Hmmm!!! Peps gone are the days were women are being blamed for not having kids in a relationship . Believe it or not male infertility is seriously on the rise. According to a recent article by Mr sunny.o. Abarikwu there has been a decline in the semen quality of young healthy men worldwide with similar findings being reported in Nigeria. The rate of male infertility currently was put at 11% according to his article. Unfortunately, the true figure could be higher because Nigerian gynecologists frequently report that infertility cases constitute between 60% and 70% of their consultation in tertiary health institutions . I personally in the past two years have seen cases of not just low sperm count ie oligospermia but Azospermia lack of sperm cells in the semen. I have seen the devastating effect this conditions can affect a man which brings me to a case I'm currently handling .
Three months ago before I even though of blogging , i was attending to my customers in the evening . It's usually busy i don't even have enough time for proper consultation because of how impatient the next patient can be...i noticed a young woman she should be in her late twenties or early thirties, average height , dark in complexion with a worried look. She held on to a bag . I thought she was a medical representative of one pharmaceutical company ...i was already saying to myself "Pls I can't attend to any company representative now, I'm so busy that I don't even have time for myself" ...i wanted to discharge her so as not to waste her time, interrupted my consultation and asked her politely ...
"Hello ma, pls can i help you, what do you want?" her response " ma I want to see you privately, I was directed by my neighbor who you assisted with her ovulation period and now she is pregnant " I was like " oh ok give me a second I'm almost done"
I rounded up with my consultation and beckoned on her to come to my office ...she got to my office,I offered her a sit and she started her story....
"Ma I have been married for the past 6 years I got married at 24 and I am 30....i have not been able to conceive.. .I have done all sort of medical tests ...taken fertility drugs yet to no avail. Every medical test result says im ok....why can't I conceive.. .she reached out to her bag and brought out heaps of finished drugs....i screamed because they were quite much....
I asked her certain personal questions ranging from her period count, ovulation, abortion records,STI's and STD infections ....fortunately she was a virgin before she got married . I then asked what about your husband, has he gone for any medical test...she replied "Ma, honestly that has been my greatest challenge ... I have been pleading with him to follow me for medical checkup .. ..he refuses...anytime he finally agrees due to pressure from friends and family , he always has a way of missing the appointment with one excuse or the other....click my signature for the complete gist
