A lot of people here are the reason why Nigeria is where we are today. Some people here are not just accepting the fact even though they know the truth within their hearts that this project is another big elephant project. I ask myself apart from third mainland bridge in Lagos and the Lagos ibadan expressway as the government done enough in the maintenance of other highways in Nigeria? No they have not. Look at the benin - auchi highway is nothing to write home about, the government has clearly abandoned that road for years, let's look at the benin - sapele road that links Edo state to delta infact this one is just the worst everyday we hear stories of how it will be fixed but nothing. Nigeria is a joke and if you believe they would do this project ask yourself this question, would Nigeria govt after completion would be able to maintain it? It is one thing to say you want to start a project is another thing to complete it. We all know this is an avenue for the government to launder more money all in the name of coastal road. It seems like a welcome development but I can tell you as far as Nigeria is concerned, this project does not make sense because we all know that it won't be completed during the 8 years tenure of tinubu regime and it would however being abandoned when the next president comes in. A lot of people who are sentimental will come for my head but at your quiet time reason this.

I know someone would say but they are constructing the Benin sapele highway, have you seen what they are doing. I can bet you that road would not last up to 1 year, am not sentimental about this. Am just telling you, what I have seen. Nigeria will always be Nigeria.
there is nothing wrong with those roads u mentioned.

oga, when u have an option, travelling becomes easier.i am scared of travelling to Akwa ibom just because of kidnappings on Benin-Ore road.that Coastal road is for people like us not for u.

And you think kidnapping would not happen on the proposed Coastal road. In fact kidnapping would be easier on the Coastal road, as the there is the added option of escape by the sea.

Kidnapping is due to poor security architecture and not because design of road.

Ever wondered what the coolest coastal road trips in the world are? Picture the scene, you're cruising along a breezy, coastal highway, windows down, your favourite playlist on the car stereo. Utter bliss.

There's a real sense of freedom and romance to be had with a classic coast road trip, especially if your drive includes dreamy coastal scenery, quirky pit stops, challenging roads and fun passengers.

A coastal drive is the perfect road trip for seaside lovers and those seeking adventures and travel memories that will last a lifetime.

With terrible accidents on our highways ,poor safety standards hmmm we are creating food for the ovens cos with our reckless drivers hmmm many plunge people into the ocean

As you can see sentiment and haters group how many buildings are built like that of landmark on the coastline at least you must leave 250meters to the sea shore. So why are you crying now

Oga this is a ppp model. It is to be
tolled just like it is done in many parts of the world. So the company will be in charge of it's maintenance.
Shut up, go and look at Lekki-Epe expressway ppp, after more than 10years, it's yet to be completed.
The portion that was completed is not poorly maintained.

Building new road and rehabilitating old road are not mutually exclusive. Other existing roads are also being fixed.

Infact, I have observed that building new road once design is approved and no obstruction can be faster than fixing existing road. If the nature of renovation on existing road is extensive, it won't be surprising if duration is longer than building new road.

An example was the trouble in fixing Lagos -Ibadan expressway while still maintaining some level of vehicular traffic, even removing existing layer(s) and disposing them obviously can impede the speed of work.

No, if we cannot maintain the old ones, we have no business building new one.

We don't have enough more to waste.

All of that will be fixed, and the coastal highway will STILL BE CONSTRUCTED. Makurdi to Abuja has been concluded, Makurdi to Enugu has commenced. That road that David mark never fixed as Senate President will mow become a dual standard road. Good times are here.
I swear, it won't be fixed.

We will be here to remind you. This is Nigeria

Another hot spot for bandits and kidnappers loading...pass through this coaster road when completed at your own peril

Nigerian government will copy almost everything from Europe, US and other parts of the world but can't copy good governance, rule of law, accountability, human rights, steady power electricity etc

Super costal roads are good but my question is why build another roads when you poorly maintain the existing ones even as a broke nation?

What's the guarantee that you will maintain the road?

Have you plied Benin to Port harcourt road before, you will understand what we are saying.

To me, it's foolhardy to see that sagamu to benin is collapsing, they spentore than 10 years now fixing that road but thy could not complete it.
some of you people logic only works when you want to wail on people you hate .....WHY HAVENT YOU CONDEMN PETER OBI FOR SAVING MONEY IN BANKS WHEN ANAMBRA IS NOT LIKE DUBAI YET?...FOR BUILDING BOREHOLE IN THE NORTH WHEN HIS ON STATE LACKS WATER....FOR BUILDING HERO BEER FACTORY WHEN ANAMBRA WAS BATTLING WITH EROSION.

The Northerners are the ones that are ,'suppose' to be shouting their hearts out as per, the super project though a Nigerian project, it is a project that is DIRECTLY beneficial to the South at most. The North should be the ones crying bitterly but it is not their nature to wail.

But these BITTER people crying and crying sincerely need prayers to be freed from their CURSE. grin grin grin

Don't worry, by the time Tinubu hands over to the North. The ocean will be extended from the South to the North by the Northern president. You will still cry and cry and cry.

If you add all of their investments in Lagos it is not up to the investment of Dangote in Lagos who is from the North. Empty vessels makes the loudest noise. 😂

What we need in this country at the moment is not roads but railway lines to cushion the effect of the economic hardship. It's not a beef or whatever, this is a misplacement of priority if you ask me. Railway lines will help reduce the cost of transporting goods and services across the country, thereby reducing the cost of the items.

There are several abandoned roads here and there why did the FG fix that first. The speed by which this project was started is suspicious and needs to be looked into.

And what is the gdp of those countries, what is the level of infrastructural development there
And in your estimation those countries "waited" for their GDP to rise BEFORE they had such in place? Isn't infrastructural development key to development of nations? This are things we should have a long time before now if not for the series of governments we've had.The positive ripple in the real estate, tourism sector in that corridor will be massive.

The Singapores of this world didn't wait for GDP rise to plant infrastructure that yields a thousand times over today. No country does that, neither should we!

I see so many ignorant people here. So lemme comment devoid of politics

The "Coastal road" being built by the FG mostly runs inland through the coastal states.

It's not really that it runs along the coast from Lagos to Calabar. It is simply a road that connects the coastal states. Most of it will run inland when completed

Also, the main issue I have with the project is the vagueness and obscurity with which it's being implemented

A journalist today asked Umahi whether the environmental impact assessment has been made public, the minister couldn't give a direct answer

Nicely put.

The main reason why it's called Lagos to Calabar Coastal Highway is simply because it connects the 8 Nigerian states (Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Cross Rivers) that are situated near or along the Atlantic coastline. Period.

Conversely, the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi gave a CLEAR response during the media briefing about the EIA after the initial exchange with Laila Salami over the clarity of her British accent. I've known and listened to Laila for years now, so, as a globally well-traveled man (who has been exposed to a lot of world accents), I can EASILY grasp her accent, but others folks might NOT if Laila isn't intentionally clear while speaking. CLARITY is key when communicating with a vast array of folks from different socioeconomic and sociocultural backgrounds.

[b]BELOW is a direct EXCERPT from Bode Gbadebo of Dave Umahi's conversation with Laila:

Umahi: “Sister, I was raised in the village, me I no dey hear phoneh (phonetics), so try to speak…”

Laila: “Well, sorry, I can’t help the way I speak. You mentioned that the ESIS was being carried out at the moment. The EIA Act of 1992….”

Umahi interjected again: “I need an interpreter oh…”

Laila: “Well, you have enough people next to you. The EIA Act of 1992 states that an EIA must be approved by the Federal Ministry of Environment before the commencement of any project unless an exemption has been given…”

Umahi countered the journalist again, saying she was wrong about the process as, according to him, there is provision for preliminary and final approvals.

The journalist, however, insisted on knowing whether preliminary approval had been given for the project to commence or whether there was an exception, to which Umahi, who appeared evasive, said everything was in order as they were following the due process on the highway project.

=>https://leadership.ng/netizens-tackle-umahi-for-trivialising-eia-on-lagos-calabar-road-project/

My take on this media briefing though is that Dave Umahi should be more business-minded next time. If there's anything he doesn't understand while someone is speaking with an accent that is foreign, then Umahi OR anybody else can TELL the person to SPEAK SLOWLY and with more CLARITY and that should help.

Umahi also answered the question on the Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) and his team at the Federal Ministry of Works will be able to provide more details to the public within the week or by next week. EIAs and SIAs are important in every road construction, so, the Lagos to Calabar Coastal Highway CANNOT be an exception in the light of climate change and the FACT that road infrastructure costs more in Southern Nigeria than in Northern Nigeria due to hydrological issues. The road project is also going to be based on "Counterpart Funding" between the Federal Government and the contractor handling the road construction, and NOT via "PPP" as WRONGly and widely circulated.

They hardly leave Lagos?
What are they looking for in your backward region?
If you like cry from now till eternity.....Obi will never be President.
Kepukepu:
The issue with most APC folks is that they are local and they hardly know what happens around the country. Most of you hardly leave lagos, osogbo or Ibadan.

I'm telling you now that to travel to Port harcourt now from Lagos, Sagamu to Ondo state is a mess, Benin to Asaba is falling apart, Onitsha to Owerri is falling apart and even if you go through the east-west road, Benin to Warri is falling apart, Warri to Portharcourt has been under construction for more than 20 Years.

I'm laugh because this is another baseless project that will beer get to Southsouth in another 20 Years. So why can't you save us the stress and fix these other roads.
I'm pretty sure that they want to use it to steal money. No be political rivalry we dey talk, na facts
