Morning guy. Just noticed that my Nigerian passport expired about 3 weeks ago and need to travel to Nigeria soon. Don't think i will be able to get appointment in time over here in the UK to renew my passport here before i travel to Nigeria. I have been told that Nigerians can travel to Nigeria on expired passport but i dont know how true that is or if its was just a short term thing.

1. Can anyone please tell me if i can indeed in this 2024 travel to Nigeria from the uk to Nigeria on expired Nigerian passport without any headache with immigration on arrival in Nigeria?

2. Is there an official government document i need to carry with me to say Nigerians can travel with expired Nigerian passport?

If yes, where do i get this document from?

P. S. I will also be carrying my British passport with me just in case official need to validate the information on my expired Nigerian passport i will be travelling with to Nigeria.

Yes my plan is to renew my Nigerian passport while in Nigeria or return on my British passport but what i wanted to find out oa of i can indeed travel from uk to Nigeria on my expired Nigerian passport.

I have not travelled yet but the airline i am flying with said its not problem they will let me travel with my expired Nigerian passport as long as i have another passport to come back on. Its best to ask your airline either going to their desk at airpot in person

Happy to report that just to get i final confirmation i phone the nigerian immigration service head quarters ( +234-912-1556-359) Abuja from London and the very nice guy i talked to said Nigerians with expired passport can indeed fly to Nigeria on expired passport but its at the discretion of airline. Key note is to speak to your airline and if they will let you board with expired passport. Snotty er key note the guy told me is that one should or at least attempt to re-new his or her passport before departing Nigeria ad you cant not come out of nigeria with expired passport. So when returning either return your passport or have another foreign passport with you if you are a dual citizen.
