A Missed Opportunity: Yahaya Bello's Tenure as Kogi State Governor Comes to an End

As the sun sets on Yahaya Bello's tenure as the governor of Kogi State, it is an opportune moment to reflect on the legacy he leaves behind. While there may be physical structures like the Ganaja Flyover that stand as testimonies to his term, the echoes of his leadership resonate with a discordant note of missed opportunities, alleged corruption, and a heavy-handed approach that has left a bitter taste in the mouths of many.

One cannot deny the significance of the Ganaja Flyover or other infrastructural projects initiated during Bello's administration. However, the true measure of a leader lies not just in the concrete structures they build but in the intangible impact they have on the lives of the people they serve. Unfortunately, in the case of Governor Yahaya Bello, the scales tip in favor of disappointment.

One of the gravest accusations that taints Bello's legacy is the cloud of corruption that looms over his family, including his wife and nephew. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) radar has been tracking their activities, casting a shadow over the administration's integrity. Instead of setting an example of transparency and accountability, Bello's tenure has been marred by allegations of impropriety at the highest levels of government.

Furthermore, the arbitrary dethroning of three traditional rulers raises questions about Bello's commitment to democratic values and respect for diverse opinions. Suspicions linger that these dismissals were politically motivated, a punitive measure against those perceived to have aligned with the opposition during the last governorship election. This heavy-handed approach to governance sends a chilling message about the fragility of democratic principles under Bello's rule.

Governor Yahaya Bello had the opportunity to be a beacon of positive change for Kogi State. He had the chance to foster unity, champion transparency, and uplift the lives of the people he swore to serve. Instead, he chose a path of alleged corruption, arbitrary actions, and a disregard for the democratic values that underpin our society.

As the curtains fall on his tenure, Kogi State may find itself grappling with the scars of misrule. The missed opportunities for genuine development, the tarnished reputation of a government entangled in corruption allegations, and the unsettling specter of a leader who silenced dissent rather than embracing diversity.

The people of Kogi State deserve a leader who prioritizes their welfare, upholds the principles of democracy, and leads with compassion. The end of Yahaya Bello's tenure marks not only a change in leadership but also an opportunity for the state to reset its course towards a brighter, more inclusive future. May the lessons learned from the past guide Kogi State towards a new era of governance that truly serves the needs and aspirations of its people.

I am beginning to suspect that Kogi State needs Special Prayer & Deliverance. A State that produces the likes of Yahaya Bello, & Dino Melaye sure has numerous genetical defects.

Yahaya Bello is better than most governors in core North. Ikpeazu didn't perform better than Bello if we are to be very honest.
