Although, there are usually arguments and fights when couples marry out of their tribes; they are bound to face and experience enmity from their partners’ families. Despite all these, couples still find a way of sealing the gap between the torn families with their love. Yoruba and Igbo are two major tribes in Nigeria. Both are powerful and represent a large portion of the population. There is an interaction between them just like with any other tribe in Nigeria, However, when the issue of marriage comes into play they handle it with sentiments. There are certain qualities possessed by ladies who are Igbo. Just like each tribe has its own peculiarities, there are some things that are synonymous to Igbo women. They are basically important things one has to know before marrying an Igbo woman. This would help the relationship to thrive well and would help them reduce the chances of getting divorced. Yoruba men who fall in love with Igbo ladies must have seen some of these traits and qualities in the women before deciding to marry them. They know the battle they have to fight with that desire of theirs yet they are not discouraged. As liberal as a family could be, the members would always express their desire for their sons and daughters to marry within the clan or tribe. They would only accept the proposal in order not to ruin the happiness of their children. Find below some of the reasons why Yoruba men marry Igbo ladies: 1. Igbo women are home builders It would be nice for us not to be sentimental when considering this issue. Igbo women are extremely dedicated in marriage. Now there would always be a few stray ones like we have in other tribes too; but when it comes to the effort they put into marriages, those ladies are quite commendable. Marriage means a great deal to them and divorce is a word they do not really entertain. Yoruba men go for them because they see the prospects in them. 2. They are excellent cooks There are a number of leaves and vegetables that are being made into soups by the Igbo ladies. Most of them know how to cook and would feed a man until he cannot eat any longer. Yoruba men know that they would taste different types of vegetables when they are married to Igbo ladies. we all know the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. 3. Love knows no tribe Some Yoruba men end up marrying Igbo ladies not because they had it planned out but because love happened. Love knows no tribe. At this point, they have no control over the person their hearts choose. Not giving in to love may subject them to a lifetime of unhappiness at the long run. Moreover, they do not marry these ladies by force, there is usually a strong mutual consent by the parties involved as it is essential for them to work as a unit in order to gain the support of their family members. 4. They are accommodating: Igbo people love having a full house; it is not strange finding uncles, aunties, nephews, cousins and distant relations spending holiday with them. Although they chat a lot, they enjoy good company. There are bad eggs among them too who have little or no tolerance for people. Yoruba men know that marrying Igbo ladies who are well cultured and behaved will help them keep their family members together. Over time, the family members may start to see the good in them and love them too. 5. They belong to one Nigeria Sometimes, men do not pay attention to tribal issues and condescending statements that may bring a tribe down. As far as they are concerned, the Igbo ladies are Nigerians like them too. For this reason, a Yoruba man could decide to choose his life partner from that tribe and live with her for the rest of his life. After all, marrying outside one’s tribe is not an offence that is punishable under law. As a matter of fact, it promotes cultural integration and helps the people of the country to bond better. It is interesting to know that there are people who think like this among us. http://pullgist.com/interesting-igbo-men-here-are-5-reasons-why-yoruba-men-marry-igbo-ladies-no-2-and-4-will-shock-you/

We’re all familiar with mirrors—we look into them every day. But mirrors aren’t just for checking your appearance or looking for cars behind you when you’re driving. There are some crazy things mirrors can do, including keeping wormholes stable enough to travel through time. Mirrors and phantom limbs can help us learn about the brain, and mirrors can also allow us to measure the distance to the Moon. Here are the craziest things about mirrors. 10 Mirrors And Time TravelWe all know that you can travel through time in a wormhole, right? The only trouble is that wormholes have a tendency to collapse, which prevents anything from passing through them. However, help is at hand, with a simple pair of mirrors. All you need is two uncharged mirrors (or metallic plates) in a vacuum, placed a few micrometers apart—make sure there is no external electromagnetic field. Now comes the Casimir effect, which is a physical force arising from a quantized field between the two mirrors. This quantum electrodynamic force produces a mass-negative region of space-time between the mirrors, which could stabilize a wormhole, and allow faster-than-light travel. Theoretically, you could travel to the past, but not the future—so you couldn’t get next week’s winning lotto numbers, unfortunately. Another fly in the ointment is that the stable wormholes produced by the mirrors are infinitesimally small, so don’t plan a holiday to visit your ancient ancestors just yet. 9 Mirrors, Phantom Limbs, And The Human Brain: Neuroscientists are a wacky bunch, but, amazingly, experiments using mirrors on patients with phantom limbs have allowed researchers to learn a lot about how the brain works. Using a “smoke and mirrors” style optical illusion, researchers placed mirrors vertically on a table, and used them to reflected the patient’s intact limb—say a hand. This effectively superimposed the reflection of the intact hand onto the side of the phantom limb, so that—to the patient—it looked like they had both hands. Weirdly, when the intact hand was moved, the patient felt the same movement in the phantom hand—even if the hand had been missing, and no movement had been felt for more than 10 years. When the intact hand was touched, the patient also felt the sensation in the phantom limb. By repeating the procedure several times, some patients felt their phantom limb disappear. Scientists think this effect is due to the plasticity in the brain, and the way it creates new neural pathways after losing a limb. They also think that there is a strong connection between vision and touch in the brain. 8 Mirrors Cause Hallucinations: A strange illusion is conjured up when you stare at your reflection in a mirror. It’s an old Halloween trick that modern science is starting to investigate. Try it for yourself. Sit in a darkened room, about a meter (3 ft) away from a mirror, and gaze at the reflection of your face for about 10 minutes. Keep the lighting as dark as you can, while still being able to see your reflection. At first, you will find that there are small distortions in your face in the mirror. Then, gradually, after several minutes, your face will begin to change more dramatically, and look more like a waxwork, like the face doesn’t belong to you. Some people see a series of other faces, or even fantastical monsters or beings staring back, and others see animal faces. It is a dissociative state that scientists are studying, in order to try and understand our sense of self and identity. Psychologists believe it could even help patients with schizophrenia, when they are encouraged to confront their “other selves.” 7 Can Everyone Recognize Themselves In A Mirror? Most of us take it for granted that we will recognize ourselves in a mirror. Yet, it seems that not everyone can pass the mirror mark test for self-recognition. Scientists use a method of marking the face or body, then observing what the subject does in front of a mirror, to test for signs that they recognize themselves and try to rub off the mark. Children usually develop mirror self-recognition by 24 months of age. However, when researchers tested non-Western children—in countries like Fiji and Kenya—these children failed to pass the test even at six years of age. But this is not a sign that they lack the ability to separate themselves psychologically from other humans. Rather, it is a cultural difference in the use of mirrors, and a problem with the effectiveness of the mirror test. These children showed freezing behavior when confronted with their own reflection, indicating that they did understand that the reflection was themselves, not somebody else. 6 Animals That Have Mirror Self-Recognition Just as many humans do not pass the current mirror self-recognition test, many animals fail it too. Could that mean that certain animals are able to pass a different test for recognizing their own reflection? Some researchers think so. For example, some elephants failed the marking method for mirror self-recognition, but showed obvious self-recognition behaviors, such as repetitive movements that showed a connection to their reflection. Perhaps some animals are simply not bothered about having marks on them, and therefore don’t react.Gorillas also failed the test, and were thought not to have mirror self-recognition. However, gorillas are easily embarrassed—eye contact is very important in gorilla societies—and after looking at their reflection, they tend to go off somewhere private to remove the marks they saw in the mirror. They are now accepted as having mirror self-recognition. The arguments are flying as to the effectiveness of the marking method, and it could be that many other species are much more self-aware than we give them credit for. Animals that pass the traditional mirror self-recognition test include chimpanzees, orangutans, bonobos, gorillas, elephants, bottlenose dolphins, killer whales, and European magpies. 5 Mirrors On The Moon The Moon is, on average, 384,403 kilometers (238,857 mi) away from us on Earth. We know this so accurately thanks to mirrors. The distance to the moon varies, because of its elliptical orbit around the Earth. At its closest, known as perigee, it is only 363,104 kilometers (225,622 mi) away. At apogee, the most distant, it is 406,696 kilometers (252,277 mil) away from us.The Laser Ranging Retroreflector was left on the Moon by Apollo astronauts, and is used to calculate the distance from the Earth to the Moon. It is essentially a series of corner-cube reflectors—a special type of mirror—which reflect a laser beam back in the direction it came from. These laser beams are aimed at the Moon from large telescopes on Earth, and their reflected light allows scientists to calculate the distance to the Moon with an accuracy of up to just 3 centimeters (1.2 in). Not only can the Laser Ranging Retroreflector measure the distance from the Earth to the Moon, but it has improved our knowledge of the Moon. For example, it has provided information about the Moon’s orbit, and we now know that it is receding from Earth at about 3.8 centimeters (1.5 in) per year. These measurements have even been used to test Einstein’s theory of relativity. 4 Mirrors Can Also Reflect Sound Mirrors are not just for gazing at your reflection. Mirrors can actually reflect sound as well as light. Mirrors that reflect sound waves are known as “acoustic mirrors,” and were used in Britain during World War II to detect certain sound waves coming from enemy aircraft. This was before the development of radar. Several were built around the coast of Britain, and are still standing today—the most famous ones are at Denge, near Dungeness, Kent. There is no public access to them, but they can be seen on a special guided walk. The only sound mirror outside of Britain is also one of the biggest: the 61 meter (200 ft) sound mirror in Maghtab, Malta. It is known locally as “il widna,” which means “the ear.” It is a well-known secret, and there is no public access to it. 3 Reflecting Matter With Mirrors:Amazingly, mirrors can also reflect matter. Such mirrors are known in physics as “atomic mirrors.” An atomic mirror reflects atoms of matter just as a conventional mirror reflects light. They use electromagnetic fields to reflect neutral atoms, although some just use silicon water. The reflection from an atomic mirror is essentially a quantum reflection of a wave of matter, and works for reflecting neutral atoms that are moving slowly. These atoms are basically repelled from the surface of the mirror. This can be used to trap slow atoms, or to focus an atomic beam. Atomic mirrors work better if they are ridged, because of the larger wavelengths of matter compared to minute photons of light. 2 True Mirrors:It’s actually a myth that a mirror reverses your image—your reflection is not flipped. What you see is the left-hand side of your face on the left of the mirror, and the right-hand side on the right, giving the illusion that your reflection is reversed. However, a non-reversing mirror, or “true mirror,” was developed. It allowed the user to see their reflection as others saw them—primarily for applying cosmetics. It’s easy to make a true mirror yourself—simply position two conventional mirrors at 90 degree angles, and look at your reflection from the join. A true mirror gives you a 3-D reflection, which moves as you do, rather than giving you the flattish image you get in an ordinary mirror. It allows you to see yourself as the world sees you. Try it if you dare. 1 Splitting Light With A Mirror: Mirrors can not only reflect light, sound, and matter, but they can also split light beams. Many beam splitters use mirrors, and are commonly used in many scientific instruments, including telescopes. A basic beam splitter is a cube, made from two glass prisms connected at their base. As a beam of light hits the beam splitter, half of it continues along its path, and the other half is reflected at a 90 degree angle. There are various versions of the beam splitter that try to reduce the loss of light, but this is the basis of a beam splitter. It turns out that mirrors are amazingly versatile—who knew? |

10 There have been sightings of UFOs at the naval Area 51, the United States Navy’s Atlantic Undersea Test and Evaluation Center, which is located near the Bermuda Triangle. 9 27 men in six United States Navy bombers as well as their rescuers vanished in the Bermuda Triangle in 1945. One pilot was heard saying, “Everything looks strange, even the ocean,” just before their plane mysteriously vanished. 8 In 1492, Christopher Columbus sailed through the still waters of the Bermuda Triangle. However, he documented strange compass readings and a fireball in the sky. That’s when it all began. 7 On November 3, 1978, Irving Rivers’ Eastern Caribbean Airways plane mysteriously disappeared from the radar seconds after the controllers at the airport in Saint Thomas cleared it for landing. Surprisingly, the plane was less than two miles from the airport. Search rescues have never found the plane. 6 The mysterious disappearance of the USS Cyclops ship and its 306 crew and passengers at the Bermuda Triangle is the single largest loss of life in U.S. Naval history not directly involving combat. 5 Contrary to popular belief, insurance companies do not charge higher premiums for shipping in the Bermuda Triangle. 4 It is believed that the legendary ‘lost’ city of Atlantis exists under the Bermuda Triangle. 3 On average, the Triangle claims four aircrafts, and 20 ships and yachts every year. Over 1,000 lives have been lost at the Triangle since 1900. Via wikimedia.org 2 There exists high levels of methane gas beneath the waters of the Bermuda Triangle. Studies have shown that these hydrates can sink a scale model ship by decreasing the density of the water and any wreckage rising to the top is rapidly dispersed by the Gulf Stream. 1 A pilot by the name Bruce Gernon is the only person in the world to witness what creates the Bermuda Triangle. He traveled through a time-warping cloud tunnel for 28 minutes without sight of the Earth or the skies only to find himself on the Miami Beach afterwards. |

Despite the increasing number of online resources and shifting dealer strategies, car shopping is still a bother. Add in all the new car segments, vehicle features, and technology acronyms, and the process becomes truly daunting. There’s a long list of confusing topics when finding the right car, but all-wheel drive (AWD) and four-wheel drive (4WD) seem to consistently confound dealer salespeople and car shoppers alike. Often, these terms are used interchangeably, but are they really the same? In the motoring world, they actually refer to very different systems, which can produce radically different results. But let’s get to the point: how does 4WD or AWD impact your daily driving life, and which badge belongs on your car? Four-Wheel Drive (4WD) Lets start with the old-school version. 4WD, sometimes also referred to as Four by Four, or 4×4, is typically used on off-road vehicles – or at least vehicles with all-terrain capabilities. Unfortunately, 4WD doesn’t fit neatly in a one-sentence explanation, but we’ll stick to the basics here. Power goes from the transmission to what is known as a transfer case. This system then splits power between the front and rear axles so that maximum torque is going to each wheel. This power delivery process is nothing new, and still manages to propel modern Jeeps over, well, just about anything, but it does have some issues. When the transfer case splits power evenly, it ensures that each wheel turns at the same speed. This is deeply problematic when doing things like turning. You see, for a car to make a turn, the inside wheel has to turn more slowly than the outside wheel, which is covering more ground. If the vehicle can’t do this, the inside wheel loses traction and it spins freely. This, as you might be able to guess, isn’t great for moving forward efficiently. There are a couple of ways that modern 4WD systems get around this. For starters, most modern 4WD systems are only on when you activate them. This can be done electronically or by using that protruding lever that sits somewhere between your radio and the center console. That way, you can use 4WD at low speed in snow or mud, but enjoy the drivability of two-wheel drive in normal conditions. When left in 2WD, there are fewer moving parts, and therefore fewer restrictions to forward motion. Said a different way, you’ll save fuel when don’t need to engage 4WD. The other, more refined 4WD systems are activated with buttons or switches, rather than a manual lever, and include multiple settings for the 4WD system. These systems usually have a 4WD ‘High’, which splits power less evenly and allows what’s called ‘limited slip’ between the inside and outside wheels. This corrects the locked, spinning inside wheel problem to a point. Typically, however, High 4WD is recommended only up to around 60 mph. Flip these into ‘Low’, and they act much the same as old, locked systems. You really don’t want to try moving quickly in 4WD Low…things start breaking. 4WD Pros: – Best traction in off-road conditions – Can be turned off to improve fuel economy – Proven, rugged technology 4WD Cons: – Adds weight and complexity to cars – Can’t be used in all conditions – More expensive than two wheel drive models All-Wheel Drive (AWD) All-Wheel Drive is a much more recent innovation, and, as you might expect, much more complicated. It crops up on everything from supercars like the Audi R8 to grocery-getters like the Buick Encore. In fact, a good rule of thumb might be to think of AWD as the “car” system while 4WD is the “truck” system. In this rule, consider crossovers like the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV-4, Mazda CX-3, etc. to fall under the “car” category while SUVs like the Chevrolet Tahoe and Toyota 4Runner fall under the “truck” category. To better understand the differences between crossovers and SUVs, check out this article. The biggest difference between 4WD and AWD is that an AWD drive system is on all the time. Well, mostly. But we’ll get to that, as there are two types of all-wheel drive: mechanical and electronic. The most common way of accomplishing a capable, mechanical AWD system is by using three differentials. A differential is a box of gears, a.k.a. engineering magic, that can take power from the transmission and split it at different levels between two wheels or the front and rear axles (four wheels). Related: Learn The Differences Between FWD, RWD, AWD, and 4WD In AWD, this system works to get power to the wheels with the most traction by splitting power between the front and rear axels on the center differential, and the individual wheels by way of the front and rear differentials. This is useful either in slippery conditions when different wheels might be getting different amounts of grip from moment to moment. The Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG is a perfect example. It is now sold only in AWD in the United States because its power can overwhelm the traction of the rear wheels alone. But even when we aren’t talking about 500+ horsepower cars, splitting power evenly means added stability in all types of weather. AWD isn’t quite as robust as 4WD and it can’t match the same levels of traction in extremely low-speed off-roading that the older 4WD systems provide. But AWD does have some clear advantages. The pioneer and industry standard for AWD systems, Audi Quattro, distributed torque mechanically. Quattro allowed Audi to dominate rallying for nearly a decade in the 1980’s. But heaven help you and your bank account if it went wrong. These days, computers are involved in most AWD systems. Sensors on each wheel monitor traction, wheel speed, and several other data points hundreds of times a second. An ECU (engine control unit) dictates where power is sent and to which individual wheel depending on whichever has the most grip. This type of system, usually called torque vectoring, appears on everything from the Subaru WRX to the Dodge Charger these days. Torque vectoring has allowed massive improvements in handling and all-weather capability. AWD Pros: – Provides increased grip and control under all road conditions – Gives sportier handling and traction to a broader range of cars. – Works all the time AWD Cons: – Reduces Fuel Economy – Increases the weight and complexity of vehicles – Not as good in extreme off-road conditions So Which Do I Want? As the pros and cons show, your four-wheel drive system decision depends on what you need the system for. Again, I’ll bring up that Crossover v. SUV debate, because it probably addresses the two types of vehicles you’re shopping right now. If you plan on using your vehicle off-road often, 4WD is definitely the best bet. 4WD appears on pickups and truck-platform SUVs that have the durability to match the ruggedness of a 4WD system. For most people, however, AWD makes more sense. In the sort of winter road conditions that most drivers experience, it’s nice to have a drivetrain, like a modern AWD system, that responds instantly without the driver having to toggle any switches. In addition, most vehicles featuring AWD tend to have better weight distribution, which also aids in traction (and performance). The reality is that for many drivers, you don’t need either. If you live in an area that doesn’t get real wintery weather, you probably would only notice the difference a couple of times a year, and in many cases, your best bet is a good set of winter tires. Seriously. Tires can do far more than AWD or 4WD on all-season or summer rubber.
