Irritating how?! I'm only asking simple innocent questions. Why would anyone want to friend some eager JJC from Nigeria with all sorts of warped ideas and expectations, not to talk of affectations?
Just an innocent, polite question!

Join the local church. Or look for flyers at the African shop.

Have you tried local classes? Tennis, belly dancing, yoga, book clubs, hiking clubs?

I hear you can make friends at your children's school gates as well.

Welcome.

Don't be nasty. She is new and missing her friends. Not everything is transactional

Of course I'm being sarcastic. But seriously, if/when I leave Nigeria I want to explore other peoples and cultures, not same Nigeria I just left!

There are a lot Nigerians and other Africans out there who are eager to establish connection with other people from Africa; people who understand thier jokes, food, accent, culture, etc. They want to have people to hang out with. Sadly, the environment/culture doesn't encourage casual encounters (even though that might works for some). However, The OP can meet such people anywhere including Nairaland. It has nothing to do with being JJC, this isn't a secondary school school with juniors and seniors. Even if it was, they'd still be other "JJC's" looking to make friends. If you're not in the UK or you are but not interested in being friends with this JJC, just ignore.

OP, in addition to whatever you are already doing, I also suggest you find and join Nigerian cultural groups or go to a Nigerian church (if you're a Christian). Another great option is use meetup. Find a group on the app and attend events. Most importantly, stay open to the idea of making friends with people from other countries. You may not be actively looking for them, but if the opportunity comes, give it a chance. My closest friends are not Nigerians, and they're all great people.

Good luck.

You may feel differently when you leave. Even if you don't, her opinion is just as valid as yours. Leave her be

Did you bring friends from birth? Were you not a jjc at some point in your life too? Before you gained any experience in your job (if you have any), were you not once a rookie? Be nice to people and remove that fake “politeness” you have up there

Funny guy. You did not see where I said I was just being sarcastic and told those who commented they were right.
(Which is why one should be precise and serious on a forum like this - people may not get your sense of humour, sarcasm, or irony!)
