Manchester United’s £35million bid for Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos has been rejected.

Madrid informed Ramos of their decision when chief executive Jose Angel Sanchez met the player and his representatives for summit talks at the club’s Valdebebas training headquarters.

Ramos, 29, left for a holiday telling the club that he wants his future resolved by the time the squad meet on July 10 before Real’s tour to Australia and China.

Liverpool have told Manchester City it will be a cash deal or no deal for England winger Raheem Sterling.

City are expected to make an increased offer for Sterling this week after an opening bid of £30m was knocked back at the weekend.

There have been suggestions that City striker Edin Dzeko may be used as a makeweight in the deal after the Bosnian slipped down the pecking order at City following the January arrival of Wilfried Bony.

Liverpool are in need of a good striker who can atleast nurture 25 goals a season, something they have lacked since the departure of Suarez. Dzeko is capable of delivering such for Liverpool should he be given a regular place at the team. Although, it remains to be seen if Dzeko himself is willing to join a team with no European competition next season and if he is willing, should Liverpool just forget about Sterling and sign Dzeko?

Manchester United have made a formal enquiry over the possibility of signing Zenit St. Petersburg star Axel Witsel,as Louis van Gaal roll on the search for an astute ball-winning midfielder. but have yet to lodge a proper bid.

According to reports emanating from Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello sport the Belgian midfielder has attracted interests from a host of top European clubs, with United, Chelsea and Italian giants Juventus all in the race to sign him.

Forget the Lionel Messi vs Cristiano Ronaldo debate, there is a new contender. Neymar has had a ridiculously brilliant season and has served up some special stuff in the Copa America already.

It’s a three-way tie at the top of world football for me now, and maybe Neymar has been up there for longer than we realise. Last summer at the World Cup was possibly the moment he arrived at that very top table to dine with the elite.

You only had to wander up the Copacabana during the tournament to see just how loved Neymar is by the Brazilian people. He is well and truly idolised. But with that love comes pressure and at the age of just 22 he carried the hopes of the nation. So no wonder he broke his back during the World Cup.

He was as well instrumental to Barca’s treble triumph this season. He contributed 39 goals to the trio’s tally of 122, and he was joint top-scorer in the Champions League.

On top of that, he has been a joy to watch. Yes there are goals, yes he can set up his team-mates, and yes he’s a winner. But he does it with tricks and style that lift him to that higher footballing ground. He’s a goalscorer, a team player and an entertainer.

You can only mention one player this season after Messi and Ronaldo. And that is Neymar of course, he should be in contention in this year’s Ballon d’or although Messi is widely tipped for the title but when you see a player at his age with such a huge responsibility and achievements, you definitely know he is up there among the best.

Unlike Messi and Ronaldo, Neymar performs so well for his country, and achieve more in country football than the two players. You never can tell, Neymar could be Next year’s Ballon d’or winner. Any doubt?
