Manchester United will finish in the top four under manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, says former team-mate and Wales boss Ryan Giggs.

Solskjaer, who signed a three-year contract on Thursday, took interim charge in December, since when United have lost just one of 13 league games.

Under the Norwegian, United have also reached the Champions League quarter-finals after beating Paris St-Germain.

“I’m delighted to see he has got the job permanently,” said Giggs.

“OK, the last two games haven’t gone to plan, (but) if you have the momentum that the team have at the moment, that’s all you want.

“It won’t be easy because there are some quality teams up there but with the players they’ve got and the momentum, I don’t see why we can’t get top four.”

Arsenal have announced they will face Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, during their pre-season tour across America this summer.

The Gunners will also lock horns with Roma in the International Champions Cup in July.

Unai Emery’s men will kick off their preparations ahead of the new season, with a game against Bayern Munich in Los Angeles on July 17.

Arsenal will then travel to North Carolina, to face Roma at the 75,000 capacity Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte on July 20.

And three days later, the Gunners will play Real Madrid at the FedExField in Washington DC.

Gunners managing director, Vinai Venkatesham, said:

“Everyone here at Arsenal is looking forward to taking part in the International Champions Cup again this summer.

“Our ICC matches in the United States in July will provide the team with a high level of preparation going into the 2019/20 season, and also give us the opportunity to play live in front of our many supporters across this great country.

“We are playing against three of Europe’s strongest and most high-profile club sides in magnificent stadiums, which will provide some very exciting matches ahead of our new season.”

Manchester United will announce the appointment of caretaker coach, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, as the club’s new permanent manager before the end of this week.

Daily Mail reports that Man United’s hierarchy have reportedly already stopped their search for a new permanent manager and now regards Solskjaer as their one and only candidate to take the job.

Solskjaer has won 10 out of the 13 Premier League games since his appointment as interim manager and reached the Champions League quarter-finals, where they will tackle Barcelona in April.

The Norwegian replaced the former Red Devils boss, Jose Mourinho last December.

The 46-year-old had said in January that he does not want to leave the Old Trafford club once his contract expires at the end of the season.

Solskjaer said:

“Of course, I won’t want to leave Man United, I don’t want to at the end of the season.

“It’s such a great bunch of players, atmosphere, but it’s the next game, it’s the next game, it’s the next game, and I’m doing my job as long as I’m here.

“I’m just thinking about the next game, because if you win four you can win another four with this club.

“That’s the challenge, that’s the standard we’re used to.”

Solskjaer’s men are currently in the fifth position on the Premier League table this season with 58 points from 30 games.

Manchester United striker, Marcus Rashford, has named Sergio Aguero as the Premier League’s most complete striker, despite him playing for their bitter rivals.

While Rashford has made waves in the Premier League, he doesn’t rank himself as the division’s best striker and he named Manchester City’s Aguero, Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane and Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as the three forwards who inspire him most.

“I think, probably the most all-round centre forward, is Sergio Agüero.

“Even on an off day, he can score you three or four goals. That, for me, is one trait of a centre forward that I would take all day long.

“When you’re not having a good game, but you’re still scoring goals. That is a skill on its own.

“Also Harry Kane, his positioning, his movement – very clever player. I like Aubameyang as well,” Rashford told GQ.
