The National Lotteries Authority (NLA) says it
plans to increase its contribution to the
government’s Consolidated Fund by 20
percent in the last quarter.
With August revenue alone standing at GH
¢23.3million, Director of Corporate Planning
and Sales Kplorlali Gbologah said: “The last
quarter is our ‘cocoa season’, and we always
perform better than the previous quarter so
we are looking at a 20 percent increment.
“We hope that we will make the money
needed. We are expecting to do better and
already things are picking up,” he told the
B&FT on the sidelines of the NLA Retailers Club
launch.
The Retailers Club is one that will bring all NLA
retailers together from every quarter to
interact with staff and management. The club
will bring about many advantages, including
reduction of tension in business; serve as a
source of pride and motivation for high-
performing retailers; and provide a milieu
for cross-fertilisa tion of ideas and sharing of
best practices.
Effective this last quarter, retailers will be
ranked quarterly based on their performance
according to an established criterion that
takes into account the number of daily
products sold and the average throughput
per point of sales terminal.
The top performers will be selected at the
zonal, regional and national levels to become
prestigious members of the club. Mr.
Gbologah added that there are interesting
activities lined up for the personal and
business development of club-members.
“We at the NLA believe that the fun
environment this club will offer will be one
great source of motivation for the members.
We also believe the prestigious feeling that
will be associated with the club will become
infectious and help change the business
attitude of our retailers for higher
performance.
“Above all, we are hopeful that the club will
help bring our retailers and staff to work
together,” he added.
Since the NLA’s inception in 2006, Mr.
Gbologah stated, the Authority has
implemented some transformational
changes including the introduction of daily
fixed-odds games, Caritas and SMS lottery
platforms, and full automation of lottery
processes online -- which led to the
elimination of manual lottery in their
operations.
“In addition, focus has been on changing the
perception of our corporate image and
product brands, and enforcement of the
clauses in the NLA’s legal instrument --
especially against illegal lottery operators.
“These initiatives are improving our efficiency
and overall effectiveness, delivering
convenience to our retailers and final
consumers whose lives are improving. Our
key performance indicators are pointing in
the right direction. Our gross revenue, for
instance, has grown by 470 percent from GH
¢59million in 2011 to GH¢240million in 2012.”
