We all have a different body shape and it is very crucial that you work in sync with it. Your body shape is determined by the fat concentration in your body. Once you know what body shape you have, you can lose weight accordingly.


How to identify your body shape


We all have some fat on our body. It is distributed all over the body but there are certain parts where it is more visible. Some of us have it around our chest or the mid-section, making our body shaped like an apple while some have fat around the belly and the thigh area, giving rise to the famous pear-shaped body.

According to experts, the main difference between the two most common body shapes is where the fat is concentrated. For this, it is important to measure the waist to hip circumference and compare it against the hip circumference. If the waist circumference is higher than the hip circumference, then you have an apple-shaped body. On the contrary, if you have a smaller waist circumference than hip circumference, then you have are pear-shaped.

According to Dr Dawn Harper, who, in his book 'Live Well to 101' writes that fat in itself is not a bad thing but it is important to get rid of the excess fat to prevent the risk of diabetes and heart diseases. If you have a body shape like this, you also should keep in mind your age and gender.

Detailing further, Dr Dawn Harper says that the total body fat percentage for both men and women can be calculated using this formula:

Men
Body fat percentage= (1.20 x BMI) + ( 0.23x age) - 16.2

Women
Body fat percentage= (1.20x BMI) + ( 0.23 x age) - 5.4


How to know you are at risk?


If you are a woman aged between 20-40, body fat percentage between 21-33% is considered to be healthy whereas anything greater than 39% becomes a cause of concern. However, for women aged between 41-60, it differs. Healthy body fat percentage is considered to be between 25-35%. A percentage greater than 40 increases the risk of obesity by a huge margin.

Similarly, if you are a man between the age of 20-40, you should aim at having fat between 8-19% which is considered healthy. Any margin greater than 25% is very risky, health-wise.

If you fall into the age category of 41-60, ideal body percentage is considered to be between 11-22% whereas body fat percentage greater than 24% is considered to be obese.

Once you figure out where you are and how healthy your fat is, you can target these fat cells and make lifestyle changes accordingly. Changing your diet, including metabolism boosting food items, working out every day or even picking up the pace instead of simply staying sedentary can make a huge difference.

DAAD research grants provide young foreign academics and scientists with an opportunity to carry out research and continue their education in Germany. There are funding programs for various qualification phases and stages in a career. The grants also promote the exchange of experience and networking amongst colleagues.

The aim of this grant program is to support doctoral projects in Germany.



Who can apply?



Excellently-qualified young academics and scientists who have completed a Master's degree or Diploma, or in exceptional cases a Bachelor's degree at the latest by the time they begin their grant-supported research.

What can be funded?

Doctoral programs at a state or state-recognized institution of higher education or a non-university research institute in Germany:

Individual projects under the supervision of a university teacher or academic adviser
Participation in a structured doctoral study program.


Duration of the funding



A maximum of four years; the length of the grant is decided by a selection committee and depends on the project in question and the applicant's work schedule.
Grants are initially awarded for a maximum of one year. Extensions depend on whether the selection committee considers the previous award period to have been successfully completed.
For doctoral projects in Germany that require several years of research, research phases outside Germany can be supported if these are critical for the successful completion of the doctoral degree. Planned stays must be specified in the application in the work and time schedule and should not exceed a quarter of the anticipated total funding period.




Value of DAAD Scholarship:



1. Depending on academic level, monthly payments of:

· Euros 750. - For graduates,

· Euros 1,000. - For doctoral candidates

2. Payments towards health, accident and personal liability insurance cover

3. Travel allowance, unless these expenses are covered by the home country or another source of funding

4. One-off research allowance

5. Under certain circumstances, grant holders completing an uninterrupted stay of over 6 months may receive the following additional benefits:

· Monthly rent subsidy

· Monthly allowance for accompanying family members

To enable grant holders to improve their language skills in preparation for their stay in Germany, DAAD offers the following services:


· Payment of course fees for the online language course "Deutsch-University Online (DUO)" (www.deutsch-uni.com) for six months after receipt of the Scholarship Award Letter

· If necessary: Language course (2, 4 or 6 months) before the start of the research stay; the DAAD decides whether to fund the grant holder's participation and for how long depending on language skills and project. If a language course scholarship is granted and the working language at the host institute is German, participation is compulsory.

· Allowance for a personally chosen German language course during the grant period

· Reimbursement of the fees for the TestDaF test which has either been taken in the home country after receipt of the Scholarship Award Letter or in Germany before the end of the funding period

· As an alternative to the TestDaF for scholarship holders who have taken a language course beforehand: the fee for a DSH examination taken during the scholarship period may be reimbursed.

An independent selection committee consisting of specialist scientists reviews applications.
The most important selection criteria:

A convincing and well-planned research project or course of continuing education
Academic achievements


Additional documents that prove academic suitability or provide information about extracurricular activities will also be considered in the assessment.

Hayley Browning, from Essex, UK took to her Facebook page to share her breast cancer story with other women. The conventional advice is for women to check for lumps while standing but it didn't work for Hayley. She found a lump while lying down and it disappeared when she stood up...

Speaking to MailOnline she said:


'It was important to share my learning of also feeling for lumps lying down as this helped me find my lump early enough for it to be treatable. If I had only checked while standing up, I may have found it too late to be treatable. But that's something I don't even want to think about.'

Miss Browning 'burst into tears' when she discovered the lump three weeks ago. She said:

'I happened to rest my hand on my inner left breast and felt something that hurt and then felt it properly and realised it was a lump. I wasn't checking for lumps intentionally as I would usually do that in the shower.'

She panicked after making the discovery but drew strength from the support of her 28yr old boyfriend, Tom Austin.

Her mother booked an emergency doctor's appointment for the same day and she is set to undergo treatment.
Dr Jana Witt of Cancer Research UK said:

'It's important for women to get to know their breasts, and to talk to a doctor if they notice any unusual or persistent changes. There's no need to check them regularly in a set way or at a set time, just have a look and a feel every now and then and get to know what's normal for you.

'And it's not just about lumps. Other symptoms, such as a change in the size, shape or feel of a breast, skin changes such as dimpling or a rash, or changes to a nipple, could also be a sign of the disease. It's far more likely to be something less serious than cancer, but it's better to get checked out.'

Psychologist and behavioral expert Honey Langcaster James shares her advice on how to identify if you’re involved in an unhealthy relationship dynamic.


1. Your partner treats you much better in public.
Behind closed doors your partner is either rude, grumpy, always busy, emotionally unavailable or even overtly critical and hostile towards you, yet in front of others or outside the home they treat you much better.
This suggests that their image matters more to them than you do, and they know their behavior towards you is wrong. They're treating you with disrespect when they think they can get away with it.
2. You are preoccupied by thoughts of whether your partner loves you and whether you can trust them
Whilst some people are naturally a little more insecure than others, if you find yourself preoccupied and concerned about your relationship and whether your partner cares for you enough it suggests you are not getting enough emotional nourishment from your partner to help you feel safe and secure.
3. You find yourself 'snooping' and going through your partner's messages
If you feel overly suspicious and concerned that your partner might be hiding something, but talking about things isn't enough to reassure you, then you may have a trust problem within your relationship.
This might be because of your own insecurity or it might be because your partner is not being appropriately transparent and is giving you cause for concern.
4. You're told you're too sensitive or over-dramatic

5. Your partner frequently compares you to other women
If your partner makes frequent comparisons between you and his 'wonderful' ex or someone else perhaps, like his mother, or a friend's partner, saying that you should be/think/behave more like them, then this is obviously damaging to your self-esteem and sense of self-worth. Your partner should make you feel special, wonderful, and should far more commonly highlight your strengths rather than your weaknesses.
6. You feel as if your partner might abandon you if you do or say something they don't like
If the continuation of your relationship feels conditional, as if you'll be punished or cast aside if you fail to measure up, then you will not be able to relax and feel secure in your partner's presence and instead you'll feel like you have to perform and keep them happy. This is an uneven power balance within the relationship and it keeps you 'on your toes' working hard while your partner holds all the cards.
Eventually you'll end up exhausted or you'll put a foot wrong and you'll be rejected anyway, despite your best efforts, because secretly it's likely that your partner is either not willing, or is unable to genuinely love you.
7. When something goes well for you, you get the sense your partner is not actually pleased for you

8. Your partner never apologizes, or only ever says 'Sorry, but…'
The mark of a healthy relationship is one in which both parties are able to take responsibility for their mistakes and try to repair and make amends. If your partner never apologizes or only ever excuses their own thoughtless words or actions then they are not truly appreciating their impact upon you.
9. Your instincts tell you that something is 'off'
Sometimes you can't put your finger on exactly what is going on in your relationship, you just know that it's leaving you feeling unloved, insecure, suspicious, confused, unfulfilled or simply uncomfortable. Try to figure out the exact moments when you get that sinking feeling in your stomach or find yourself on the back foot trying to work out what's going on. Trust your instincts, if something feels wrong, then there's a good chance that it is, for you at least.
