Francis, has been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command at Ipamesan, Sango Ota, for allegedly molesting a 17-year-old girl, Dolapo.

The suspect, who was arrested on Tuesday, November 22, 2016, was said to have lured the girl into an uncompleted building under the pretext of praying for and anointing her.
As soon as they entered the uncompleted building, the pastor was said to have turned on the girl and raped her.


The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the victim later reported her ordeal at the Sango Police Station, adding that the Divisional Police Officer, Akinsola Ogunwale, immediately dispatched a team of detectives to the scene where the suspect was promptly arrested.

He said, “On interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime. He told policemen at the Sango Police Division that the act was the work of the devil.”

Oyeyemi, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, said the state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, had ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Abeokuta, for further investigation.
