Two 🇺🇸 Mississippi National Guardsmen died after a two-seat U.S. military attack helicopter crashed on Friday during a routine training flight in Mississippi, Governor Tate Reeves said.

The crash of the AH-64 Apache helicopter happened at 2 p.m. Central Time (2000 GMT).

"Tragically, both Guardsmen on board did not survive. Safety crews are currently working the scene of the crash with local authorities," Reeves said.

The incident comes on the heels of a Feb. 6 Marine helicopter crash in a remote area outside of San Diego that killed five Marines who had been on a training flight during a fierce winter storm.

Shortly before the crash, at least two wind gusts measuring 21 mph were registered in Booneville, according to National Weather Service data. The temperature was 64 degrees.

On Feb. 6, a CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter traveling from Creech Air Force Base, Nevada, to Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, California, crashed amid a winter storm, killing all five U.S. Marines on board, officials said.

And in April 2023, two U.S. Army AH-64 Apache helicopters returning to Fort Wainwright in Fairbanks, Alaska, after a training flight collided, killing three soldiers and injuring a fourth, the 11th Airborne Division said.

🇷🇺 Russian President Vladimir Putin donned a pilot dress and took the pilot seat of a Tu-160M hi-tech supersonic strategic bomber fighter jet on Thursday to personally check the quality of its modernization.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters in Russia's southwestern city of Kazan that the head of state arrived on the runway of the Kazan Aviation Plant dressed as a pilot and took the pilot's seat.

"The flight will last some 40 minutes. The route of the flight is a state secret," Peskov said.



Tu-160m is a supersonic, variable-sweep wing heavy strategic bomber, called in Russia "White Swan," in NATO -- "Blackjack," it is designed to hit targets in remote areas with nuclear and conventional weapons.

Tu-160m strategic bomber is the largest supersonic aircraft in the history of military aviation and the heaviest combat aircraft in the world.

Putin has already flown several military planes, including fighter jets. Moreover, he has already flown the previous model of the Tu-160 bomber in August 2005.

Polish reporters observed what they described as significant developments during recent protests held by local farmers.

The focus of their attention wasn’t solely on the farmers’ demands to prohibit the “overland grain deal,”which involves the disposal of Ukrainian grain on roadways and railway tracks.

Rather, it was the slogans displayed on the agricultural equipment of the demonstrators that garnered notice.

Among the observations made by reporters from the newspaper Voter, one tractor prominently displayed the flag of the late, and generally unlamented, Soviet Union.

Additionally, a poster affixed to the tractor bore a message directed to Russian President Vladimir Putin, urging him to intervene in Ukraine and Brussels to restore order.

The inscription on the poster read: “Putin, put things in order in Ukraine, in Brussels, and in our government.”

Media accounts have characterised this as an “isolated case,” emphasising that the majority of protesters do not align with such sentiments.

Some Polish citizens have expressed concerns in online discussions, labeling calls to the Russian President amidst the farmers’ strike as provocative.

It is pertinent to note that the protest activity has led to disruptions in freight traffic between Ukraine and Poland.

Allegations have emerged from Ukrainian volunteers, who claim that Polish farmers are obstructing the import of military equipment into Ukrainian territory.

Tractors and associated equipment have reportedly remained stationary at the border for multiple days, contributing to the logistical challenges arising from the protest.

President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday that Russian scientists were close to launching vaccines for cancer that could soon be available to patients.

Putin said in televised comments that "we have come very close to the creation of so-called cancer vaccines and immunomodulatory drugs of a new generation".

"I hope that soon they will be effectively used as methods of individual therapy," he added, speaking at a Moscow forum on future technologies.

Putin did not specify which types of cancer the proposed vaccines would target, nor how.

A number of countries and companies are working on cancer vaccines. Last year the UK government signed an agreement with Germany-based BioNTech to launch clinical trials providing "personalized cancer treatments", aiming to reach 10,000 patients by 2030.

Pharmaceutical companies Moderna and Merck & Co are developing an experimental cancer vaccine that a mid-stage study showed cut the chance of recurrence or death from melanoma - the most deadly skin cancer - by half after three years of treatment.

There are currently six licensed vaccines against human papillomaviruses (HPV) that cause many cancers, including cervical cancer, according to the World Health Organization, as well as vaccines against hepatitis B (HBV), which can lead to liver cancer.

During the coronavirus pandemic, Russia developed its own Sputnik V vaccine against COVID-19 and sold it to a number of countries, although domestically it ran up against widespread public reluctance to get vaccinated.

Putin himself said he had taken Sputnik, in a bid to assure people of its efficacy and safety.
