Can you help me find a seller for a cat? I'd like to buy one please. I'm in Lagos thanks

I have a cat to sell. It's a kitten that's almost 8 months old. I stay alone so I am not always around to care for it adequately. He's also lonely. He's in good health and very friendly.

I am in Lagos.

Sorry about your experience.

I'll suggest that you leave your number visible on your profile so that anyone dealing with you can go and cross-check if it's the same number on your profile they're chatting with.

This camouflaging of numbers with web links is what gives opportunity to scammers to lie and manipulate inexperienced people into thinking they're dealing with you. The inexperienced people have no way of telling if it's true, and not everyone is smart enough or will always know that you're Yoruba.

Whoever wants to deal with you can go to your profile and copy your number and contact you. So it's best to stop giving the demonic scammers opportunity to run man in the middle scams by hiding your number from public view.

Note that the number on your profile is not accessible anywhere else on nl, including via search.

This is just my 1 satoshi. But do what you think is best.

Cheers

The numbers used to be visible until Nairaland decided to void whatsapp links that show your number. Hiding numbers is not on purpose and the links help to direct intending customers to my WhatsApp without stress.

Hello bros please can you pay me back my money...

I don't know yet buh it seems he is about to scam me...

No accusations Yet till its been confirmed..

I would give you guys update...

@Tshege please Refund me back I am not interested in the Transactions again...

On this allegation, I contacted @garripack to know why he posted this when I have NEVER done transaction with him. On a call with him, he told me that someone contacted him after I quoted him saying he was me. I asked him which name he sent money to and he replied that he sent money to a chibuike ugochukwu.

I told him he could see my WhatsApp link in my signature and why did he not click the link. Garripack gave some excuse as to why he didn't do that. I also mentioned that my moniker is a clue to my real name which has yoruba origins. Why would he send money to a ugochukwu when my moniker is Tshege?

He said he has the phone number and full name and bvn of the person he sent money to. I asked him to send the full name and bvn to me so I can post the information here on Nairaland and he refused vehemently. Nothing would make him reveal the name of the scammer to me. He told me he would do an investigation and give the Ugochukwu benefit of doubt for 3 days since 26th June before exposing him. Garripack hasn't done that till now.

I also asked garripack to come here and clear the air on his misleading allegations against me and tell the full story behind the purported scam post he made. He has not done that.

Fast-forward to 2nd July, garripack texted me and told me the name of the scammer is @totit. I searched the moniker on Nairaland and went through his posts. Apparently, someone had accused totit of scamming him and posted his details which was similar to what garripack told me on the call I has with him.
I have copied the details of the scammer and will post below:
Ogochukwu Chibuike Ukawuba

BVN used to register account: 22182335352
Naira account
Account number: 7811411938
Bank: Wema bank (AlatbyWema)
Account Name: Ukawuba Ogochukwu

Name: OGOCHUKWU CHIBUIKE UKAWUBA
Account number: 0083110176
Bank sterling
Verified BVN: 22182335352

I suspect that @totit is a victim of impersonation on Nairaland as I am also. However, the matter troubling me is why @garripack would not expose the scammer here.
Why would he not click on my WhatsApp link after I asked him to?
Why would he refuse to give me the details of the scammer so I can post it here?
Why would garripack not clear the air after accusing me of wanting to scam him?

All these questions beg answers and after contacting garripack to come do the exposé himself, which he refused to do. I have taken it upon myself to set the record straight concerning this matter.

There are certain individuals who want to use my name for clout or or scam. If you are scammed by an impersonator, that's on you because my WhatsApp link doesn't change and my number is now there for you to call me or add on whatsapp.

Apparently someone is impersonating me here...
If you want to deal with me, send a message by clicking my Whatsapp link in my signature. Don't play yourself.

And if you want to purchase anything from me, quote me and request that I do the same... Don't believe anyone telling you he quoted you before.

I also don't collect payment before any deal. I prefer you use escrow..

I am not also in the business of escrow service

And I am Yoruba.. my name is Olusegun as seen on my moniker.... Y

I don't know you but some if not most of your suggestions are very solid. I don't know how to get Seun to effect some proactive changes on here...

Or @Seun can unbundle the business section and make it much more transparent and safe for users. Millions of naira have been lost on the Business Section alone and @seun is ethically obligated to make this platform safe for its users.

LandMann:

The issue is made worse when there's a mod who isn't actively monitoring things here and who takes sides with those who have gained popularity but could have monopolistic and malicious tendencies as well.

If this place wants to be cleaned up, seun should make it mandatory for those commenting on or accessing this thread to submit further identity verification documents like their government issued identity cards, phone numbers and proof of address via bank statements.

But this would require significant amount of coding and he wouldn't want to since users won't be paying for the service.

Alternatively, a deadline should be given for those who want to do escrow on this thread to get their business license and undergo verification. After the deadline, the old list can be scrapped and the new one put up, filled with those who pass through the verification which must include proper kyc and document verification by different mods to avoid one corrupting the process.

The verified escrows can charge for their service and they too must pay a certain agreeable and feasible sum to seun to remain listed as an escrow.

Everyone trading would then be advised to go through such escrows to avoid being scammed and a constant reminder should be placed to that effect when a person is commenting like on the Islam thread where you have to accept Allah before you comment... Anything to repeatedly remind users to go through escrow should be done.

Lastly, only verified scams should be posted here and on the scam thread with details of the scammer and clear evidence.

False accusations based on suspicion should be totally banned as it's against rules 2, 3 and 8 and it can be used by any malicious character to unjustly promote or defame others. Think Dangote dirty business tactics to maintain his monopoly.

I feel that if all the stringent measures above are improved and put in place, scamming here will fall by 95% or more.

Bigfish968l:
Advice on how to prevent fraud in gift card transactions

First of all, I would like to reiterate that I am a gift card merchant from China and have 5 years of experience in gift card trading.
There is a huge market for gift cards (I only buy from the proper source), and if you find the right buyer or seller, you can make a decent profit, enough to feed your family.

But as anyone who has ever been through the gift card trade knows, it's a business where the rules of the market are incomplete, where there are dirty frauds, and where there are plenty of rippers.

And how to avoid the Ripper in the process of trading?

Honestly, in the course of 5 years of trading, I have also experienced a lot of cheating (Ripper is not just targeting one country, but all people, including the Chinese themselves).

One of the hallmarks of the Ripper, in my experience, is that it evokes greed.

Think about it, the last time you met the Ripper, was it because he was offering you a higher price than everyone around him, sometimes a lot more, and when you saw him offering you a higher price, did you feel moved?

Yeah, when you're greedy, you've given the Ripper a chance to take advantage of it.

For example: I have a very good friend in Nigeria (I'm using YH instead to protect his privacy). How did we become such good friends?
One day, when YH finished a deal with me, he said to me, "Bro, I am in great pain". I asked, "What is the reason for your pain?" "In the course of the transaction, I was swindled out of $2,000," YH said.

I didn't ask anything, I just asked him for a quotation from the other side, and when he sent it to me, I only took a look at it and knew why he had been cheated. Because in that quotation, the price is 10%-20% higher than the normal price, the other party is grasping his greedy desire, he is cheated only a matter of time.

Therefore, in the process of trading, it is very important to restrain your greed.

Because no a commodity (of course the gift card is a kind of goods) has its value, when its value exceeds the original value, it is not normal, so when someone give you a quotation is very high, you should not feel happy, and should feel fear, because the ripper has lift the butcher's knife, ready to put you apart.

Because of the time reason, today wrote here, if you like, please leave a message below, behind will continue to update, let us fight those cheats together, let them have no space to live.

Of course, if you have any problems with the transaction, you can contact me privately.

My contact information is WhatsApp: +86 198 62387508

Gift Card Trading,I only deal with people who buy gift cards through legitimate channels, not illegal transactions,

Always, Always, Always insist on escrow. Most scammers would run at that request. Others would run when you create the escrow group with a reliable escrow. I wish that Seun and the Nairaland mods would take up the gauntlet and verify reliable people as escrows. Last year, I volunteered to Dominique to subject myself to the most rigorous background checks possible so that I can provide free escrow services to people here. I was turned down. There is probably a good reason for that but for old-timers like us, it's sad to see our people get scammed daily.

I hope it gets better.
Seun is the quintessential Nigerian who believes that you don't fix what's not broken. He needs to add more features and tailor this website to the needs of each section.

What's stopping Nairaland from becoming like Reddit? Or more like a centralised Craigslist with mods?

This website is a blessing to Nigerians but it's due for way more features and development.
