school business is a big cash in stuff? lol. I swear you have no idea what you're saying, trust me
I laugh too. Do you know that poverty pushed some proprietors into the business? They don't have the basic ideas and principles of what should be in place before the start-up, No solid plans, all was for them to rent kne or two room(s), start a school and EXPECT BIG CASH.

ocelot2006:
Correction: not all schools were writing exams. Some had about a week or 2 before exams. As a result of the lockdown in some states, most schools had to RUSH their exams so as to ensure that the children had to get home on time to their parents. So how did you expect the schools to get their fees, especially during national and global health crisis?

Again I'll say this. Teachers and staff should've gotten their full salaries for the month of March. BUT expecting schools to pay full salaries for April and May?? Haba! At that point, you should be talking of palliatives, not demanding salaries.
Teachers supposed get full salaries for the month of March and April. Money enters during test and exam. All Nigerian schools have written test before the lock down, some were writing exam, while some were preparing to write. Sir, at these periods in the school calendar, good administrator would have collected 80 - 90% of the necessary fees.

There problem is that most of the proprietors were poor before entering the business hence, they could not have a standard for their school at the beginning.

Oga, forget the scam from the proprietors, I worked in 5 different private schools for 8 years before I changed my work. There is money in school business EXCEPT you are stinkingly poor before you started yours.

You are correct. I am a private school teacher, although I do not plan on going back after this lockdown is over.

I am in charge of a class of about 55 students and 45 of them had fully paid their school fees before the lockdown. Many of the rest have paid large chunks of their fees.

Let me state that the school fees paid in my class alone for one term is enough to pay my salaries for almost two years.

I have been teaching for about two years and have been studying how things are done and thus have concluded that the proprietors are not telling the truth about the profitability of this business.

I know how much my school is making and how much the expenses and running costs per term is, and yet my proprietor will keep complaining about parents not paying up as reasons for not paying our salaries on time, even though I know that up to 90 percent have paid.
My brother, I really feel for you. God will make ways for us.

Until u start a private school , you will know how he be... most students/pupils would not pay until exam and even if some go pay, na 30%, dem go dey beg make dem allow their wards do exam.. some parents self fit take their children away from the school in the following term and going to another when the debt accumulated is too much.... except super standard private school oo, but an average private school in naija na doom.. it's not the fault of the proprietors all the time.. they pay mostly on what they earn..
You may be right sir, but the salaries these people pay their staff is nothing compare to what they collect from their customers, most especially a school writing external examination.

DesChyko:
You are welcome to disagree 'totally'. I was merely addressing the '96% claim' made by the OP in the payment of school fees, using my experience in a number of schools over some years in my locality, not the 'wickedness' of proprietors.
Sir/ma, I can say the inability to collect up to 90% fees by the school/proprietors in your locality shows the incompetent level of the school managers. Besides, you have said something about "family" in your opinion. With that alone, money may not enter as expected, but i tell you, these people lie alot, school business is a big cash in stuff.
Another thing is that the money used for salaries by these proprietors is very small compare to what they collect from their customers.
EducationRe: How Private School Owners Are Dubiously Cheating Their Teachers by Vanpascore(m): 3:02pm On Jul 17, 2020
DesChyko:
I'm a private school teacher. And I think your analysis above is flawed. This certainly doesn't work for most private schools in Nigeria. At least, not for where I work. Since most private schools are patronized by families that live on somewhere below the middle class income range, I think I have a pretty good idea how they make their payments.

Some parents pay early on. Some pay after the first fee drive. Some pay in parts when they get salaries. Some pay whenever those sponsoring the child's education send the money. Some wait until exam time to pay. And some will still not pay that term. And the school will still consider some pleas too. So 96% is a really unrealistic number. I'ld go with 50% at most.

What you should insist on instead is the school management seeking other possible ways to ensure their staff get paid.
Oga, i disagree totally with your opinion. These so called proprietors are just wicked. Most of the schools were writing exam before the lockdown, meaning that, payments already made. Besides, they collected for the whole term, Jan - April, but they decided to stop salary at Feb/March haba!!

The questions now are:

i. Won't they collect the money from parents, if they've not done so?
ii. Will they pay their staff the outstanding money after resumption?
iii. What have they been using the previous monies they collected for?

In conclusion, they are not to be blamed but our government that failed to formulate policies and follow up.

folks4luv:
Public and private schools in Oyo state have resumed academic activities after a prolonged break due to the spread of the Coronavirus.

Schools at all levels have been on a compulsory break as directed by the Federal Government.

The lockdown was a part of the efforts of the government to curb the spread of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

However, the Oyo state governor, Governor Rotimi Makinde had announced the schools in Oyo state will be reopened to resume academic activities, a move that was criticized by the chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha.

Although the planned resumption in Oyo state was delayed for another week to enable the government to put some safety measures in place, schools have finally resumed today. See photos below

OfoIgbo:
For your information, it is both the SE and SS states (except the ABOKI-nized Edo state) that are doing well. Cross River state doesn't even have any Covid-19 case. The same goes for Kogi.

I am currently in Anambra, which is just as well because I don't wanna be infected by the less intelligent people in the north and the west.

So far, Yorubas and Fulanis are the major careers of this virus. The smart Igbos and SS people are showing great intelligence by instituting policies that are helping their people, and the higher IQs in these places, as showcased by WAEC and JAMB results, is beginning to prove useful.

Sharapp there. How many of the Abians will travel out of the country and still come back to sleep in Abia? Nooo, they will rather buy house in Lagos

The less intelligent leaders of the Yoruba states and their Fulani counterparts are displaying their ignorance to the world.
Anambra state, which has the most traveled people in the whole continent of Africa, only has one case. Now that is one huge intelligence grin grin grin
