The Ogun State Government has reiterated its commitment to the investment of scrabble for players and coaches, which would ensure more successes for the players and the State in various competitions.
The Honourable Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Wasiu Isiaka, who made this known at the closing ceremony of the 2nd National Scrabble Festival, held at Ijebu-Ode, noted that the State has changed the narrative of Scrabble administration in the country through investments in Scrabble equipment, provision of playing halls, investment in players, amongst others.
He stated that as one of the games to be played at the upcoming National Sports Festival, scrabble requires passion and strategic thinking, appreciating the organisers for their dedication and devotion towards making the festival a success.
Hon. Isiaka revealed that the State Government, through the State Scrabble Association provided logistics which include accommodation, breakfast and a playing venue, amongst others, which would not only ensure a serene environment for the festival, but also provide a comfortable and memorable experience for the entire duration of the Festival, adding that the passion of the players, for words and competition is truly inspiring.
“Only last year, the State Government sponsored two of our players to the World Scrabble Championship in Las Vegas, USA, a feat that led to the emergence of Sanya Adebola as the Intermediate Champion. The State also rewarded all State contingents including Scrabble players who won medals at the last National Sports Festival in Delta”, he submitted.
He encouraged the participants to continue practicing, learning, and growing in the game of Scrabble, imploring the contestants to let the competition serve as motivation to strive for excellence in all areas of their life.
