Panda-monium at the Zoo: Dogs Dyed to Resemble Panda Cubs Spark Outrage


The Taizhou Zoo, located in northern China, unveiled its new exhibit featuring these canine doppelgangers, dubbed “panda dogs.” Evidently, the zoo lacked real pandas, a popular draw for tourists, and resorted to this unconventional tactic to fill the void.

While the zoo claims the dye is non-toxic, animal experts are barking mad. Concerns have been raised about the potential health risks associated with dyeing an animal’s fur, which plays a crucial role in temperature regulation and protection.

Zoo Defends its Actions, But Critics Unconvinced


The zoo maintains that the exhibit is clearly labeled and the dogs are not being misled. However, critics argue that this practice is deceptive and undermines the educational mission of zoos.

Ron Magill, director of communications at Zoo Miami, emphasizes the importance of zoos in promoting conservation and responsible animal care, not turning them into “dye shops” for entertainment purposes.

This isn’t the first time a Chinese zoo has landed in hot water for animal antics. Last year, a video of a sun bear walking on its hind legs went viral, sparking wild theories that it was actually a human in disguise.
