⚡The US bond market is in serious trouble.

As new reports emerge of Iranian drone attacks on the UAE's energy infrastructure, yields are surging.

The 10Y Note Yield is now up to 4.45%, nearing the same level that resulted in the ceasefire and the April 2025 "90-day tariff pause."

Meanwhile, the market-implied BASE CASE now shows no interest rate cuts until December 2027.

There is now a 42% chance of a rate HIKE by March 2027.

It appears that $5/gallon gas prices and 7%+ mortgages are on the way.

⚡Indonesia sets sights on turning Bali into major global financial hub.

The idea is to create “a special financial center” in Bali, boosting Indonesia’s status as a "safe haven for international capital" amid mounting geopolitical instability.

🟠 The proposed center could be integrated into the Kura Kura Bali Special Economic Zone (SEZ), which has already racked up about $93 million in investments and created over 2,100 jobs.

🟠 Adding to the project could be the Sanur SEZ, slated to become a “world-class healthcare destination” — one that has already drawn $309 million from foreign investors.

🟠 The Bank Indonesia Bali Representative Office has hailed both SEZs as "the foundation for investment growth in Bali" and "accelerators" for the island's economy.

🟠 Overall, foreign direct investment inflows to Indonesia hit a whopping $14.4 billion in 1Q 2026.

⚡Hezbollah urges Lebanon gov’t to declare US ambassador ‘persona non grata’.

Lebanese lawmaker Ali Ammar, representing Hezbollah, has urged Lebanese authorities to declare the US ambassador “persona non grata” after the envoy suggested that those who offended a senior Christian religious leader should leave the country.

The controversy erupted on Saturday after a video published by Lebanese television channel LBCI caricatured Hezbollah leaders and fighters as characters from the “Angry Birds” game.

Hezbollah supporters condemned the video and some reacted by sharing images insulting Maronite Patriarch Beshara Rai, which sparked support for the head of Lebanon’s most influential Christian sect.

Appleyard:
The author really hits the nail on the head regarding how global power is shifting from the west to the east. What a time to be alive.

While most of us here, howbeit with good reasons, are quick to lambast China for its pacifism in the wake of US geopolitical criminality and suppressive military overtures aimed at stifling China's inevitable rise to global superpower status, we do not give Beijing enough credit on how it is also going about winning the economic war without firing a single bullet.

For a long time, the U.S. dollar has been the big boss because everyone had to use what the author rightfully termed "American plumbing" to move money for oil,China is now building its own pipes. They aren’t just buying oil; they are setting up systems like CIPS and the digital yuan so countries can trade without even touching a dollar.

Here is the catch: if you build your own road, you no go need pay toll for another person gate again, and that is exactly what China is doing to bypass U.S. control.

I said in a previous post that the Eldridge Colby's strategy of Denial that the current Trump administration is acting out in its crude form is myopic and lack foresight. What is the strategy? It is an "American first" security and economic strategy that seek to counter China in the Indo Pacific while ensuring that the US has no opposition and counter threat down the entire length of the Western hemisphere. Thus, Venezuela, Cuba, Greenland, and Iran etc, are pieces on the chessboard of that strategy. But there is one great folly that underlines this strategy. It is built on the assumption that the US military might and soft power deployed will prevail and will face very little to no resistance from the pieces on the chessboard and from the main target itself (China). It also failed to consider and adequately prepare for the side effects it will generate when acted upon. In fact, the Colby's strategy is atypical of all US and MAGA foreign policies driven by arrogance, audacity and pride that never consider its own decline and the inevitability in global strategic changes. Hence, the shocker when Iran resisted, and the financial drives currently in motion across the globe and in the Middle East are parts of the geopolitical tectonic shifts this strategy did not foresee. But, as usual, when arrogance and pride runs the show, pragmatic reason and logic takes the back seat, and that is exactly what is going on right now with the US in the wake of Iran and the ME. Like the arrogant fly, it will go down to the grave, but in this case, with the pieces and the target (God forbid).

This current financial arrangement is a massive threat to the dollar's dominance because the U.S. has used its currency as a weapon through sanctions, making other countries nervous. Now, places like Riyadh are quietly building parallel systems so they have a backup plan. China is winning this economic war by being patient and making sure the infrastructure is ready before they make a move. This is one thing a lot of us do not consider when attacking China.

Military might alone do not win economic wars. You need the proper and adequate financial infrastructure in place that will ensure control and autonomy, if you want to wade off the hegemon. China is doing a great job in that regard.

The way they are moving, with BRICS and SCO infrastructure in place attracting more attention every year, Beijing just dey wait for the right time to flip the switch while the U.S. is still focused on the old way of doing things.

By 2026 ending, we’re and would be looking at a world where China and the Gulf states are way more integrated, potentially moving billions of dollars away from American assets. China is also leading in green tech and the Belt and Road Initiative, which ties more countries to their economy through physical and digital "moats". It’s a slow-motion change, but it’s real. No one dey expect say Uncle Sam go fall in few years time, but once that new plumbing is fully installed, the dollar might find itself being the unnecessary system the author talks about.

Time is everyone's friend and foe. Let's wait for it.
