The Federal Government has approved a downward review in electricity tariff for Band A customers(Those with a daily supply of minimum of 20 hours).

Under the approved review,Band A customers who hitherto were charged N225/Kwh are now to pay N206.80/Kwh.

The decision to crash the tariff may not be unconnected with public outcry over the increase in electricity which industry observers, CSOs, labour unions have described as insensitive.

Already, electricity distributors are sending the reduction notice to their customers.

In a notice to its customers on Monday, Ikeja Electric said “Please be informed of the downward tariff review of our Band A feeders from N225/kwh to N206.80/kwh effective 6th May 2024 with guaranteed availability of 20-24hrs supply daily.

”The tariff for Bands B, C, D, and E remains unchanged.”

While we earnestly look forward to the exchange rate falling below 1000/$, efforts should be made to ensure it gets below 216/$, where the APC met it in 2015.

It's even more painful knowing being in band A or any other band is not earned nor is it by choice, BUT only by CHANCE.

I find it difficult to understand why some group of individuals will enjoy availability of power more than others due to no fault of theirs, but because of where you are residing, quite absurd.

By now Govt should endeavour to give all Nigerians adequate power supply and stop this stuff of bands having varying supply hours.

Why doesn't the government simply deregulate the price at once? It seems Tinubu wants to push it to his second term. By then the fiscal position would gave worsened and the debt overload unbearable, considering there's also the cash guzzling fuel subsidy that has also been left aside.
