1Corinthians 12:7-10
7. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
8. For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit
9. To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit
10. To another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits: to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues

Tongues and interpretation of tongues are manifestation of the Spirit. Paul in the above text says, there’re divers kinds of tongues. He went a step further to site two examples of divers kinds of tongues.
1 Corinthians 13:1
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.

Notice Paul says, though he speak with tongues of men and of angels. It appears that tongues of men and tongues of angels are two distinct languages yet flowing from the same stream. The prophet Isaiah prophesied of God speaking to the Children of Israel with the tongues of men. “For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people” (Isaiah 28:11).
I remember seeing a video clip of a prophet from Nigeria; and in one of his teaching sessions he wrote in tongues over a blackboard and asked one of his students to touch the blackboard. The moment the student touched the blackboard, he fell under the power of God. That astounded me. I couldn’t understand it until I read the book of Daniel.
In the book of the prophet Daniel Chapter five, it happens that on a certain day the king Belshazzar made a great feast to a thousand of his lords and was drunk. In stupor, he commanded his servants to bring the golden and silver vessels which were taken out of the temple of God. And while they merry and drank wine with those sacred vessels, there came forth fingers of a man’s hand, and wrote over against the plaster of the wall the words MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN. The king requested the astrologers, the Chaldeans, the soothsayers, and all the wise men of Babylon to interpret the writing on the wall. He went as far as to promise whoever interprets the writing shall be clothed with scarlet, and have a chain of gold about his neck, and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom. But none of them could interpret the meaning. It took the intervention of Daniel the prophet, a man in whom is the Spirit of the LORD, to interpret the meaning of those words to the king.
You see, to Belshazzar the king and those around who saw the handwriting on the wall, those words on the wall were tongues of angels.
In that story, the astrologers, the Chaldeans, the soothsayers, and the wise men of Babylon were men of shrewd understanding. They knew things that ordinary men could not grasp. Yet, they could not understand the meaning of that language on the wall. Paul said it best in his letter to the saints at Corinth: “For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries” (1 Corinthians 14:2). If the astrologers, the Chaldeans, the soothsayers, and the wise men of Babylon could not understand the language on the wall, then certainly the language is the tongues of angels.
When I read the fifth chapter of the book of the prophet Daniel, I noticed something in the twelfth verse.
Daniel 5:12
12. Forasmuch as an excellent spirit, and knowledge, and understanding, interpreting of dreams, and shewing of hard sentences, and dissolving of doubts, were found in the same Daniel, whom the king named Beleshazzar: now let Daniel be called, and he will shew the interpretation.

The queen came into the banquet house where the king and his lords were and advised him to call for Daniel. Now notice the last statement in that verse of scripture: the queen did not say, now let Daniel be called, and he will shew the translation. Rather, she says, “Now let Daniel be called, and he will shew the interpretation.” You see, the wise men of Babylon could translate those words, but they could not interpret it. Daniel was able to interpret the meaning to the king because he’s filled with the Spirit of God.
The Bible teaches that what happened to the people in the Old Testament are types and shadow unto us. “Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come” (1 Corinthians 10:11). Put somewhat differently, the inability of the wise men of Babylon and many others in the land at that time to interpret the meaning of that language on the wall is analogous to us in this dispensation. As Christians we might not be able to interpret certain events in our lives until we’re filled with the Holy Spirit. It is only a Spirit filled Christian that could interpret the language on the wall. Paul says, “Wherefore let him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret.” Paraphrasing, let him that is filled with the Holy Spirit pray that he may interpret. In other words, when you’re filled with the Spirit, you can now pray to interpret divers kinds of tongues, divers kinds of situations, divers kinds of dreams, divers kinds of phenomenon and divers kinds of spiritual occurrences and activity.
