@tokunbo_wahab the video attached is the state of Bank road in Ikoyi whenever it rains.

I believe you can use your good office to find a lasting solution to this.

Dear @olayusuff

There is an ongoing construction of the Collector that will receive this rainwater. The project is going on at the Golf section of Ikoyi Club, and almost at the completion stage. After completion, we'll move in to clear the drains and then remove all structures obstructing the flow. All these will be done very soon. Thanks for your concern.

Tokunbo Wahab @tokunbo_wahab

Clogged Bank Road drainage system.....

The contractor working on the construction of the Collector drain at the Golf section has removed materials blocking the wire gauze at the entrance of the drain into Ikoyi Club to serve as a palliative measure pending completion of the construction, followed by enforcement and reclamation of Right of Way for the drainage channels.

Someone else took the opportunity to complain about Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

Toyosi @Toyosiomoba

@tokunbo_wahab the video attached is the current situation of Lagos Badagry expressway immediately after Tradefair under bridge inwards Mile2, pls use your good office to find a lasting solution to this flood on this particular section of the road. Thanks

Tokunbo Wahab @tokunbo_wahab

Our findings on this road, Lagos - Badagry express road by Tradefair underbridge is that the point is at what appears to be the lowest point in this section (i.e. around the Tradefair between Abule Ado & Abulejika), hence, the water is not flowing within the section due to blockage. The Emergency Flood Abatement Gang (EFAG) of the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources @LasgMOE has been deployed there to commence an immediate cleaning of the drains to allow free flow of the rainwater.

Thanks for your concern.

naptu2:
People are talking about flood, but there are two other things on my mind. Things I have mentioned here.

1) The name of the road:

Dear diary, I told you that I went to that road almost every day in the early 1980s and its name was Bank Road. I told you that I have a habit of calling it Bank Road even today.

However, I told you that there was a ceremony sometime around 1987, a ceremony to mark the anniversary of the death of General Murtala Mohammed and the name of the road was changed to Murtala Mohammed Drive. I told you that General Babangida was present at the ceremony.

I also told you that General Mohammed was killed at the junction of Bank Road and Ikoyi Road and I told you that there was another ceremony in which an obelisk was erected at the junction. It was said that Murtala's family did not want a statue, because of their Islamic faith, so the government decided to erect an obelisk. General Abacha and Chief Abiola were present at this ceremony.

However, everybody in that exchange just now, including the commissioner, is calling the road Bank Road.

2) Cycle lanes: The video shows the cycle lanes that I was referring to. The Fashola administration built bicycle lanes on Bank Road and you can see it despite the flood.

Nigerians should prepare for heavy rain . It has been raining heavily globally which Nigeria won't be exceptions.

Prepare ahead as the heavy rain fall in Nigeria already started some damages, saw one video today on YouTube

Lol…This was supposed to be our “Highbrow” areas.

Realtors will tell you $3.5m can’t get you a good duplex there.

Some even compare it to Miami, Texas, etc.

I think lagos biggest problem is overpopulation, with a very small landmass, if they can tackle overpopulation then it will solve alot of issues, in the aspect of illegal buildings, indiscriminate waste disposal, crime etc....
The moment you enter lagos like dis, you jst discover that everywhere is very hot and humid... Una dey try for dat lagos, na for lagos I experience wetin they teach me for class first hand "urban heat island"

Y'all have been informed already, all structures obstructing the flow will be removed,

So if your house is built on drainage way, start preparing to relocate to another location

Great response from the official.

This is how it should be... Government officials should have open communication lines with citizens.

As for the issue of flooding and drainage... The biggest culprits remain Nigerians.

I have seen newly constructed gutters get clogged deliberately by residents and citizens who willfully dump waste directly into these drainages.

Sometimes, I feel God created a lot of Nigerians with a diminished ability to reason properly.

The mods changed the name of the thread (probably because of space). The original title of the thread was, "The Lagos State Commissioner For The Environment Responds To Complaints About Flood".
