....PhD is a fulfillment of a childhood dream

After his successful viva voce at the University of Ilorin on Wednesday, September 20, Chucks Taiwo Okoji was declared worthy of earning a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Mass Communication.

While speaking on the achievement exclusively with News Bulletin Nigeria, Okoji, a Mass Communication lecturer at the Federal Polytechnic Offa, said the feat was a fulfiment of a dream he had had as a four-year old child.

He added that his PhD programme was very challenging, saying he almost had accidents many times due to incessant travels from Ibadan in Oyo State where he resides to Ilorin in Kwara State.

He said, "I want to appreciate my supervisor, Professor Azeez Lukman Adeshina, for his supervision and unrelenting support for the work.

"The challenges were enormous. Reading and writing academic works were tedious. Many times the supervisor will wrong a whole work I wrote for weeks and won't offer solution. I would have to consult many other scholars on the way out and would still meet a brickwall till I eventually get it. I was close to having accidents on many occasions. I had sleepless nights. I traveled impromptu on many occasions just to meet deadlines for submissions. A lot of funds I can't account for were expended on this PhD journey. Some of my experiences cannot be shared because it is very personal, but in all I give thanks to God for helping me.

"The climax today is that I am a PhD holder. It has been the only dream I have had as a four year old boy and on September 20th, 2023 I have been pronounced as one. Dreams indeed come true."
