Thank you for your questions, I will try and answer each

1. why parallel/series?

Ans: Panels can be connected in either manner, depending on the capacity of your charge controller and also the specifications of your panels. i.e, if your controller @ 24v only allows 100v @peak, you can first connect your panels e.g 350watts in series of 2, which will give you about 75-80v at peak, but since the 2 panels wont produce the total amps that will fully charge the batteries effectively and since you can't connect 3panels in series since your pVolt will exceed your controller requirement, you can connect 2 in series which gives you +/-80.
when you do this in 2 places in series, you can parallel both to still give you same volt, but increase charging amps.

2. how do you know which one suits your setup? This has been treated above, you can read up how to calculate your panel size and choice. That said the panel requirement is a factor of the numbers/size of the batteries you want to install.

3. Both statement in 3 can be true, the higher your panels the faster it charges the batteries. Its more like a case of fetching water from a river vs fetching from a tap. We all know fetching from the river will be faster when you deep in your bucket.

4. store energy on the battery? The job of the panels is to charge the batteries, not store energy. The same job your NEPA/gen light does is the same the panels do. Just that this time, it uses the power from the sun. Another job of the solar panel is that it can work directly with DC load or equipments, but it can fluctuate since the sun is never stable all tru the day.

5. how will a 2pcs of 680w panel fit in? this has been explained and solved above, however your batteries @230ah is 2760*2=5520w
