Four men were, yesterday, arraigned by the Police in an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court in Lagos for allegedly operating an illegal drug factory and manufacturing fake drugs.

The accused namely Emeka Madu, 47; Eze Young, 26; Chijoke Umunna, 19; and Kingsley Obilor, 22, are standing trial on a three-count charge of conspiracy, unlawful manufacturing of drugs and operation of illegal drug factory. The Police prosecutor, Peter Nwangwu told the court that the accused persons committed the offences on December 13, 2018 at 2, Okunneye Street, Ikotun-Egbe, a Lagos suburb. Nwangwu said that the accused persons conspired with others now at large to commit the crime. Nwangwu alleged that Madu, sometimes in 2014, unlawfully acquired two tablet machines, two blister machines and other equipment for the purpose of operating an illegal drug factory without license or any formal training. It was gathered that the accused persons were earlier arrested by the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) on Nov.23 2018. According to the police, the factory was raided by IRT and the four accused persons were arrested. The Force Headquarters spokesman, Jimoh Moshood, said Madu was the owner of the factory known as Cabara. Moshood said the operatives received credible intelligence report and acted on it in uncovering the hidden fake factory where substantial production, packaging and distribution of suspected fake drugs to different parts of the country was being carried out. “The police recovered cartons of different fake drugs, large quantity of unprocessed chemical substances used in manufacturing drugs, machines for processing, manufacturing and packaging of these drugs as well as forged pharmaceutical papers. “Plastic buckets of different types suspected to contain fake drugs were also recovered,” Moshood said The prosecutor said that the offences contravened the provisions of sections, 160 (1), (a), (b), 252 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. After the charges were read to the accused persons, they pleaded not guilty. In her ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs Yewande Aje-Afunwa, admitted the four accused persons to a bail of N1million each with two responsible sureties each in like sum. Aje-Afunwa ordered that one of the sureties must be a blood relation to the accused persons. She added that the sureties must be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government as part of the bail conditions.

Oh Lord give us thy will and might to withstand nepotism, lack of regard for the rules of law the hope of the common man, starvation in the land, youths roaming the streets aimlessly without direction due to bad governance.

But no matter how surmounting can submerge the desire total freedom and victory on February 16, 2019 when Nigeria goes to the poll to elect another president to salvage the situation of the Nigeria Nation that has been passing through severe problems of poverty in the land as has never before in the history of Nigeria.
Nigeria is now a country whereby those who work hard are the poor men and women and the children in public schools financed by government have no good education and the children of the rich men and women are in the private schools and sadly enough the best brains are from poor homes.  What a pity and agony of a Nation?

Talking of leadership, no leader ever succeeds unless he is ahead of generation.  No leader ever succeeds unless he has something to give.  No leader ever gives what he doesn't have.  Nigeria’s emphasis has been on travail the mundane that blinds us.  Today the talk is on religion, tomorrow the talk is on tribe and the ideas of the masses are suffering.  Slogan alone is the not the answer.  Let the whistle blow because there is no one to save you and I situation.  The most high is the only remedy.  Progressives and technocrats are the remedy.  ATIKU TAKING NIGERIA OUT OF THE WILDERNESS IN 2019? Nigeria masses and history will definitely and absolutely tell…

Nigerian leaders should imbibe the habit of leaving when the ovation is loudest in  order to write their names in the annals history of Nigeria like the likes of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, General Absalami Abubakar (rtd) and former President Goodluck Aebele Jonathan who despite their in position to perpetrate themselves in power refused to for the sake of Nigerian masses

HealthOne Dead, Many Injured As Train Derails In Lagos by zeezco11(op): 1:26pm On Jan 11, 2019
One person died when a train derailed yesterday, at Ashade Railway Crossing, Agege, Lagos, with several passengers sustaining injuries. train Passenger train derails at Agege in Lagos Lagos Railway District Manager of Nigerian Railway Corporation, NRC, Mr. Jerry Ochi, confirmed that the victim died at NRC Hospital, Ebute Meta, while receiving treatment. Oche said: “Causality is one person, as at the last check with, several injured.” The train, with over 2,000 passengers, was en route Ebute-Meta via Oshodi from Iju, when three of the coaches derailed from on reaching a degraded portion of the rail line at Agege, which was allegedly neglected by the Nigeria Railway Corporation. It was gathered that the trapped passengers, who struggled to get out from the coaches, got injured in the process. Eyewitnesses said those who hung on top the affected coaches sustained severe injuries as they were flung in different directions due to the impact of the accident. One of the passengers, a pregnant woman, who identified herself as Mrs Modinat Ismaila, had bruises on her face and arms, while her five-year-old baby had a swollen jaw. Ismaila said “I did not know how it happened because I was sleeping. I was jolted from sleep by the loud noise, by the time I opened my eyes, the whole place was in disarray, as other passengers were struggling to jump out. “One of the men, who saw my condition, attempted to help me out through one of the openings. But as I was about carrying my child, other people shoved me out of the way, causing me to fall. “But the Good Samaritan lifted me up and struggled his way to the entrance, where he asked me to jump out. As he was about coming out with my daughter, other passengers pushed them, causing my daughter to fall, hitting her head on the ground. But for the Good Samaritan, the injury would have been more severe. Another passenger, Chijioke Nwadi, said: “I was inside the coach directly behind the one that derailed. It caused ours to swerve vigorously.

I jumped out because I was close to the door. Fortunately for me, I only sustained bruises on my knee. I was among those who helped the trapped passengers out. One of them was an old man. He was motionless when he was brought out. There was no phone on him to contact members of his family. Immediately the incident occurred, we started contacting our loved ones and relevant agencies to come to the aid of trapped passengers. When Vanguard got to the scene, efforts were on to evacuate the three affected coaches. Some personnel from various security agencies were on ground to cordon off the area, maintain law and order while the injured were rushed to hospitals in the neighbourhood for treatment. Giving a situation report on the incident, General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Adesina Tiamiyu, said a preliminary investigation revealed that the train derailed as a result of faulty tracks. The agency explained that the faulty tracks had been reported by men of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority in the area, which was said to have been slated for engineering works later yesterday. Adesina said LASEMA and other relevant agencies of the state government would soon have stakeholders’ meeting with the Nigeria Railway Corporation management on the way to avert future occurrence. However, Lagos Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, NRC, Ms Khadijat Aroyewun, who described the situation as unfortunate, however, denied the allegation that they neglected the rail tracks. She said:” Our engineers do checks on the track every day before the trains go out to ascertain the viability of the track. So no track has been neglected to be maintained. We are still investigating the accident. The report of the investigation will be made public.” This was corroborated by the Lagos Railway District Manager of Nigerian Railway Corporation, Mr. Jerry Ochi, who said that a panel has been set up to investigate the remote cause of the crash “A panel has been set up to investigate the remote cause of the accident to avoid future occurrence and punish if lapses or negligence observed on the part of the staff.”

The Academic Staff Union of Universities says it is yet to conclude consultations with its members on the possible agreement presented by the Federal Government.

ASUU President, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, who spoke in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday in Abuja, said the union was still consulting.

NAN recalled that the Minister of Labour and Employment, Sen. Chris Ngige, on Monday met with the striking lecturers at a reconciliatory meeting.

Ngige said some agreement had been reached, that the Federal Government had released N15.4 billion for the payment of the salary shortfalls, which was one of the major demands of the union.

“On the issue of salaries in tertiary institutions, especially in universities, the Ministry of Finance and the Office of the Accountant- General provided evidence that as of Dec. 31, 2018, the Federal Government had remitted N15.4 billion.

“Also on the issue of Earned Allowances in the universities system, they also showed us evidence that Mr President has approved the N20 billion to be used to offset the outstanding arrears of the 2009 and 2012 audit verified earnings, in the university system,” he said.

The minister, however, said that the fund was being worked on, and would be released to ASUU as soon as the process was completed.

Ngige also told the striking workers to take the possible agreement reached back to their members and should get back to Federal Government on Thursday, Jan. 10 for possibly calling off the strike embarked upon since Nov. 4, 2018.

According to the ASUU president, the strike is still on.

He said, “So, we are still consulting and will be getting back to the Federal Government today.”

The Frenchman could be on his way to London to replace Morata.

Chelsea are keen on a move for Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema, according to the Mirror.

The 31-year-old has notched seven goals and three assists in his 18 La Liga appearances so far this season, and some bookies have suspended betting on the striker's move to Stamford Bridge.

The Blues are hoping to replace Alvaro Morata, who still looks short of confidence despite scoring twice against Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup, and the Spaniard has been linked with a move to Sevilla.

The United Nations says Nigeria lost an estimated 2.8 billion dollars in revenues in 2018, mainly due to oil-related crimes.

This is according to a new ‘Report by the Secretary-General on the activities of the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel’ on Monday in New York.

The report, which covered from July 1, 2018 to December 31, 2018, said “Maritime crime and piracy off the coast of West Africa continued to pose a threat to peace, security and development in the region.

“Oil-related crimes resulted in the loss of nearly 2.8 billion dollars in revenues last year in Nigeria, according to government figures.

“Between January 1 and November 23, there were 82 reported incidents of maritime crime and piracy in the Gulf of Guinea.’’

The report also noted that compared to the situation reflected in the previous report, there was an increase in drug trafficking throughout West Africa and the Sahel.

“In Benin, the Gambia and Nigeria, more than 50 kilogrammes of cocaine were seized between July and October by joint airport interdiction task forces.

“During the same period, joint airport interdiction task forces seized more than six kilogrammes of methamphetamines, eight kilogramme of heroin (double the amount in the first half of 2018) and 2.6 tonnes of cannabis.

“Drug production across the region was also reportedly on the rise, with more than 100 kilogrammes of ephedrine and phenacetin seized by competent authorities,’’ the report said.

CrimeI Was Under My Enemies’ Spell –cleric Who Raped Girl, Five by zeezco11(op): 1:31pm On Jan 05, 2019
Abdulsalam Salaudeen, a 43-year-old Islamic cleric in Igando, Lagos State, who was arrested for allegedly raping his five-year-old Arabic schoolgirl, has owned up to committing the crime.

The father of five blamed the crime on the handiwork of his enemies whom he said had cast a spell on him.

Salaudeen, in an interview withCity Round during the week, claimed that he had been having a running battle with spiritual forces for years.

He said on Friday, December 28, 2018 when the incident happened at a section of the Arabic school on Awoyemi Street, Igando Road, he fought the devil back and forth by saying aausubillahi (God forbid) to no avail.

The native of Oyo State explained that he was accused of raping a girl in his class some years ago when he was living at Ikotun, a neighbouring community, adding that shame forced him to relocate to Igando. “It is the work of the devil,” he said in Yoruba, burying his head in his right palm.

He went on, “I have been living in Lagos for 25 years. I have a wife and five children. My wife and three of the children live with me. My wife does not deny me of sex. The girl was brought for Arabic class about five months ago. On that day, I asked her to go and sweep a section of the class. The place was separated by a wall and I followed her. I asked her to stand on a bench and face the wall. I rolled up her skirts and removed her panties. As I wanted to penetrate her from the anus, I said ‘aausubillahi, aausubillahi (God forbid)’. It was the devil that pushed me to it. My penis only grazed her private parts.

“While I was living in Ikotun, I was accused of raping one of the children attending my class. But I did not rape the girl. She needed a uniform we used in the class and I took her to a tailor to take her measurements. I have been battling with spiritual wars since then. My enemies are many and they have been casting spells on me. I relocated to Igando and started a new Arabic class.”

Salaudeen stated he had regretted his action, noting that he was shocked when he was confronted with a video clip, showing how he molested the girl.

Our correspondent learnt that a neighbour had gone to see Salaudeen at his class recently when he stumbled on him handling the victim. The neighbour was said to have left unknown to Salaudeen.

A police source told City Round that the neighbour reported the case to a child rights’ organisation in the community and he was advised to do a secret video next time he caught the cleric in the act.

“The informant was asked to do a video to get evidence that could nail the cleric. He was well respected in the community and he could have easily denied the allegation. Many people would also not believe he could do such a thing without the video,” the source added.

While speaking about the incident, the spokesperson for the police in the state, CSP Chike Oti, said Salaudeen was arrested after the informant reported the crime at the command headquarters in Ikeja with the video clip.

Oti said, “On Friday, December 28, 2018, a good Nigerian visited the headquarters of the Lagos State Police Command with a video evidence of an Islamic cleric, aka Alfa, having anal sex with a five-year-old girl that he was supposed to be teaching Islamic studies. The complainant sought audience with the state Commissioner of Police, CP Edgal Imohimi.

“The CP, after watching the heartrending video, directed the command’s undercover operatives attached to the State Intelligence Bureau to immediately arrest the culprit and hand him over to the Gender Section for detailed investigation. The operatives went in search of the Alfa and arrested him near a mosque in the Igando area of the state.”

Oti explained that the suspect initially denied the allegation when he was grilled at the Gender unit, noting that he, however, owned up to committing the crime after the Officer-in-Charge of the unit, ASP Abimbola Williams, confronted him with the video of him defiling the child by penetrating her anus and private parts.

“On seeing how he was captured like an actor in a movie, the suspect broke down in tears and owned up to committing the crime. The case will be charged to court soon,” Oti added.

The CP commended the informant and warned parents and guardians to keep constant watch over their children and wards. Imohimi urged parents not to trust their children with anybody and to be friendly with them.
