AFRICA LENS: Sierra Leone’s Kush Problem by NaijaphiliaBlog: 9:53pm On May 05
On Thursday 04 April 2024, President Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone declared a national emergency, following a massive increase in cases of substance abuse.

His decree is sequel an incendiary rise in the use of a highly addictive synthetic drug known as Kush, which is a mix of marijuana, fentanyl, tramadol, disinfectant, and ground human bones.

In fact, security has had to be tightened at graveyards, to prevent Kush addicts digging up skeletons from tombs.

It has now become commonplace in Sierra Leone to see groups of mostly young men sitting at street corners, with limbs swollen by kush abuse.

Actually, "Colos" is the slang name and abbreviation for "Colorado", a hard drug mixture that contains many drugs, including cannabis.

However, it is not exactly the same as the Sierra Leonian "Kush".

While Colos is just a mixture of many drugs, Kush is a mixture of drugs but also contains 2 ingredients that set it apart:

- Disinfectant (usually formalin)
- Powdered human bones.

As far as the available facts show, Kush is not yet in Nigeria.

Quite shocking!

We were so astounded that we decided to write an article to warn West Africa and the world about it.

This is a real eye-opener.

I really hope Retd. Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (of NDLEA) gets to read this article.

With Nigeria's very high population of youths, Kush must not be allowed to have a toehold in this country.

Human bones?

Thanks for the clarification . I still believe Colorado is a very dangerous drug. It makes the smoker loose their sanity and it involves some kind of spirituality too
