Abia LG boss dragged to EFCC - for approving N1m as wife’s kitchen allowance monthly

COUNCILLORS and some stakeholders in Abia State have dragged a council boss, (names withheld) to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for allegedly approving the sum of N1 million every month in the past two years as kitchen allowance for his wife from the council funds.

The spokesperson of the people, Mr. Clement Nwator, in an interview with the Sunday Tribune, accused the council boss of allegedly governing the council from overseas, saying he stays abroad most of the time.

Nwator, who said the people had written to the state governor, Chief Theodore Orji, the Inspector General of Police and the state House of Assembly over the matter, also wanted the EFCC to investigate accusation of alleged financial misappropriation of the sum of N750 million against him and some of his principal officers.

They said that the sum included normal and excess crude account allocations of the council since the inception of the present administration.

The people, who said the area had not enjoyed any dividends of democracy in the two-year administration of the council boss, also accused him of inflating contact sums, citing as an instance, the tarring of half-a-kilometre road located inside the council’s headquarters for N45million.

While reacting to the allegations, one of the special assistants to the council boss told Sunday Tribune in a telephone conversation that the council boss was not in the country at present, adding that he would comment on the matter when he returns from his overseas trip.

He described the allegations as part of speculations towards the next council elections in the state from the people who were spreading it, adding that truth would be revealed soon.

#1 million as kitchen allowance monthly? I'm sure the council boss and his household are eating junks! What will his wife do with just a million Naira monthly? The man sure doesn't know how to spend money.

I am more interested in knowing what this man is doing abroad. Is he on vacation or is the state paying for that trip as well? What business is he out there conducting? And when is he expected back in the country? By the way, what is his name and what local government?

My brother contested for Rep in yr 2007 and he failed !although he got a very big house and so many cars but i tell you, he got less than #100.000 in his account at the moment,i just hope he never come to this forum to read what i wrote here.What i'm trying to say is that politics is a dirty game all over the world,its either loose or gain and anytime you gain,you have to take your chances.

As if the governor doesn't give his wife N2 million for her own monthly kitchen allowance. Nonsense!

And some people think ASUU is asking for too much, abeg all our dear profs want is some about half this kitchen allowance, not too bad for people who have served at least 20years if you ask me.

Na you speak wetin dey my mind, they say govt only cant fund education, 

i guess our journalist need to work more on their story, if they want to help our nation, they should contribute more to sensitize public about our political leaders,i guess they are aiding and abating sometime, what is the meaning of 'namewitheld'. If they really want to help this nation, they should be more detail in their story. Kudos to press in some of these so called nations, at least they followed up stories, inappropriate expenses of MP claims in UK was followed up, until all the party leaders apologise on air, and most resigned. I don't know if they read forum like this.Anyway, the guy should be impeached as soon as he get back from that trip. ole, barawo!

@ outstrip, Anyone who has a link to ASSU past or present through friend or family member deserve accolades. Those are the people Nigeria government supposed to admire and cherish.

The local Government system of governance should be banned.These chairmen are not doing anything for the pple.Even salaries for their staffs in the LG they cant pay again.One of them in the state is owing his LG staff up to 6month salary.They're just looting the public funds n buying expensive cars n houses.The EFCC should come down n probe them all.
