The 7 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, on Saturday entered and cleared Gudumbali town in Guzamala Local Government Area of Borno.

This is contained in a statement signed by Col. Sani Usman, Acting Director, Army Public Relations.

He said the effort was part of the continued offensive against the Boko Haram terrorists.

He added that during the operation, a number of terrorists were killed and their weapons and equipment destroyed.

Usman recalled that the Nigerian Air Force inflicted severe damage on the terrorists’ camps within the general area last Monday.

In related development, Usman said that troops of 5 Brigade Explosive Ordinance Devices (EOD) unit ran into landmines while advancing towards Dikwa.

He said the landmines were buried by the terrorists between old Marte and Kerenoa junction in Marte Local Government Area of Borno.

According to Usman, two soldiers lost their lives, while two others sustained critical injuries from the landmine explosion.

“The bodies of the two gallant soldiers have been evacuated while the two wounded soldiers are already receiving treatment at the military hospital,’’ he said.

Usman said the army also lost a Mowag Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) in the same location.

“Despite these sad events, the troops are not deterred as they continue their advance and pursuit of the terrorists to their enclaves in Sambisa forest.

“The troops in the various formations and units in Operation LAFIYA DOLE are in very high spirits and more determined to destroy the terrorists’ camps and enclaves,’’ he said.

Nigeria - Students of Madonna university has come forth with an agonizing tale of how authorities of the university ordered his abduction torture.

Final year Engineering student of Akpugo campus, Enugu, Stanley Okoye, says he and his friend, Lord Galim, were locked in a vehicle boot and abducted by the institution’s Dean, Student Affairs, Rev. Fr. Isaac Jinga, and the Chief Security Officer, Ogbonna Oke before being tortured to death point.

The authorities reportedly said the CSO was attacked outside the campus and they suspected the duo of having a hand in it.

Okoye alleged that he was beaten so badly that he suffered a spinal injury and sustained cuts on his face and all over his body while his friend had a fractured upper and lower jaws, internal and external ear injuries, torn lips, bloodied eyes and abdominal and chest pains.

After their ordeal, the two students were allegedly taken secretly to the Madonna University Teaching Hospital, Elele, Rivers State for surgeries by their torturers, who seized their phones to prevent them from communicating with their families.

For the criminal attack on the two students, Jinga and Oke were arraigned by the police at an Nkanu West Magistrate Court, Enugu on July 14, 2015 on a two-count charge of felony, causing grievous bodily harm with intent to maim, and disfigure their victims.

Okoye’s parents had also taken the matter further by instituting a N1bn suit against the university authorities at the Federal High Court, Enugu, for the criminal assault on their son and his friend.

*Job creation drops massively

AS President Mo-hammmadu Buhari begins action on his campaign promises one of the key promises, job creation, appears to have become further worsened as a high powered report indicates a sharp drop in that major economic front in the second quarter 2015 (Q2 2015), covering his first month in office.

In the Q2 2015 total number of jobs created in the economy was just 141,368, a massive 70 per cent decline from 469,070 jobs created in the economy in the first quarter 2015 and also 45.5 per cent decline against the position in the corresponding quarter of 2014.

Two of Buhari’s key campaign promises were anti-corruption and job creation which earned him massive voter supports that pull the victory at the pools in March 2015 presidential election.

The President has since inception of his regime on May 29, 2015 embarked on further measures to stem and stifle corruption especially in the oil sector, but no visible action has been taken on job creation and general economic framework.
