⚡️ Last October, 🇺🇦 Ukrainian special forces attempted to recapture the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant from 🇷🇺 Russian troops who had held it for over six months. The Times has revealed that over 30 ships, armed with weapons provided by Western allies, were involved in the secret operation, which involved a raid by a team of 600 commandos. The 🇺🇦 Ukrainian special forces, military intelligence, and naval personnel involved in the attack have now disclosed the details of the failed operation to The Times. The team boarded a 40-foot armor-piercing patrol boat, taking up positions on three heavy machine guns and an Mk19 automatic grenade launcher. The order was to begin an infantry-only assault on the power plant from the opposite bank, but they were met with unexpected resistance from Russian tanks and artillery. Himars missiles provided by the 🇺🇸 US crashed into 🇷🇺 Russian positions on the river bank. A US defense source confirmed that the Ukrainian special forces had been given intelligence "for urgent use" to locate targets for the missile strikes. Only a handful of Ukrainian special forces managed to reach the shore by dawn, and a three-hour firefight ensued. Tragically, most of the main forces could not swim and were unable to make it to shore. Larger boats maneuvered to attack Energodar from the opposite flank, but the constant barrage of fire forced all the Ukrainians to retreat. 🇺🇦 Kiev has never acknowledged the attack on the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, but the revelations from The Times paint a picture of a covert and ultimately unsuccessful operation that could have had catastrophic consequences if it had succeeded.
