Wayne Rooney ended a club goal drought of 878 minutes in style last night when he scored a hat-trick during Manchester United's 4-0 victory against Club Brugge.

It was the 29-year-old's first treble since 2011 and also marked the eighth time that he had achieved the feat for the Red Devils following his switch from Everton in 2004.

Here, Sportsmole Centre looks back on each of the centre-forward's three-goal hauls.

1. Man United 6-2 Fenerbahce (September 2004)

Wayne Rooney of Manchester United celebrates his second goal with Ryan Giggs during the UEFA Champions League Group D match between Manchester United and Fenerbahce SK at Old Trafford on September 28, 2004

When Rooney joined United, he was still nursing the broken foot that he had suffered while on England duty at Euro 2004. The 18-year-old proved to be worth the wait as he netted a hat-trick on his first ever outing for the club.

His first goal of this entertaining Champions League group encounter came in the 17th minute when he fired into the roof of Rustu Recber's net. Eleven minutes later he drilled in his second goal from the edge of the box, before he went on to complete the trio with a curling free kick.

2. Bolton 0-4 Man United (October 2006)

Having not scored for club or country in 10 matches, Rooney marked his 21st birthday in style. Within the opening 16 minutes, the young striker had ended the drought by scoring a goal with either foot.

Then in the final minute Rooney raced onto Darren Fletcher's through-ball to slot his low shot inside Jussi Jaaskelainen's near post - happy birthday indeed!

3. Portsmouth 1-4 Man United (November 2009)

At Fratton Park Rooney showed good composure from 12 yards, with two of his three goals coming from the penalty spot.

Sandwiched in the middle of those strikes was a smart finish from close range following a well-weighted Ryan Giggs pass. While the Portsmouth defenders appealed for offside, Rooney showed no hesitation in getting the better of Asmir Begovic.

4. Man United 4-0 Hull (January 2010)

Three goals was not enough for Rooney on this occasion, who went one better against the Tigers at Old Trafford. With much of the crowd having started their 'Green and Gold' protest against the club's owners, Rooney pounced on an error from visiting goalkeeper Boaz Myhill to break the deadlock in the eighth minute.

However, his second goal of the contest didn't arrive until the 82nd minute when he lashed a shot inside Myhill's near post. Nani was the creator for the hat-trick goal - a close-range header - while the fourth came in stoppage time, despite the attention of two defenders.
