It is just around 2pm and there have been two threads complaining about the toxicity on this site. Make I add my own

Serious discussion

The truth is that there is a lot of toxicity on nairaland and nothing is being done about it.

1. Someone makes a comment, promoting an idea, and immediately gets a response that starts with abuse and insults for nothing.

I mean, we all can disagree with each other, but men....like the time someone disagreed with someone over a crime case in the USA and called the person agabdo.

Person wey dey support obi on the site,is agbado because he disagrees with you.

2. There are the misandrists and misogynistic people on this thread. Person go come here and say that everyone of a particular gender is evil. Everyone. And nothing is done. Then there are people who just wake up and call someone using homophobic abuse. Like the person that called a Nigerian celeb gay. Like is there even proof?

3. Tribalism own is even awful. I have seen abuse hurled at tribes, anti Igbo anti yoruba and anti north. Anti Fulani hate has so become acceptable, I worry that it might cause genocide. Yet comments abusing fulanis are left on the site. Comments that would make the people who ran radio mille Collines in Rwanda very proud.

And then there is the abuse on obi and tinubu. Man, these are elderly men, and on this site, people use all sorts of dirty language to describe both men. Even atiku, and then buhari and gej and many of our past leaders self. I no dey support them, but I am getting tired of the abuse. All our leaders deserve some respect, yeah they have messed up, but you can make your criticism without using abuse

4. And then there are the trolls on both sides. I no go mention names, but there are people whose job it is to troll others . Nothing is done about the trolling epidemic. Yes both obi and tinubu supporters are guilty. Very much so.

I guess we could start by using phone numbers for verification of accounts on this site. Maybe it would work, maybe not. Also spambot can be expanded in it's duties to clear out hateful comments and suchlike.

Yeah, I know, you will come and call me a hypocrite. You may come and accuse me of being a part of the problem. But at the end, this site has become too toxic. It's time to change.

It's been like that for years, by the way.

Every toxicity, bigotry and tribalism Nigerians are experiencing today started from 2012, when a group of people was threatening the president and the peace of the country.

They occupied Ojota because fuel subsidy was removed and fuel was sold at #145 but today they're no where near Ojota.

They engaged in series of propaganda against the sitting president, threatened baboons and blood if they don't win election.

These group of people would later metamorphosize into sai Baba and now tinubu supporters.

They're one and the same
