*THE NEW MARKAZ UNIVERSITY COLLEGE*

Markaz University College is newly established under the registered name of Arabic and Islamic Training Centre (Markaz) to groom interested people in the areas of Arabic and Islamic Studies.

Origin:

The origin of Markaz as a Centre of learning goes back to Sheikh Adam Abdullah El-Ilory since 1952 as a Madrasah for Arabic and Islamic Studies.

The College:

The College was approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC) in January 2024 to commence undergraduate programmes in affiliation with the University of Ilorin as a parent institution.

The college is starting with two departments: Arabic Department and Islamic Studies Department.

Philosophy:

The institution shall be a restructuring of higher education in a manner that makes its products humane, civilized and disciplined with critical thinking.

Vision:

The institution shall have a record of outstanding scholarship coupled with high spiritual achievement and profound capacity for correctiveness.

Mission:

The mission of the institution in pursuance of its goals shall make divine revelation its source of information and inspiration and shall evolve learning that shapes the mindset of the learner who is focused, selfless and God-conscious.

Admission:

Admission is strictly through UTME and Direct Entry.

Candidates interested must possess their O' level results with at least credit passes in relevant related subjects.

Students admitted through UTME will spend minimum of 4 years for their chosen courses while those admitted through Direct Entry will spend 3 years minimum for their chosen courses.

The Direct Entry admission will commence next year 2025 and not this year 2024.

The school is well equipped with essential facilities to enhance learning and academic activities such as:

Founder:

The college was founded by his eminence Mawlana Sheikh Muhammed Habib Adam Abdullah El-Ilory with approval given by the National Universities Commission in January 2024.

Principal Officers:

The principal officers of the college are as listed below:

Heads of Departments:

There are two departments in the school and one faculty: Department of Arabic and the Department of Islamic Studies.

The pioneer heads of the departments are:

1. Dr. Ahmad Gazaly- Arabic
2. Dr. Y.K. Jumu'ah- Islamic Studies

General Nigerian Studies:

The school offers some other courses under the General Nigerian Studies (GNS) to equip the students to Nigerian standard. These include Computer Appreciation, Use of English, General Science and Environment, Use of Library, Entrepreneurship and others. The GNS is headed by:

1. Dr. Tajudeen Yusuph

Academic Session:

The school is starting its first academic session with UTME admitted students in 2024 and will later consider Direct Entry candidates as time passes.. Academic session begins officially after the post-UTME exercises fixed for May 2024.

Cut-Off Mark

The cut-off mark is in line with that of University of Ilorin for the two departments which is fixed for 180.

Tuition Fee:

The tuition fee is a sum of N100,000.00 (One Hundred Thousand Naira only) for a session covering two semesters. This does not include other fees and levies that must be paid by the students.

Future Expansion:

The school is also working towards expanding in the nearest future.
