The Lagos State Government will undertake enforcement action to remove over 100 shanties at Adeniji Adele underbridge from tomorrow, Monday, 6th of May, 2024.

The removal is coming after the expiration of a 48-hour removal notice served on all occupants of the shanties to move with their belongings. And operatives of the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI/LAGESC) and officials from the Monitoring Enforcement and Compliance (MEC) department of the ministry will be given security backup to conduct the operation.

This exercise is part of the avowed commitment of the present administration under Mr @jidesanwoolu to reclaim all ungoverned spaces that dot the Lagos landscape. Unsightly shanties which are located in the heart of Lagos Island represent a distorted image of what a smart city like Lagos should be.

Apart from the unsanitary conditions of residents in the shanties, it also serves as a hiding place for criminals and points for peddling hard drugs and substances which is injurious to the wellbeing of law-abiding residents.

Therefore, I advise all the occupants of the shanties in their interest, to voluntarily move out with their belongings before the commencement of the enforcement operations on Monday.

Please it is not by force to stay in Lagos and be living in unhygienic condition. Be in your state and try to do something useful to yourself. It's like Lagos is really facing accommodation issues.

I hope after the removal they will ensure they don't creep back in. Lack of enforcement is the cause of such.

They may return if you fail to tackle the root cause. The agberos and baba alayes that give them those spaces in exchange for rental payment.

Yes! They should! Those shanties have really taken out the aesthetic values of the bridge with all manners of criminality ongoing therein.

The initiative by the Lagos State Government to remove shanties and reclaim ungoverned spaces is a step towards creating a cleaner and safer environment for residents. It's crucial to address issues like unsanitary conditions and criminal activities to promote the wellbeing of law-abiding citizens.

As we focus on urban development and improving living conditions, sustainable solutions like solar energy can complement these efforts. Solar inverter systems provided by The Trills Consulting offer reliable and eco-friendly energy solutions that can contribute to a cleaner and more efficient city infrastructure.

How many people can afford the houses built in that Lagos island. You go see oven with make over outside, 1.2m, the Gov has refused to build affordable housing for the citizens, houses over priced by Agents which they themselves cannot afford.

They will move to Eko bridge under and manage till gov forgets and they come back to Adeniji, though those boys too are notorious for robbing and extorting from breakdown vehicles in that axis

Just to ask, do we have homeless shelters in Nigeria?

Why can't government build these and also build very low cost houses to ease the suffering of people

This government seems to be an elitist one. Zero cares about the very poor

Our governments like to go on vacations while on duty. If the government is not on its toes, that place will be a shanty again within month.

Also, there need to be reorientation for people outside Lagos who are looking to come to Lagos without plans. You can actually be richer than many people living in Lagos if you stay back in your village and utilize the vast arable lands for agriculture. Lagosians don't farm agriculture will always be a gold mine. Rather than roaming the streets of Lagos doing nothing.

Many people in Lagos have family lands in their home state wasting away while they roam the streets of Lagos wasting away themselves. There needs to be a serious mind reengineering.

I would say more like planning issues though . Also real estate in lagos has become seriously overpriced. Although i won't deny the fact that lagos is congested

Also other state governors are culpable. They just sit in their states doing nothing but paying salaries. Zero investment drive, zero industrialization plan. They don't wanna move their states forward.

One would think oil rich states like delta and the rest should be competing with lagos in terms of development but na lie. Very incompetent set of governors

Those you are subtly referring to are the ones in Lekki and Banana islands and not under bridges....the lows amongst them pay for conducive accommodation and always have money to pay over and over again. Unfortunately those living under the bridges are the thugs used during the last election.

If only other states can be at least half as developed as Lagos we won't have such.
