European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Chelsea Vs Bolton Wanderers: Capital One Cup (2 - 1) On 24th September 2014 by zagazigi(op): 8:57pm On Sep 22, 2014
Ramires has a muscle problem and will miss Chelsea's Capital One Cup third-round tie against Bolton.

Diego Costa is unlikely to be risked after recently returning from a hamstring injury but goalkeeper Petr Cech could start as manager Jose Mourinho plans to rotate his squad.

Bolton have signed utility player Chris Herd on a six-week loan from Aston Villa and he is free to face Chelsea.

Fellow newcomers Paddy Kenny and Max Clayton could also make their debuts.
MATCH PREVIEW

Derided at the weekend as "a small team", Chelsea resume their more typical status as heavyweight favourites for the visit of Championship strugglers Bolton.

The odds are stacked heavily against a Wanderers side with just one league win from eight matches and who had to come from behind to beat lower-league opposition in extra-time in the previous two rounds of the League Cup.

Nonetheless, Chelsea are giving Bolton the respect they felt was lacking when Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini made his post-match comments on Sunday.

"It's a game we have to be wary of, give full respect to the opposition," said Chelsea assistant manager Steve Holland. "We had an experience against Swindon, who were League One, last season that was uncomfortable. We survived it.

"You underestimate clubs and teams in a lower league at your peril. You'll be in trouble if that's the case."
MATCH FACTS
Head-to-head

Chelsea have won their last nine matches against Bolton in all competitions and are unbeaten in 18 since a 2-1 Premier League home defeat in December 2003 (D3, L15).
Didier Drogba scored when the two sides last met at Stamford Bridge in February 2012. The Blues won 3-0 in the Premier League.
Their most recent League Cup meeting came in October 2009, when Chelsea won 4-0 to reach the fifth round.

Chelsea

The Blues have progressed in seven of their last eight third-round ties, keeping a clean sheet in each of the matches in which they made the next round.
Chelsea have only won two of their last three home matches in the League Cup, losing to Newcastle in 2010-11, Liverpool in 2011-12 and Swansea in the 2012-13 semi-final first leg.

Bolton Wanderers

Bolton's last three League Cup ties have all gone to extra time. They lost on penalties to Tranmere last season but have beaten lower league Bury and Crewe to reach the third round in the current campaign.
The Trotters have lost all four of their away matches in the league this season, only scoring once.

SportsObafemi Martins Seeks Nigeria Recall by zagazigi(op): 9:26am On Sep 15, 2014
The Seattle Sounders star has revealed that he will gladly accept invitation from national team selectors to play for the country following his impressive performance in the MLS
Nigeria international Obafemi Martins has said that he would be honoured to get a recall to play for the Super Eagles.

The Seattle Sounders forward who got his 13th goal of the season in Sounder’s 3-2 home victory over Real Salt Lake on Friday has only been invited twice in the last three years.

Martins who has never hidden his passion to play for the Eagles feels his invitation will only be justified if he continues with his inspiring showing in the Major Soccer League.

"I said at the start of the season if I was doing well for Seattle and scoring goals, I’d have a chance with Nigeria,” he told BBC Sport.

"But firstly, I want to play regularly here and try to help Seattle Sounders win a trophy.”

The weapon of mass destruction however hopes he can earn him a place in the squad for October’s double header against Sudan with qualification for the 2015 African Cup of Nations looking very slim.

"It’s the coach’s decision to invite players but if I can get a recall to the national team, I’ll be honoured,” he added.

"I just need to continue my form here in the United States, give my all to this club and let other things happen naturally.

"I love my country and I always want Nigeria to do well with me in the squad or not.

"If I get another chance, great, and if not, I can only wish my country all the best,” he concluded.

He has played 39 games for Nigeria scoring 18 goals in the process.
