I know where you're coming from but trust me, Obasanjo failed Nigeria even more than Tinubu and co. If you’ve ever tried to do KYC on an app, you know the process. They ask you to snap your face, there’s a round circle on the screen, your face fits nicely inside, everywhere else looks white or black, and boom, you snap.
Simple abi?
Well… not exactly.

I work around fintech products, and recently a colleague opened my eyes to something that is both shocking and hilarious.

Some users are taking their KYC selfies completely naked.
Yes. Naked.
Breasts out. No top. No cover. No fear of God 😭

And the funniest part? Most of them genuinely believe only their face is being sent.
Where the confusion is coming from

That round face circle has deceived a lot of people.

Because:
Your face is inside a neat circle
The rest of the screen looks blank or dark
There’s no strong warning explaining what’s captured

So people assume:


Wrong.
The app captures the full image, not just your face.
So while you’re snapping “only face”, the backend is receiving:

Face, Chest, Background and Everything else God put there
And yes, real humans sometimes have to review these images.

Advice to users (please read this well)
If you’re about to do KYC on any app:

Wear clothes. Simple.
Assume everything your camera sees is captured
Only show your face and shoulders

Now, to the app designers and product people
This problem is also a UI and UX issue, not just user behaviour.

Here are simple ways apps can fix this:

1. Clear warning before camera opens
Before opening the selfie camera, show a full screen message like: “Your entire image will be captured and reviewed. Please wear appropriate clothing.”

Force users to tap “Continue”.

2. Blur, don’t hide, the background

Instead of black or white outside the face circle:
Show a blurred live preview of the full camera frame This tells users visually that everything exists, it’s just blurred.

3. Strong text on the camera screen
Add visible text: “Full image is captured. Do not upload nude or inappropriate photos.”

Not small helper text. Make it loud.

Most people are not wicked. They’re just confused.
Again please, if you’re doing KYC: Wear cloth.

And you're very correct, the UI/UX is a major issue and this should come with a warning cos tech companies are joking with a potential law suit. If you don't tell your customers that all their upper body is being captured and the app makes it appear like only their face is captured, you're joking with a law suit...

The consumer population, purchasing power, diversity, infrastructure, market, accessibility in Lagos remain the sole reasons why people prefer Lagos ports. Those in the East might prefer to use South -South ports but majority of Igbo businessmen are based in Lagos, cashing out on the population of Lagos state and nearby states like Ogun & Oyo.

Lagos is much more than her ports... Besides, the Lekki deep seaport would open soon, making it even more mouth-watering for investors and shipping activities. If you don't understand at this point, it's no use replying further. 🥴

Sanwo-Olu doesn't need to fret because most people will still use the Lagos port anyway, but the revenues might be lower. The population of Lagos is a major factor and the largest market is there, regardless of any overbloated ego any group of people have.

If the Lekki Deep Seaport can have advanced infrastructure, Lagos would even generate more revenue with time.
