The Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Sunday Ehindero, on Monday said a Peoples Democratic Party chieftain in Oyo State, Chief Lamidi Adedibu, had written an undertaking not to foment trouble before, during and after the April general election in the state.

Ehindero was speaking on the crisis that broke out between the supporters of the Oyo State Governor, Alhaji Rashidi Ladoja, and his deputy, Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala, in Akure, the Ondo State capital, on February 3 which claimed two lives.

He also said that 19 people had been arrested in connection with the mayhem.

The IG said that it would be wrong for the police to arrest and detain Adedibu when it had no strong case against him.

When asked about the six direct data capture machines allegedly found in his home, Ehindero said he invited Adedibu and questioned him but did not find him worthy of being detained.

He said, ”What guides us in this job is the law and not what people say. What offence has he committed (to warrant his being detained)?

“I invited him based on the issue and he told us that he did not carry the machines and was not seen with them. What are you going to prosecute him for?

”He (Adedibu) had given us an undertaking that he would not cause trouble in Oyo State before, during and after election.

”I still don‘t know why the people are saying the man is not literate. If you see his handwriting and the way he constructed his language, you will bow.”

On the Akure mayhem, he said that those arrested were made up of supporters of Ladoja and Alao-Akala.

The IG said five guns were recovered from a pilot car at Akure Stadium, venue of the rally.

The guns were made of two pump action guns, two English and one locally-made pistol, and 133 cartridges.

Among those arrested were five policemen and the Aide de Camp to the Governor, Mr. Fola Ogunkoya a deputy superintendent of police.

The police added that the police were still on the look-out for other suspects. He said they would soon be declared wanted by the police.

Ehindero also announced a ransom of N250,000 on the leader of the gang (name withheld).

He also asked the Force Secretary to post the ADC out of the state.

Though the police boss exonerated the ADC in the mayhem, he said Ogunkoya ought to have charged the pilot car in which the guns and the ammunition were found before it was taken to the venue of the rally.

He also blamed the ADC for allowing a civilian to drive the pilot car in which mobile policemen were, saying that that was an offence. He also directed the force secretary to write a circular to all police command on the matter.

I guess, the IG is waiting for Adedibu to have up 60 machines in his house before making the move to arrest him.

This is why Nigeria will never move forward.

It is time to delete all these incompetent defective Personnel from the top to the bottom.

Leadership role is not for everyone.

Amazing Bigb1 i will not comment on this issue. there is no win win in Nigeria. same people saying we should not judge and detain people on speculations are the same people saying Adedibu should be jailled. what if he was framed by his opponents. I choose not to comment on this issue for personal reasons, BIGB1 when you coming to town again?

The most stupid men in Nigeria are Ehindero and OBJ, What Evidence did they have against Fasheun and Gani Adams before they were detained, what of Asari Dokubo, yet these people were detained without regards to law of the land, Adedibu has killed more innocent people than OPC had, he is the singular person destroying Oyo, stupid ehindero.

Doing what is right is what differentiate a true leader from a coward.

The IG should be immediately chased out of Nigeria; he's part of the problem.

Sorry, MAMAJAM, that's the truth.

I'm pretty sure, you have an extra room in CHITOWN.
