ANDROID VERSION 6 -MARSHMALLOW Android M is now officially called Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Android M was unveiled during Google's annual I/O conference last May and is expected to become publicly available this fall. The next major Android version will be trying to optimize the performance even further by lowering the RAM usage, improving the standby and overall battery endurance. Android M will also introduce native support for fingerprint sensors and security authentications. An official app permission manager is coming too, as well as support for USB Type-C connectors and capability for charging other devices. Android 6.0 Marshmallow new Developer's Preview is now available on Nexus 5, 6, 9 and the Nexus Player. The preview will be the last one before the RTM version. The official SDK is live as well. The devs can now upload their Android 6.0 compatible apps to the Play Store. Marshmallow should make it first on the Nexus devices this fall. |

XDA members found a way to side-load Google Play services on Windows 10 Mobile XDA Developers forum managed to side-load the entire Google Play Services package, including the Play Store, on to a number of Windows 10 Mobile- powered Lumia smartphones. At first the process wasn't easy, but after a few days it's now much easier to do it by yourself. In case you are interested in doing so, you should visit the XDA thread. Currently the compatible smartphones include Lumia 435, 635 with 1GB RAM, 730, 820, 830, 920, 925, 928, Icon, 930, and Lumia 1520. Those should run on Windows 10 Mobile. Note that this may brick your device and void your warranty, so it's recommended to be familiar what exactly you'll be doing. Last spring Microsoft confirmed Android and iOS app compatibility for Windows 10 Mobile, but it wasn't supposed to be as easy as installing the entire Google framework. But who knows, maybe everyone should be able to install Android (or iOS) apps after some future Microsoft update. Apparently Microsoft is open to anything these days. Source : wmpoweruser

Samsung and Google promise monthly security updates from now on Recently a pretty nasty vulnerability in Android was discovered. It's being called Stagefright, and it affects versions 2.2 Froyo and newer of the OS. There is a fix, and thankfully it's now starting to be deployed through over-the-air updates by different manufacturers and carriers. But to ensure a more swift response to future situations of this nature, two companies that are very important to the Android ecosystem have announced some similar measures today. Let's start with Google, the developer of Android and the company in charge of software updates for the Nexus line. It has unveiled that, going forward, it will release monthly security updates for the Nexus devices, in addition to the usual platform updates. The first such security patch is in fact rolling out right now to the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 7, Nexus 9, Nexus 10, and Nexus Player, fixing the aforementioned Stagefright exploit. According to Google, Nexus devices receive security updates "for the longer of three years from initial availability or 18 months from last sale of the device via the Google Store". At the same time, Samsung, the biggest Android device maker, has committed to implementing a new security update process for its products. This will fast track patches when new vulnerabilities are uncovered. The updates will come to Samsung devices over-the-air "regularly about once per month". The Korean company is already doing some fast tracking in issuing a patch for the Stagefright bug, but it "plans to further develop this process and implement it as a timely security update practice".
