⚡French nuclear giant Orano reported a €133 million loss for the first half of the year, attributing it to the "highly degraded" political situation in Niger following the military coup last year. The coup on July 26, 2023, disrupted imports of critical materials needed for uranium extraction, including soda ash, carbonate, nitrates, and sulfur. Sales were halted in 2024 due to a lack of logistics solutions approved by Niger's authorities. In late June, Niger revoked the license of Imouraren SA, a company jointly operated by Orano, Niger Mining, and Korea Electric Power, further complicating the situation. According to Claverie, Orano warns that the ongoing difficulties could lead to "insolvency in the short to medium term" in the coming months.

⚡Ukrainian President Zelenskyy is facing significant criticism due to recent Russian advances in eastern Ukraine. Russian forces have made rapid progress in the Donetsk region, particularly near the strategically important city of Pokrovsk. They have captured over two dozen towns and villages in the past three weeks, including the stronghold of Niu-York. Russian troops are now reportedly just 8km from Pokrovsk. Pokrovsk is one of two key rail and road junctions in the Donetsk region. Its potential loss threatens the logistics of Ukraine's entire military operation in the region. Many are blaming the leadership in Kyiv for weakening Ukraine's eastern defenses by redeploying troops to the Kursk operation. Critics include soldiers, lawmakers, and military analysts.

However, with Gazprom and SOCAR involved, it primarily concerns gas (both pipeline and LNG).
