Hybrid Repair
Since they were first introduced in 1999, hybrid gas/electric vehicles have continued to grow in popularity. This is due to their lower emissions and superior fuel efficiency. They also lack the range limitations of the current line up of purely electric vehicles (EVs). While these cars afford many benefits, a hybrid repair can present unique challenges. Unlike EVs, hybrid cars also need most of the same maintenance services as gas-powered vehicles. These include oil changes, fluid refills, and air filter replacement. But a standard mechanic may not have the experience or knowledge needed to do repairs on hybrid vehicles. For this reason, you must find a technician who can work on both systems.

The information below lays out the specific repair needs associated with hybrid vehicles. Use this knowledge to identify a hybrid repair shop that can address these challenges. It will help keep your vehicle running efficiently for a long time.

Hybrid Batteries
Hybrid repair in general can be a complex undertaking. But the vehicle’s battery is one of the areas where a technician needs specific expertise. Hybrid batteries must be powerful enough to supplement the energy that pure gasoline vehicles get from fuel. This means they are larger and more complex than standard batteries. Due to this, hybrid batteries are much more expensive than standard ones. If they don’t know what they are doing, a repair person could damage the battery and cause serious problems in your vehicle.

Due to their build, hybrid batteries tend to last much longer than regular ones. It is not uncommon for a manufacturer to offer 100,000- to 150,000-mile warranties on them. To keep your warranty intact, you will want to ensure that you find reputable hybrid battery repair from a certified technician.

Brakes
Most hybrid cars have regenerative brakes. This means they siphon energy from your car’s stopping power and use it to recharge the battery. Beyond their energy-absorbing capabilities, one advantage to these is that they last much longer than normal brakes. The flip side is that replacement or repair can be very expensive. This system also relies on an inverter to supply the electrical current that recharges the battery. Depending on the mileage on your car, a warranty may cover this part. Ask your hybrid auto repair technician about how braking and related parts work together. Make sure that they are certified to work on these components.

Electrical Systems
Hybrid vehicles also have complex electrical systems. These use auto-start and shut-off features that help preserve the life of your battery and conserve fuel. They must be calibrated or they could cause serious damage to your transmission or starter. For this reason, hybrid repair of electrical systems should be left up to someone who understands the nuances of these operations.

Find Hybrid Repair Near You
Now that you understand the unique makeup of these vehicles, you can find a trained technician who can perform hybrid repair and maintenance. You’ll have the peace-of-mind that your vehicle is being serviced or repaired by someone who understands the ins and outs of hybrid vehicles. Reach out to us today to see how we can meet your hybrid car repair needs.

Hybrid cars are good and repairable. People have grown a myth in this part of the world that they are not reliable which is untrue. In fact, the CVT transmission is more reliable than a regular transmission.
In the western part of the world, hybrids and electric cars are becoming hot cakes due to rising gas prices.

I think there need to be change of orientation here as regards to how hybrids are perceived but it should start with availability of good technicians. This is the aspect that frustrates hybrid users in Nigeria. It's good that hybrid technicians are increasing.

There is popular belief here that most cars used for public transportation are strong. Hybrids are used as taxis abroad because of their high fuel economy.
Again, people need to be aware of advantages of hybrid cars to value them.

I visited @Youngdoc Over the weekend.

My Toyota Camry hybrid 2009 abs, has been making an unpleasant noise for a while now. Because of work i have been unable to get it fixed. We decided to fix a date. He came late but apologized profusely that it was unlike him.

He didn't go straight to changing the part.

So this is it;

I have had the car for about 1 year and 6 month. The noise coming from the abs was so minimal that could be ignored as at the time i got it. I took a trip from Port Harcourt to Lagos. After 2 weeks of coming back to PH, the noise became prominent.

I reached out to my usual hybrid guys. They pointed to the ABS but they advice i change the master break, as the noise seem to emanate from it and sending the sound to the ABS. I was reluctant but we went ahead. 39k and the noise was still there.

I didn't want to get upset as i was the one that gave them a go ahead. I had reached out to oga @Gazzuzz earlier this year. He slammed me 120k. I kept dragging feet. Few days After changing master break the noise disappeared. 120k saved i was already happy. I continued cruising the car. While in traffic and blasting my music i started hearing what felt like the noise. low and behold it was back. I chatted @Gazzuzz, ABS 160k. KILODE!!! I told him i could not afford it. We ended the conversation.

The butterflies in my stomach died. I called @youngdoc telling him the noise is back as i had informed him earlier. He invited me to his workshop the next day which was Saturday. I woke up around 6am hoping the noise will disappear but the village people are here to stay.

He first pointed out the 700 break fluid is the usual one which was in the system and it gets so Hot. It might be the culprit he said.

We bled it the system and replaced with the recommended blue color one.

BOOM!!! the noise disappeared. I almost gave him a kiss. We agreed on price, gate open, while reversing the sound came back. At this point hunger came and frustration on everyones face.

He and his young comrades were disappointed as i was. He asked me to drop the car and go home.

I booked a ride. I went home and slept. He called someone to bring a direct ABS to test with. The ABS at his workshop was used but the pump refuse to work.

Around 3 i made my way back to his workshop. He said the new ABS worked and the sound has disappeared. I was happy and sad. Happy because it worked sad because i had to spend 150k on another ABS. That's the price my usual guys gave me excluding shipping from lagos as they cant find it here in ph.

Getting to the shop , tested the car and all sound gone. Break was sharper all was good.

So back to the price, He negotiated 135k with the abs guy already.

I looked into his eyes like, Really!!! I had already communicated the price of others to him so wondered why he didn't pocket the 15k on top and send the balance to the guy. I guess few honest engineers still exist.

@youngdoc is quiet young and open to suggestions. He explained every step of the way when i ask him questions. The second guy was even younger, as well as the 3rd. i couldn't help but ask how long he has been working on hybrid. They were not fidgeting or anything as i decided to stay incase i notice try and error i carry car commot, but that was not the case.

I am sure he will be shocked reading this.

Thank you champ.

I think this should be the official hybrid thread in Port Harcourt.

Glad you met an honest technician.

Gazuzz must be a criminal for trying to sell same part at 160k when you were able to get it at 135k.

Gazzuz must be avoided.

He isn’t a criminal. It’s business.

If you don’t agree with a price you move.
Goodwill and insurance is what comes with his price. Check jiji and you will see 140-170k

I was called by a customer to come check on his 2006 highlander hybrid that is not starting, the interesting part of it is that, the car has been packed in a workshop for close to 1year plus now, and he's been trying to fix the non-start issue, with different technicians but with no result....

Their have change the inverter system, both the hybrid battery complete pack, but the problem was still thier, making him spend money that was not necessary, with no result..

So he heard about me and decided to give me a try. We talk for a long run and I fix a date to come check on it. With my diagnosis and total check, i found out an ECU line that has been tampered with our Nigerian rodent (rat) . Immediately I join the two hot wire, I start the car and it started. I drove the car to and fro everything was perfectly working.

I could feel the joy within him and happiness ☺. He was happy his car now start, working perfectly but at the other hand he wasn't been able to meet the right technicians if not he won't have spend so much money on the car and the time it takes ...

Don't be a part changer....
