As I indicated earlier the US had no plans to seize territories, nor stay in the long term, the US plan was to train and armed the "ANA" that is the Afghanistan national army and leave the protection of the country to the ingenious military, same thing the US did in Iraq, train and arm the local military and allow the military take care of the territorial defence of the country, it is just a just a pity that the ANA even when armed with sophisticated weapons refused to defend their country.
