Kenya has overtaken Nigeria as the highest importer and is dependent on the import of second-hand clothes popularly known as Okiri in Nigeria. ENigeria News reports that a survey by Business Insider Kenya imported used clothes (Okirika) valued at Sh38.5 billion ($298 million), a 12.45% rise over the previous year, according to the most recent trade data published by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), a university in the United States. The increase demonstrates Kenya’s increasing reliance on reasonably priced used clothes, or “mitumba” as it is known locally, which includes dresses, shirts, pants, coats, shoes, bedding, towels, curtains, and undergarments. ENigeria News reports that MIT’s Observatory of Economic Complexity ranked South Africa third with Sh33.76 billion ($261 million) in 2022, while Kenya imported almost as much used clothing and textiles as Nigeria ($34.5 billion, or $265 million). In 2021, South Africa was the leading importer of used clothes and textiles, though the country restricted such imports, except for specific purposes such as manufacturing industrial wiping rags or donating to registered charities. In 2023, Ghana ranked as the second-largest importer of second-hand clothes, with imports valued at Sh30.4 billion. South Africa followed at Sh29.4 billion, with Uganda at Sh27.2 billion and Nigeria at Sh27 billion. Despite Nigeria’s larger population and official ban on used clothing imports, Kenya now leads the continent in the trade. Recent tax policy changes, including the removal of the import declaration fees (IDF) and the railway development levy (RDL), are expected to further increase mitumba imports in Kenya. Manufacturers have kicked against these changes, arguing that they undermine local industry. SOURCE: https://enigerianews.com/kenya-overtakes-nigeria-in-import-of-used-clothes-okirika/

There is another round of tension in Edo State, as the Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal is now set to deliver judgment on the Edo State governorship election. ENigeria News reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the governorship election, a development that was immediately challenged by Asue Ighodalo, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Edo State. According to INEC, Okpebholo defeated Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP). However, the PDP candidate, Asue Ighodalo, launched a petition contesting Okpebholo’s election victory on September 21, 2024. They charged INEC with electoral irregularities, such as excessive voting, a failure to serialize ballots, collation issues, and inaccurate result computations. In addition to calling a senior technical officer from INEC’s ICT department, the petitioners called 19 witnesses during the tribunal sessions. The officer provided 154 BVAS machines as evidence to support claims of over-voting. In the case, which was marked EPT/ED/GOV/02/2024, INEC did not call any witnesses in response to the petition. Okpebholo presented one witness, while the APC brought forward four witnesses before concluding their defense. The three-member panel, led by Justice Wilfred Kpochi in the Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, had, in the last seating, stated that the tribunal’s judgment would be delivered at a later date. “A date for judgment will be communicated to the parties by the Secretary of the tribunal. The tribunal stands adjourned until then,” said Justice Kpochi. In its recent communication, the Tribunal has scheduled Wednesday, April 2, 2025, to deliver its judgment on the September 2024 election, hence fueling another round of tension in the state after the recent killing of over 19 Fulani ‘hunters’ days back. Following her divorce saga and hiatus from the social scene, Annie Idibia appears to have gotten back her mojo, cleaned up nicely, upgraded her wardrobe, and made a huge comeback to the social scene, reviving her social media presence and beginning to mix with friends again. ENigeria News published a report day back citing how Natasha Osawaru Igbinedia had added Idibia to her Instagram bio, thus fueling speculations of a possible secret nuptials with 2Face Idibia, but close family sources have refused to speak to us when our correspondent reached out over the weekend. Natasha’s move came days after Annie had personally signed an Instagram post with her maiden name, Annie Uwana Macaulay, obviously leaving out Idibia. Annie Idibia returns to Social Scene ENigeria News observed that since publishing an appreciation post thanking friends and family for standing by her, Annie has conspicuously been spotted in several gatherings with friends and close allies. The mother of two and now estranged wife of Nigerian musician Innocent Idibia, aka 2Face, had been spotted cruising in exotic cars, traveling in a private jet, and attending several events and hangouts comprising of her friends and supporters. Her social media presence has also increased lately, with goodwill messages from women support groups flooding her comment section. Annie wrote: To my family, to my friends who came through for me, the support system I have now, all my amazing family HERE and all over the world. God bless you for the outpouring of love. I appreciate every single one of you, and I do not take any of it for granted; may the universe continue to be in your favor. God Bless You All. Lots of LOVE. Annie Uwana Macaulay.” A close observation shows that the estranged Mrs. Idibia has visibly cleaned up and upgraded her wardrobe or changed her stylist in preparation for the next episode of her life’s journey into single motherhood. Like Annie, Like May Edochie and others Flooding the comment section of Annie Idibia in solidarity were concerned friends and mostly women like Iyabo Ojo, Lola Omotayo-Okoye, May Yul-Edochie, Angela Okorie, Omoni Oboli, and others. The scenario calls to heart the incident with May and Yul Edochie’s marriage saga, when women rallied around May and provided moral support for her, arranging gigs, movie roles, and endorsements for her. Would Annie’s support base do the same for her at this time? It remains to be seen. Chijioke Edeoga, a former Labour Party governorship candidate in the 2023 election, has returned to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). ENigeria News reports that Chijioke Edeoga, who previously served in the PDP as a federal lawmaker and commissioner in various capacities, is repositioning for the 2027 election year. He took to the PDP state secretariat on Monday to announce his defection, citing Governor Peter Mbah’s leadership as a key factor in his decision. You would recall that months back, Governor Peter Mbah dispatched party delegations to approach and beckon on Edeoga to return to the party as the party needs experienced high-ranking members like him for growth and stability. He welcomed the party’s delegation and promised to carefully think about their proposition. “Apparently, he thinks the condition presented to him favours him, hence the decision to rejoin the PDP," a source told our correspondent in Enugu moments ago. Edeoga was a major contender in the 2023 election, where he gave the PDP candidate, Peter Mbah, a run for his money and platform of his party. Riding on the Peter Obi wave, Edeoga almost cruised to victory but for the skirmishes and alleged irregularities here and there. SOURCE: https://enigerianews.com/chijioke-edeoga-returns-to-pdp/

Chamberlain is a three-time Golden Globe winner who has worked as an actor, singer, soldier, painter, and author throughout the years. Jude Okoye, P-Square’s former manager and elder brother of Peter and Paul Okoye, is still languishing and would be spending Salah break in prison custody. ENigeria News reports that on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, Jude Okoye was arraigned alongside his company, Northside Music Ltd., by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) before Justice Alexandra Owoeye of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, on a seven-count charge bordering on money laundering to the tune of N1.38 billion ($1 million and £34,537.59, $1,019,762.87), domiciled in Access Bank Plc and operated by Northside Music Ltd. He was also alleged to have directly acquired a landed property known as No. 5, Tony Eromosele Street, Parkview Estate, Ikoyi, Lagos, worth N850,000,000.00 (eight hundred and fifty million naira), all of which was “part of the proceeds of an unlawful act.” The defendant was then granted bail by the court with two sureties in the like sum of N100 million. Justice Owoeye also ruled that the two sureties must provide documentation of their properties that fall within the court’s jurisdiction and fixed April 14, 2025, for trial. ENigeria News reports that on March 6, 2025, the EFCC again proceeded to re-arraign Jude Okoye before a Special Offenses court in Ikeja headed by Justice Ramon Oshodi on similar charges, where he was again granted bail with two sureties in the like sum of N50 million each, while the court set April 16 and 23 for trial. However, this newspaper has noted that Mr. Okoye has been locked up at the Ikoyi correctional center for one month and counting because judges are yet to sign the order to release him on bail. A few days ago, our correspondent met with P-Square’s official attorney, barrister Somadina Eugene Okorie, in court and requested an audience to update us on his client’s release and how far he had gone, but he declined to do so. Meanwhile, court sources disclosed to ENigeria News correspondent exclusively that although the bail requirements for Justice Oshodi’s court have been fulfilled, the judge is allegedly on a brief vacation but is anticipated to return to work on April 6. Speaking to our correspondent, the source further stated that “Justice Owoeye is yet to approve the bail for the Federal High Court since Barrister Somadina and his team are still trying to satisfy all the requirements.” SOURCE: https://enigerianews.com/jude-okoye-to-spend-salah-break-in-prison-as-lawyer-works-to-perfect-bail/

ENigeria News has obtained audited financial statements of the Tony Elumelu-led United Bank for Africa (UBA), which exposed how the lender lost a whopping sum of $3.15 million to fraudsters who hacked and diverted the said sum to separate accounts. In a statement released to ENigeria News on Monday, the Tony Elumelu-led UBA Plc reported a profit after tax of ₦766.6 billion ($493 million), upscaling its 2023 fiscal year earnings of N607.7 billion. However, a deep analysis by this newspaper pointed out that, while the bank concentrated on areas where it performed well, it failed to also explicitly asterisk other key denominators contained in its report to the Nigeria Stock Exchange (NGX). For instance, according to its latest audited financial report for the year ending 2024, sent to the NGXfiscal, UBA Plc lost ₦4.9 billion ($3.15 million) worth of transactions that were linked to fraudulent activities during the year in view, with 23% translating into actual losses. Electronic fraud accounted for the largest portion, costing the bank ₦805 million ($518,000), while fraudulent transfers led to ₦314 million ($202,000) in losses—88% of the value involved in such cases. United Bank for Africa (UBA) lost ₦1.14 billion ($744,200) to fraud in 2024, even as the Nigerian lender reported a profit after tax of ₦766.6 billion ($493 million), according to its latest audited financial statements. The losses, primarily from electronic fraud and unauthorized transfers, highlight the ongoing battle Nigerian banks face against rising fraud. UBA disclosed that ₦4.9 billion ($3.15 million) worth of transactions were linked to fraudulent activities in 2024, with 23% translating into actual losses. Electronic fraud accounted for the largest portion, costing the bank ₦805 million ($518,000), while fraudulent transfers led to ₦314 million ($202,000) in losses—88% of the value involved in such cases. Its losses highlight how susceptible even the most successful Nigerian banks are to fraud, regardless of the fact that the said sum only makes up a small portion of UBA’s record-breaking yearly profit. However, while UBA’s post-tax profit of ₦766.6 billion ($493 million) represents a noteworthy 26% rise over 2023’s ₦607.7 billion ($391 million), ENigeria News reports that the reviewed data further confirms that the Tony Elumelu-led bank may be far from an actual breakthrough in its technical drive towards curbing fraudulent activities within the bank, unlike the image it paints to the public. UBA’s disclosure—the first from the bank since 2012—comes at a time when Nigerian banks are under increased pressure to fight fraud. For instance, according to data released by Fitch, Nigerian banks lost ₦10.1 billion ($6.7 million) to fraud in Q3 2024, a 76.4% decline from the previous quarter, according to a Financial Institutions Training Centre (FITC) report. Yet, the rising sophistication of fraudsters continues to pose a challenge to even the most robust security systems. According to the FITC report, outsider involvement in fraud cases surged by 70.4% between Q2 and Q3 2024, while staff-related fraud increased by 54% during the same period. “There is no fraud involving management or other employees who could have any significant role in the bank’s internal control,” UBA said in its financial statements. The rise in fraud incidents comes amid broader financial pressures in Nigeria’s banking sector. In January, the Central Bank of Nigeria directed NIBSS to debit the settlement accounts of commercial banks that receive fraud proceeds, a move aimed at forcing banks to tighten internal controls and curb illicit financial flows. UBA’s disclosure marks a shift toward transparency in Nigeria’s banking sector, where many institutions still choose to downplay fraud risks for fear of suffering reputational harm. Only 60 of 163 financial institutions in Nigeria reported fraud cases in 2023, according to a Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS) report. As financial crime grows more sophisticated, regulators and banks have their work cut out: strengthen controls while maintaining customer trust. Indications have emerged that Peter Obi and the Obidient Movement abandoned Doyin Okupe while he was sick and needed them the most. ENigeria News reports that a controversy has since been brewing on social media following a statement credited to Isaac Balami, a former Labour Party chieftain who accused Peter Obi and the Obidient Movement of abandoning Chief Doyin Okupe at his lowest moment as he battled ill health and went broke on his sick bed. ENigeria News understands that Doyin Okupe, who died a few weeks ago, was reportedly down with severe illness while serving as the Director General of Peter Obi’s campaign in the 2023 general elections. A source within the family noted that late Okupe battled health challenges even while campaigning for Peter Obi, and most of his personal resources went into his health issues. According to the source, “Most of his resources had been taken away during his battle with the EFCC. Dr. Okupe needed support and help from where he worked as he struggled to fix his medical problems. He didn’t get enough for his very expensive medical care. “However, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu reached out and gave him support more than where he called home at his most trying time. “It was purely his personal decision to leave the Labour Party to where he found love. Most of you attacking and insulting him would do the same, if not worse,” the source noted. Isaac Balami Accused Peter Obi, Obidients of Abandoning Okupe in his Sick Bed ENigeria News reports that Isaac Balami, a former National Deputy Campaign Manager of the Obi/Datti Campaign in 2023, lamented that the late Okupe served wholeheartedly as director-general of Peter Obi’s campaign but was deserted when he fell ill. Balami, whose statement has fueled heated arguments on Twitter, made the comment during a service of songs held in honour of the deceased politician last Saturday. He said, “When his son was speaking, everything he said was correct except one thing that he did not say very well,” Mr. Balami said. “He said when you offend Dr. Doyin Okupe and you genuinely ask for forgiveness, he will forgive you. Dr. Doyin Okupe was in pain—people that he gave his all for deserted him, betrayed him, lied against him—yet he forgave them.” “He was deserted by the people he worked with. At some point, I reached out on his behalf. They never called him or asked how he was feeling.” Mr. Balami recounted how the late Mr. Okupe spent his personal money on the LP presidential campaign, yet was neglected when he fell ill. “The only campaign I have ever been to, I was the campaign manager nationwide, and Dr. Okupe was the DG of the campaign. We had N100 million available for that day. Dr. Okupe put all the money on the table, and all the directors would sit, and he would distribute the money. After the campaign, he was left in debt. He never went anywhere, even though the campaign had billions. He paid for them himself,” Mr. Balami said. “After a six-hour flight, he crawled to the car after major surgery. They saw him in pain, but 18 months later, they still never called him. The same people can’t even say a word to acknowledge that he was a good man. The few Obidients insulting this man on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram are very ignorant,” he added. Balami’s statement followed a series of criticisms hauled at the deceased by aggrieved Obidients who felt that he abandoned Peter Obi after he lost the election. You would recall that both Balami and Okupe had since left the Labour Party after the 2023 election results were announced. The Labour candidate came in third, according to results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). While the former defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the latter did not publicly announce defection to any political party but became sympathetic to the ruling party and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has released a statement to push back narratives by the Presidency suggesting that he did nothing to dissuade criminal groups and militants from making good their threats to attack oil installations in the state, among other issues. In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi on Thursday evening, Governor Fubara noted that it became necessary to put the records clearly because it appeared that the President was misinformed by those tasked with the responsibility to do so. In the press statement titled, “ALLEGED COMPLICITY IN ATTACKS ON OIL INSTALLATIONS: PUTTING THE RECORDS STRAIGHT,” Fubara further noted that the action of militants who bombed oil facilities in the state as well as reactions from members of the Ijaw youths Council (IYC), were orchestrated by a reckless statement made on a live Chat by Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike, where he dismissed Ijaws as a “minority of the minorities and powerless in the Nigerian polity”, saying that “Ijaws are not the only ones that are militants and can blow up pipelines; that Ogonis, Ikwerres, and others are also militants and can as well blow up pipelines.” Our attention has been drawn to a number of allegations claiming that Governor of Rivers State, His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, did nothing to dissuade criminal groups and militants from making good their threats to attack oil installations in the State. There was also another claim that after demolishing the Hallowed Chambers of the State House of Assembly on Moscow Road in Port Harcourt, the Governor did nothing to rebuild the facility. Ordinarily, we would have ignored the statements as mere results of lack of adequate information to the Presidency by those tasked with the responsibility of providing same to guide decision-making, but it has become imperative to set the records straight and correct the erroneous impression such narratives are creating in the minds of the Nigerian people. First, it is important to clarify that Governor Fubara has nothing to do with the threats by militants and also did not in any way “telegraph” the reported attacks on any oil facility in the State. It is on record that the reaction of stakeholders in the Niger Delta, especially elders, chiefs, women, Ijaw National Congress, its youth wing, IYC, as well as militants, among others, was triggered by remarks by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike, in a live media chat, during which he dismissed Ijaws as a minority of the minorities and powerless in the Nigerian polity, saying that Ijaws are not the only ones that are militants and can blow up pipelines; that Ogonis, Ikwerres, and others are also militants and can as well blow up pipelines. Most of the Ijaw groups and leaders even demanded an apology from the FCT Minister, which he rebuffed. Available public records show that Governor Fubara, on several occasions and at every forum, including all the project commissioning events as well as the handover of the AW139 Helicopter to the Nigerian Air Force, between March 3 and 13, 2025, made it clear that his administration was committed to the peace, security, and safety of oil facilities in the State. He often recalled his pivotal role as a member of the Presidential Committee on the Protection of Oil Installations in the Region, and repeatedly emphasized the need to protect oil pipelines and other facilities in the State, urging his supporters and the people of the State to avoid acts capable of destabilizing the State or sabotaging the nation’s economy. Since inception as the Chief Executive of Rivers State, Governor Fubara has prioritized investment in upscaling the welfare and operational equipment of all personnel and arms of the Armed Forces and security agencies in the State by building livable office and residential accommodation for officers and men and donating vehicles, gunboats, helicopters, and other critical needs of the formations to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in the performance of their duties. His commitment to total peace and good governance in the State has contributed significantly to increased oil production and revenues for the country since May 29, 2023, as the continuous rise in the accruable revenue from the State into the Federation Account has shown over the months. On the claim that the Governor acted with impunity to demolish the Hallowed Chambers of the State House of Assembly and did nothing to rebuild the Chambers 14 months after, it is on record that Governor Fubara acted based on professional advice and guidance. Let it be clarified that the former Governor and now FCT Minister repeatedly criticized the dilapidated and leaking Assembly Complex, and during the commissioning of the Assembly Quarters in August 2022, challenged the lawmakers to take responsibility for the poor state of the edifice, rejecting requests to rebuild it to ensure a conducive legislative environment for the lawmakers. It must be noted that immediately after the incident of October 29, 2023, and experts’ reports, the Government decided to heed the age-old demands of the lawmakers to rebuild the facility and promptly demolished the dilapidated structure to give way to a state-of-the-art Assembly Complex, which is now nearly 80 percent completed. It would be recalled that in the wake of the most peaceful and violence-free Local Government election in the State on the 5th October, 2024, the supporters of the FCT Minister violently attacked and razed facilities in some local government council secretariats without any reprisals from Governor Fubara’s supporters. It is also pertinent to draw the attention of security agencies to the fact that LGAs where those attacks were unleashed are the same places that have repeatedly witnessed violence perpetrated by detractors of the Governor Fubara-led administration. This is why it is important for the security agencies to focus on the real purveyors of violence, critically evaluate these incidents, and diligently undertake investigations to unravel the elements behind the crimes and bring them to justice without let or hindrance. It is clearly untrue that somebody who has all the while preached peace and non-violence, even in the face of extreme provocations, would be “telegraphing attacks on oil pipelines” and breaching the peace he has worked so hard to promote and sustain for the good of the people of the State. Delta State, under the leadership of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, is about to commence the construction of the multi-billion-naira Osubi Specialist Hospital, ENigeria News can report exclusively. ENigeria News reports that the proposed Osubi Specialist Hospital will be situated in Osubi community under Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State, where the governor comes from. The hospital complex is an ultra-modern facility with state-of-the-art facilities alongside modern senior staff quarters, ample green areas, and a spacious parking lot, among others. Mama Mammy Ochefu, who is the founder of the famous military cantonment Mammy Market, is dead. The cause of her death is also captured below. ENigeria News reports that Mama Mammy Ochefu, wife of the late Colonel Anthony Aboki Ochefu, reportedly died on Wednesday at an advanced age. Mama Ochefu hails from Jericho-Ugboju in the present Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State. Her legacy dates back to 1955, when, as a young bride to then-non-commissioned military officer Anthony Aboki Ochefu, she sought to support her household by selling soft drinks and a traditional beverage known as kunu at the Army Barracks in Abakpa, Enugu. Her business quickly gained popularity among soldiers, but complaints about hygiene led to restrictions on her operations. Recognizing her entrepreneurial spirit, a senior officer allocated a designated space behind the barracks where she could continue her trade. What started as a single beverage stand soon expanded, as other women in the barracks joined in selling various goods, forming what became known as the “Mammy Market.” As Colonel Ochefu was posted to different states, Mammy continued setting up similar markets, ensuring that each one remained operational even after their departure. Over time, Mammy Markets became a permanent feature in military barracks across Nigeria, serving as vital hubs for soldiers and their families. Ochefu was shot dead at a Petrol Station in Otukpo, Benue State, on 25th November 1999. After the passing of her husband, Mammy Ochefu returned to her hometown in Otukpo, where she spent the rest of her life. She is now reunited with her husband. Rest in peace, Mama Mammy Ochefu. According to the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU), the action is in line with Section 54 of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, which empowers the government to impose sanctions on individuals and organizations linked to terror-related activities. Facts have emerged on how staff of First Bank led by businessman, Femi Otedola reportedly conspired to steal a whopping sum of N550 million from the account of Abia businessman, Eke Agbai Eke. ENigeria News reports that Dr. Eke Agbai Eke had sued First Bank Nigeria over a suspicious fraudulent withdrawal of N550 million from his fixed deposit account at the bank’s former Abiriba branch, now relocated to Uzuakoli. In his lawsuit, filed by his lawyer, Ebuka Nwaeze, the claimant stated that the Femi Otedola-led First Bank has refused to return his deposit, which he originally placed at the Abiriba branch to help sustain the bank’s presence in his community. The claimant stated that, as a community leader, he viewed the deposit as a contribution to local development. The alleged fraud came to light in December 2023 when Eke discovered he could no longer access his personal account through the bank’s mobile app and was unable to reach the Business Development Manager. ENigeria News reports that upon visiting First Bank’s Gwarinpa branch in Abuja, he was reportedly informed that N550 million had been withdrawn from his fixed deposit in six consecutive transactions—even though he was in Umuahia at the time of the unauthorized deductions. Following this discovery, Eke demanded the liquidation of his fixed deposit, but months passed without any action from the bank. After multiple complaints, First Bank launched an internal investigation, which resulted in the dismissal of fewer than nine senior officials allegedly linked to the fraud. While First Bank’s legal counsel declined to comment, the plaintiff’s lawyers have publicly addressed the matter. The Abia State High Court sitting in Umuahia has adjourned the case between Dr Eke Agbai and First Bank of Nigeria Ltd. to March 26 and April 2 for the commencement of the hearing. The case, marked HU/233/2024, centers on Dr Agbai’s claim that First Bank refused to release his fixed deposit of N550m, which he had lodged with the bank’s Abiriba branch to support its continued presence in the community. During Tuesday’s proceedings, both parties were present in court. The presiding judge, Justice U.D. Enwereji, subsequently adjourned the case to allow for a proper hearing and presentation of evidence. Many Nigerians have finally switched from DSTV to SLTV decoders, powered by a new rapidly expanding and more reasonably priced pay television provider that is currently dominating the market, according to a recent survey monitored by ENigeria News. After several years of loyalty to the Multi Choice-owned DTSV, ENigeria News has observed that most Nigerian families are fast switching to MetroDigital SLTV satellite dishes and decoders as their new source of unlimited home entertainment. The decision of families to switch to the new pay TV service, which, by the way, is packed with exciting programs, is not unconnected, “incessant price hikes, repetition of programs, duplication of similar channels, duplication of substandard programs,” among other sighted issues. It would be recalled that the South African-owned DSTV had enjoyed monopoly for years and generated billions of dollars in revenues from satellite TV subscriptions in Nigeria, which is said to be its biggest market in Africa. However, in a shocking turn of events, the Nigeria Broadcasting Commission (NBC), in its amended broadcasting code 2022, aimed at eliminating monopolies in the cable TV market and directed that rights to programs should be increased and not exclusive anymore. ENigeria News reports that the NBC code is meant to increase the number of players in the pay-TV and allow competition, considering that several Nigerian-owned cable TV companies have shut down due to MultiChoice’s monopoly on customer-driven programs. However, it was also observed that on several occasions, DSTV had violated the directives of NBC, as well as an appeal court ruling that ordered it to relinquish the absolute rights of some of its programs to smaller pay-TV companies in Nigeria. But despite the suppression and victimization allegedly orchestrated by DSTV and some powerful forces within the system, SLTV appears to be growing in leaps and bounds, as more Nigerians have embraced the latest ‘darling’ in the satellite TV market. SLTV TV has a programming mix of 55 channels and pricing starting at N2,500 for the basic plan and N5,000 for the gold plan. It has different categories of programs, such as entertainment, movies, kids fun, and sports. Other Factors That Worked Against DSTV ENigeria News reports that a new wave of lifestyle and entertainment is before Nigerians, who have now fully embraced YouTube as a major streaming platform for movies, talk shows, podcasts, and documentaries. With more interesting features on the platform and over 2.7 billion active users, YouTube is now keeping movie buffs glued to their mobile devices more than ever. Another game-changer is Tik Tok. Just for the comedy, fun, and laughing, more and more people are turning to TikTok, which also gives them the chance to make money while using the app. “The only thing keeping me glued to my TV right now is soccer games; if not, my phone does the rest for me,” Kazeem told our correspondent in Lagos. A movie, Love in Every Word, which has peaked over 7 million views on Youtube within 72 hours has been removed from the platform, ENigeria News reports. Love in Every Word, which casts talented Nollywood actors like Uzor Arukwe (lead role), Bamike Olawunmi, popularly known as Bam Bam (lead role), among others, was produced by actress and producer, Omoni Oboli. The movie was reportedly removed from Youtube over a filed copyright claim by one Chinonso Obiora Skyberry. The movie, which gained over 7 million views barely 72 hours after it was released, did not show up in search results when I checked around 10pm on Tuesday night. ENigeria News reports that an attempt to visit the direct link to the movie was unsuccessful. “This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by Chinonso Obiora Skyberry” displays a message on the YouTube link. From Chinonso Obiora’s Skyberry profile on LinkedIn, he is the owner of Skyberry Studios, an Abuja-based photography and aerial videography business. Obiora’s roles in the company include Lead Drone Pilot & Editor. Could it be that some of his drone shots were used in the movie without proper permission and authorization from him? Hence YouTube had to pull the whole video down. SOURCE: https://enigerianews.com/why-youtube-removed-omoni-obolis-love-in-every-word-movie/

Peter Obi, a former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 presidential election, is concluding plans to join the Social Democratic Party (SDP). Peter Obi, who has risen to become a phenomenal political figure in Nigeria, has lately become the darling of most big players in the political scene in Nigeria since his groundbreaking performance in the 2023 presidential election, where he defeated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in his stronghold state of Lagos. According to figures declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, scored an overall 6,101,533, coming third behind Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the keenly contested election. And in Lagos, which is considered the stronghold of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Obi scored 582,454 votes, ahead of former Lagos governor Bola Tinubu, who scored 572,606, while Atiku Abubakar of the main opposition PDP scored 75,750 votes. ENigeria News reports that prior to the elections, Peter Obi’s campaign had called on voters to reject both the ruling party (APC) and main opposition party (PDP), which have run Africa's most populous country for a quarter century, under whose governance he says corruption has flourished and insecurity has spread across the country. Obi was most popular with the youth, but especially urban, relatively educated voters with access to smartphones and social media. He was, however, faced with an uphill struggle in rural areas in the north with a less sophisticated audience. In the face of a surging economic crisis, inflation, and the rising cost of living in Nigeria, Obi’s popularity continues to soar, with many opposition leaders in Nigeria considering a coalition to possibly unseat the incumbent government come 2027.
