CultureCan A Nigerian Man Be Happy With An English Wife? by yvskc(op): 3:52am On Feb 03, 2008
This question troubles me a lot as I am English (mixed race),and married to an Igbo man. He is the best, and we are in love.

Sometimes I worry that he will tire of a wife who does not speak his mother tongue. I would also love to be able to talk to his family in Igbo and not English. In other ways I embrace the culture by cooking the food, wearing the traditional dress etc.

Hello to one and all. I am a London born Jamaican/Irish lady married to an Igbo man.
When I travelled to Igboland everyone said I was welcome, and I hope I am welcome here.
It is nice to be here smiley
CultureRe: Igbo Names & Their Meanings by yvskc(f): 12:13am On Feb 03, 2008
Hi I am English too married to an Igbo man.Well when I say I'm English,I mean that I was born in England and live here, but am of mixed parentage (jamaican/Irish and Welsh)
Our son is called Chibuike full name is Chukwubuikem (God is my strength). My husband chose the name and I am proud of it,as a mixed race woman living in a white country I know how important identity is. I consider myself black, and a lost African. My true name and heritage was stolen when my ancestors were taken to Jamaica and rather than feel like a victim I am re-claiming it through my children.
My husband calls me Onyinyechi (gift from God) .
Aside from names there are other aspects of raising a child that you may have to consider, for example circumcision. Our son was circumcised at 4 weeks old and although I'm glad it is done now, at the time I did feel guilty for putting him through that as culturally it was alien to me.
All the best smiley
