CONTROVERSY IN YABATECH!!! According to stories heard from different sources, Oluwabukola Charity Dazan (RIP) died on the 11th of February 2016 in Yabatech. Fellow students and course mates got information that her death was caused by nonchalancy on the part of the school medical authorities and FMC Ebute-meta. This motivated the students to start a protest which became rather violent and lead to destruction and vandalization of the school medical centre and the ambulance that was used to convey the corpse. It got even worse to the point that students attempted to harass the rector; Dr. Mrs Kudirat Ladipo aka anty Kudi. Dazan's death was used as an advantage for the students to make a long list of requests that the school management must provide including hostel renovation and a 2week mourning break for the deceased. Eventually the school authority issued a 4week break to all students and asked everyone to vacate their hostels. The school is currently a NO GO area for students! Due to this unfortunate incident, rumour has it that there are speculations that the hostels might not be reopened till the next session and that the school management will place a compulsory 20,000 naira levy on every student (both full-time and part-time) for damages incurred during the protest and not complying could affect a candidate’s exams and results. Personally, i think that decision is ridiculous considering the fact that not all students played a part in this event. Some were even ignoramous about the whole issue. Not everybody took part in this protest why should everyone then pay the price for the damages That ain't right!!!Moreover 20,000 naira is too much. Haba! If the management is thinking of pulling such stunt, i advice that they carefully rethink it. If not, they could just be requesting for another protest and this time it could be the admin block that will suffer it or what do y'all think ....... |
