I read of a pastor encouraging people to watch porn if they are addicted to it and also read the Bible more. He wants people to watch porn for 1 hour and read the bible for 3 hours, probably thinking that the porn will fade away as one continues reading the Bible...
I want to tell you this: you cannot overcome addiction with your effort, but you must show strong passion to stop it. God wants to see how serious you are in stopping an addiction and then He steps in to deliver. You cannot expect God to deliver you when you still enjoy the addiction.. But if you have shown great efforts to stop it in your strength, God will see how serious you are and possible deliver you with ease when you pray....Matthew 5:6 "Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled"... You must hunger and thirst to be free from the bondage of addiction, then God will fill you with righteousness and freedom..

Note: God knows our deepest motives. He knows whether we are enjoying an addiction while pretending to need freedom or if we truly hate an addiction and want to be free.

Well said! Exactly my thoughts.

You can't expect God to deliver you from your addiction if you still remain comfortable in it and don't show the willingness to come out.

You can't even be watching porn and reading the bible at the same time, the same way you can't be watching a movie and be reading the bible. Eventually, you will close one of them and guess which one you'll eventually close?


It's when we trivialise God's power that we think human wisdom is always reliable.

Most of these negative addictions goes when you least expect it. Some goes with time. When you were little you were addicted to sucking your hands. As the year goes by, unconsciously you stopped. Same goes to some of these addictions. The bible refreshes ones mind. Don't fight the things of the flesh with flesh. You will fail a thousand times.
