Adamu said that the exercise would take place at various local government secretariats, and urged prospective voters to come in person as there would be no registration by proxy. The Plateau office of INEC said on Tuesday in Jos that 20,000 voter’s cards had been abandoned in its offices. “The cards have been there for years; their owners have not come for them. We are appealing to the owners to come for them,” Mr Abdulrahaman Adamu, the Administrative Secretary of the commission, said at a stakeholders’ meeting. He said that a 90-day voter’s registration exercise would commence on Thursday, April 27, and advised owners of the abandoned cards to use the opportunity to collect them. Adamu said that the exercise would take place at various local government secretariats, and urged prospective voters to come in person as there would be no registration by proxy. He also advised people against double registration, warning that the machines would detect such illegalities. The official advised people relocating to other areas to fill a transfer form to facilitate the relocation of their voting points. Adamu challenged parents, community leaders and politicians to ensured that underage persons were not allowed to register, and called for full support from all stakeholders toward success. President Donald Trump hinted at stipulations for the US deployment of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system that is being activated in South Korea. Trump said that he wanted South Korea to pay for the anti-missile defense system, which he estimates to cost $1 billion, and also intended to renegotiate or terminate a free-trade pact with the country because of a "deep trade decificit," Reuters reported. When asked when he planned on renegotiating the "horrible" trade agreement, he said, "Very soon. I'm announcing it now." However, South Korea's defense ministry rebuffed Trump's remarks, saying that there was no shift in the "basic position" and that the US should pay the cost of installing and operating the THAAD, as stated in the Status of Forces Agreement, Yonhap News reported on Friday. The defense ministry reiterated that South Korea merely provides land and supporting....... READ FULL STORY @ http://gobalarticle..com.ng/2017/04/politics-south-korea-rebuffs-trumps-1.html |

Canadian police said on Wednesday they are investigating whether a beating captured on video, reported to have been distributed through social networking site Facebook, may be connected to a young woman’s murder. The video is the latest example of Facebook being used to document violent crimes, a pattern that has led the company to re-evaluate some of its policies. A Facebook spokeswoman said the company could not locate the video and therefore could not comment. Thailand police on Wednesday said they would consider how to quickly remove inappropriate online content after a man broadcast himself killing his 11-month-old daughter on Facebook. Last week, the company said it was reviewing how it monitored violent footage after a posting of a fatal shooting in Cleveland, Ohio was visible for two hours. The Canadian video showed someone kicking a woman in the face while a second person held back her arm from defending herself, according to Winnipeg Free Press, and was shared through Facebook. Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Sgt. Paul Manaigre said police are reviewing the video to determine whether it is linked to a murder at Sagkeeng First Nation in Manitoba last weekend. It may have been shared directly between people on Facebook, but not posted for public viewing, he said. Reuters has not seen the video.... President Trump and the leaders of Mexico and Canada agreed Wednesday to renegotiate the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), the White House said Wednesday night. "it is my privilege to bring NAFTA up to date through renegotiation," Trump said in a statement. "It is an honor to deal with both [Mexican] President [Enrique] Peña Nieto and [Canadian] Prime Minister [Justin] Trudeau, and I believe that the end result will make all three countries stronger and better." The White House added that Trump "agreed not to terminate NAFTA at this time" and that all three leaders ""agreed to proceed swiftly, according to their required internal procedures, to enable the renegotiation" of the trade deal to "the benefit of all three countries." Trump repeatedly railed against the two-decade-old trade agreement on the campaign trail, describing it repeatedly as a "disaster." Earlier Wednesday, sources told Fox News that the White House had drafted a notification signaling the United States' intention to withdraw from NAFTA. The document would have given the leaders of Canada and Mexico six months' notice of the administration's decision to exit from the agreement. On Monday, the administration announced it would slap hefty tariffs on softwood lumber being imported from Canada. Trump has also been railing against changes in Canadian milk product pricing that he says are hurting the American dairy industry. Trump told The Associated Press in an interview last week that he plans to either renegotiate or .... A U.S. Navy guided-missile destroyer fired a warning flare toward an Iranian Revolutionary Guard vessel coming near it in the Persian Gulf, an American official said on Wednesday, the latest tense naval encounter between the two countries. The incident happened Monday as the vessel attempted to draw closer to the USS Mahan despite the destroyer trying to turn away from it, said Lt. Ian McConnaughey, a spokesman for the Bahrain-based 5th Fleet. The "Mahan made several attempts to contact the Iranian vessel by bridge-to-bridge radio, issuing warning messages and twice sounding the internationally recognized danger signal of five short blasts with the ship's whistle, as well as deploying a flare to determine the Iranian vessel's intentions," McConnaughey said in a statement to The Associated Press. The Iranian vessel came within 1,000 meters (1,100 yards) of the Mahan during the incident, the lieutenant said. The vessel later turned and sailed away. U.S. Holds War Games With Allies As North Korea Vows to Wipe Enemies Off the Earth Two warships of a major U.S. Navy formation joined Washington allies South Korea and Japan for simultaneous, bilateral military exercises Tuesday as tensions flared in the Asia-Pacific region. Miles in between the two war drills, North Korea held its own military tests in defiance of threats suggesting potential military action against the government of Kim Jong Un by President Donald Trump and his administration. The Navy's Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer Wayne E. Meyer conducted maritime military drills with South Korea's Chungmugong Yi Sun-sin-class multirole guided-missile destroyer Wang Geon in the waters west of the Korean Peninsula, according to a statement released Tuesday by the Navy's Seventh Fleet. At the same time, a second Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer, Fitzgerald, began naval exercises with Japan's Kongo-class guided-missile destroyer Chokai in the sea west of Japan. Both Navy ships were part of the Carl Vinson Carrier Strike group recently dispatched to the Western Pacific amid reports that North Korea may perform its sixth nuclear weapons test, something that the White House has vowed to prevent from happening. 10,000 years from now (assuming humans haven’t been wiped out by a plague, space rock, or our own destructive tendencies), it’ll probably be fairly easy for the average person to research what life was like in 2017. For us here today, finding out what life was like in 11,000BC is much more challenging, but by studying ancient stone carvings and pairing the somewhat confusing messages with archeological data, researchers believe they’ve discovered concrete evidence of an apocalyptic event that may have altered the future of mankind: a comet strike. The study, performed by a team of researchers from the University of Edinburgh (PDF), suggests that a potentially cataclysmic............. Kim Jong-un smiles and laughs while inspecting dead pigs during bizarre visit to North Korean abattoir The North Korean leader visited the Thaechon Pig Farm of the Korean People's Army in a show of support to his troops Kim Jong-un was pictured smiling and laughing alongside officials as he toured an abattoir on one of North Korea's many military bases. Two million of his subjects may be starving - but that seemed to be the last thing on the despot's mind when he visited the Thaechon Pig Farm, which supplies the country's army. Kim was snapped inspecting pig pens and carcasses following a UN report claiming millions of people living inside the world's most secretive state are struggling to survive on handouts. The daily ration includes just 650g of maize, rice or meat, according to the UN. North Korea arrests and detains US professor at airport as he attempts to leave secretive country Korean-American Tony Kim was at Pyongyang International Airport when he was arrested Kim Jong-Un North Korea has detained an American professor as he was attempting to leave the secretive country. Korean-American Tony Kim had spent a month teaching an accounting course at the Pyongyang University of Science and Technology (PUST), the university's chancellor, Chan-Mo Park said. Kim, who also goes by his Korean name Kim Sang-duk and is in his fifties, was detained by North Korean officials at Pyongyang International Airport as he attempted to leave the country, Park said. His arrest comes just hours after dictator Kim Jong-Un warned the country will wipe America "off the face of the Earth" after accusing the US of planning a chemical weapons attack. Park said he did not know the cause of Kim's arrest. He added: "But some officials at PUST told me his arrest was not related to his work at PUST. "He had been involved with some other activities outside PUST such as helping an orphanage." South Korea is in talks about holding joint drills with a U.S. aircraft carrier strike group, it said on Monday. The country's Defence Ministry spokesman Moon Sang-gyun gave no further details about the plans, other than saying Seoul was holding discussions with the U.S. Navy. "I can say the South Korean and U.S. militaries are fully ready for North Korea's nuclear test," he said. The U.S. President Donald Trump was also due to call Chinese President Xi Jinping after speaking with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe earlier that day, amid fears North Korea could conduct another nuclear test. North Korea said at the weekend it was ready to sink the U.S. aircraft carrier, which Trump had ordered to waters off the Korean peninsula as a warning to the North. And Japan said on Sunday it had sent two Japanese to join the carrier group, led by the USS Carl Vinson, for drills. Abe described his conversation with Trump as a "thorough exchange of views". He said: "We agreed to strongly demand that North Korea, which is repeating its provocation, show restraint. "We will maintain in close contact with the United States, keep a high level of vigilance and respond firmly." Abe also said he and Trump agreed that China, North Korea's neighbour and sole major ally, should play a large role in dealing with Pyongyang.
