He was known as the "Petit Dauphin" to distinguish him from his father. When his father died in April 1711, the Duke of Burgundy became the official Dauphin of France. ‘Paying the Hostess’ Pieter de Hooch Dutch, 1629

In this canvas of the mid 1670s, De Hooch depicts the familiar theme of a disputed reckoning, which as usual involves a soldier and an innkeeper. Here, however the elegance of the officer and the shrewdness of the pretty hostess raise the subject to the level of social commentary in the artist’s adopted city of Amsterdam.

The soldier has brown skin and the hostess has white skin.

House of Wittelsbach, German noble family that provided rulers of Bavaria and of the Rhenish Palatinate until the 20th century. The name was taken from the castle of Wittelsbach, which formerly stood near Aichach on the Paar in Bavaria. In 1124, Otto V, count of Scheyern (died 1155), removed the residence of his family to Wittelsbach and called himself by this name. His son, Otto VI, after serving the German king Frederick I, was invested duke of Bavaria, as Otto I in 1180. From that date until 1918, Bavaria was ruled by the Wittelsbachs.

Now Moors ruled the Iberian Peninsula which lies just below Southern France to the Mediterranean sea. No one should mistake a Moor for a Hebrew or Middle Eastern nor a white Caucasian. These 3 types appear throughout the royal portraits. Also there existed Christian Moors since the time the Roman Empire ruled North Africa which came before the Arab Islamic conquest of North Africa. These Christian Moors rich, wealthy and well educated travelled freely throughout Europe. The hostility that existed had roots in religious differences not race.
