Bro, some of them wants to stay in an area where things are happening or living close to other Nigerians. That's where competition starts from and they unknowingly spend more to live up to expectations. SMH

I think rent is cheaper up North of England. Meanwhile, a lot of people just see England as the whole of UK. Northern Ireland is a cool place from my research, cheaper cost of living and of course will have its own challenges. My 2cents

N 300k? How will you save that as a family with kids in Nigeria.
The reason why most people can't save in UK is when they start to compete with their unreasonable fellow blacks. Is it by force to show off?
You are in a foreign country, so all your mind should be how to save as much as possible to invest in Nigeria for extra income and not living an expensive life.
Wo, I'm tired of these people

Pls I would need your email for private discussion and guide. Thank you

Read back and you'll see someone who got a 3bedroom apartment for £700-£750 in Manchester, there are some inner city part where you won't get it at that price. You'll be having nothing less than £1500.

Just because there are apartments rented for 5M naira per annum in Island doesn't mean you won't get an apartment rented for less than 2M nairaalso It's a simple logic, rural and urban areas.

But because your friend in UK told you he couldn't get it at that price, you believe it's impossible for every other person. Your matter taya me

Bros I taya for some people too. In Enugu here, there are places you rent a flat as high as ₦1m/yr and there are places you can get for 400k/yr which is still nice. You live you life according to your target. Everybody can never be the same. If what you what is high life you go for it while the other concentrates on other things which is their target. Am sure some people in UK have money to buy car but did not buy while some bought and later they will be complaining of tax that comes with having a car. Did the English government force you to own a car? You want to live big so you pay for it.

That's life for you oo. Take my case for example.
I worked in a very big place in Nigeria. I stayed in a mini flat paying N300k/month. Driving a 2003 car.
Many people make jest of me, infact it got to a point that I stopped keeping friends because they could not believe that's the life I was living.
I was able to save much and move my family out of the country without anyone's help except God.

I believe anyone can do anything with determination.
Don't follow the crowd.

I know a friend who got a 2bdrm house for £500 in Durham and they are fine.

Cut your coat according to your cloth.

Exactly, He thinks all Nigerians in uk are all care giver or factory workers. Care giver job isn’t a bad job even working in a factory isn’t, I believe there is dignity in labour.

Just upgrade yourself professionally and you’ll get a job that pays well, there are Nigerians doing professional jobs earning £250-300 daily in Uk

3k per month is about 750 per between the couple. Are you saying that a couple's combined income for a week can't be up to £750?
emperorlaqrin:

How do you want to make 3k with a student visa ?

Anyway you can only work for 20hours while your wife work full time. During your schooling period you both cannot make 3k after tax and neither can your wife do a double job so the 3k is not visible.

£800 for 2 bedroom apartment grin.... see this clown. Tell me you've never been to UK without telling me you've not been to UK

It's quite misleading making such generalisations. A friend is paying 650 pounds for a two bedroom apartment in South Wales. Another is paying 500 pounds in Bolton. Not bills inclusive though

shout out to us in the construction industry winning daily

emperorlaqrin:
The high cost of accommodation in an area like London is not what everyone can afford due to low income.

The two points I stated above are what takes the largest chunk of your wages while other things like bills, feeding , clothing to me are things one can know how to manage.

In all honesty before anyone can survive here such person must be earning nothing less than 30k pounds per annum before tax anything below that means you will be living from hand to mouth God forbid

Sadly several people here are earning less than 30k which is what makes a lot of people lament and try to advise everyone coming here of the challenges.

Those who Uk is suited for

1. Visitors

2. Skilled workers: I know many people only think skilled workers are only the doctors, nurses etc but no this set of people are those with special knowledge in there respective field including carpenters, bricklayers.

3. Hustlers: yea you heard me right. You see the truth of the matter here is that a lot of people living in the Uk do not tell Nigerians or there family members the truth and what they make them believe is that everything is rosy here.

Here in Uk any job na Job and no one can disrespect you over any job you do because there is respect for one another.

Irrespective of how educated you are and you are coming here for greener pastures be ready to hustle because unfortunately you cannot sit back and relax like in Nigeria waiting for you to land that your dream job. Bros you go wait tire Infact while waiting Na bills and house rent go pursue you to do anything available.

The situation here is a matter of what we see and not what we want as long as it’s paying the bills.

Are you suggesting spouses with children should drop their ambition. Does it mean it is too expensive to train children over there or because of who will take care of them while the other works. Thanks

A person coming with a student visa with a skilled dependent (wife), can easily make a combined monthly wage of 3k after tax. Please how possible is this? No children involved.

Even up to £5,000 combined per month if one of the partners is skilled and working full time. I have evidences. So, the bad news crew should go and die. They are lazing away in Nigeria, they still want to lazy away in UK. Sango go kill all the bad news crew.

This is going to be an honest review for those who are coming or intend coming to the Uk.

I have watched with keen interest how most People on this platform as resorted to abuse/insult on the few people who are trying to enlighten us about the challenges that are faced in the Uk.

While this Enlightenment was not meant to dissuade anyone from coming to the Uk but to prepare you of the UPS & Down faced by most immigrants.

Unfortunately many Nigerians are not prepared to be well informed about something especially when it comes to traveling while I don’t blame many if not for the situation in Nigeria.

Coming to the Uk right now is not for everyone and that is the honest truth what I mean by this is that there are some set of people whom I will not advise to come here when it comes to work.

The truth of the matter is that if you are coming here you have to do away with pride and be ready to hustle, I mean serious hustle with hard work Infact with this serious hustle if you are not careful you might not see peanut to save.

There are two major things that takes away your money here in the UK

Number 1: Tax

The Uk economy cannot be compared with that of Nigeria and over here everything is tax compared to Nigeria where you can do away with that.

This country is built on tax and the social amenities everyone is enjoying from good road, electricity are as a result of the revenue from tax

Every employer deducts tax from your wages and there is no way you can avoid it.

Number 2: Accommodation

Accommodation as become a major challenge which as made a lot of people homeless due to lack of funds to secure accommodation or unavailability of accommodation within your budget.

Brb
So have people who lived there died of these two things you mentioned? If NO , don't worry we too will not die.
