Dear Dirk,

Thank you for your feedback. I do not know where you got this information. It might have been from Radio Biafra, but it is false.

On this current demolition exercise for the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, please note that it is being carried out and authorised by an Igbo man, Dave Umahi and most of those affected are Yoruba.

Also, the Federal Government never seized the monies and properties of Igbos after the civil war. There was no law or policy to that effect. The Gowon government did seize Ojukwu's property, but it was returned to him by the Babangida administration.

During the war, the Republic of Biafra introduced its own currency, the Biafran Pound, on January 29, 1968. The Nigerian government refused to recognise that currency.

After Biafra was defeated and Colonel Ojukwu fled Nigeria on January 9, 1970, the then Minister of Finance, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, introduced a policy of giving everybody who had an account domiciled in Biafran Pound the sum of 20 Nigerian Pounds. It was a gift.

Those Igbos who had their bank balance in Nigerian Pounds got ALL of their money back in full, even if their accounts were in Biafra. Those who had money in Nigerian banks had their money intact. The Nigerian government did not seize it. Examples would be Chief Alex Ekwueme and Senator Arthur Nzeribe, both late. Another example is Chief John Nnia Nwodo. I can show you his video testifying that his father's deposit in Nigeria was not only INTACT after the war, but had yielded significant interests.

Only those who had Biafran Pounds were subject to the £20 policy.

Neither was their property seized by the Federal Government. The only people who seized their property were their fellow Igbo-speaking people in Rivers State, referred to as Ikwerre, who say they are not Igbo. It was Igbo inhumanity to fellow Igbo (although they claim they are not Igbo). But in other parts of Nigeria, it never happened.

An example is the case between the late Alex Ekwueme and Otunba Subomi Balogun. Although they were not really friends, per se, they lived close to each other. Just before the outbreak of the civil war, Alex Ekwueme left Lagos for the Eastern Region, like most prudent Igbos.

After the war, he returned to Lagos and, surprisingly, met his house in a renovated condition. While wondering what happened, his neighbour, Mr. Subomi Balogun, approached him and gave him his back rent in cash.

Your own leader, Nnamdi Azikiwe, abandoned your region during the war and fled to Lagos to join General Gowon. Yet, a Yoruba saboteur, in the person of Wole Soyinka, was jailed by Gowon from 1967 to 1969, for advocating for Biafra.

Everybody around Aguiyi Ironsi abandoned him. Everybody, except Colonel Adekunle Fajuyi, who refused to abandon his guest, and VOLUNTARILY followed him to death. After Ironsi’s death, General Adebayo looked after Ironsi’s children, who lived with him in his house.

After Chukwuma Nzeogwu was killed, it was his friend, Olusegun Obasanjo, that looked after his mother, and ensured all his siblings were educated.

This same Olusegun Obasanjo ended the civil war and ensured that troops under his command did not take revenge against civilians, as was done by soldiers under the command of the late Murtala Mohammed.

Additionally, when he became President, Olusegun Obasanjo remembered the children of Emmanuel Ifeajuna and did something powerful for them that I am not at liberty to say publicly, except that I worked at Aso Rock at the same time his son worked there.

Thanks again, and may God bless you.
