Hi Guys,

Please, I really need your help. I have been thinking about my future and I need your advice.I am a guy with 7 years experience in my field (civil engineering). I would like to go for my post graduate studies in Canada and then live there afterwards( Hope to get PR after my studies). Now I seem to hear voices in my head, some telling me to stay back in Nigeria and another voice telling me to go for the graduate studies in Canada. My present job is just an ok job with a gross salary of 200k per month but I have been able to raise 6m from my other businesses (bus business+savings). Now to my questions...

Is it really worth it going for graduate studies in these developed countries ? Do you think this is something that will pay off in the future ? I have put marriage on hold pending when I`m done with my studies and get a job. This is the one that scares me the most. What if I don't a job as soon as I finish my studies?

You have N6 million, a job that pays you 200k monthly and some businesses that fetch you profit on the side and yet you appear to want to sacrifice all these for a Master's degree from Canada, with the risk of not getting a job thereafter. You are 32 years old, 8 years shy from being 40.

What you are looking for in Sokoto fit dey inside your shokoto. Look well before you leap bro.

I think it's worth pursuing considering the fact that engineering graduates are always in demand.
However, i wouldn't spend all the 6M to acquire an education when there really isn't a guaranteed ROI.

if your objective is to grab masters degree alongside canadian residency then you are good to go - you are effectively using few stones to kill plenty of birds.

however, if you are just thinking of getting only masters degree in canada, then stay back in nigeria. it won't worth your while spending all your savings & then become one of the army of foreign graduates still searching for jobs in nigeria.

1st, i salute u.. You have tried for yourself and i envy your courage to come out here asking for people's opinion.

How secured is this present job of yours and what is your expectation as regards promotion?

I would suggest you still with your present job and the business you have been able to build. In no time, you will be a CEO and start employing people.

You can start your M.Sc here or get a professional qualification that's related to engineering.

All the best bro.

mutter:
If you go to Canada and get a masters degree you would probably get a job there
200 000 Naira is less than the minimum wage in a developed country for unskilled labour.
So you would certainly be able to earn a lot more. Furthermore if you get a goo job you get a health insurance and have a high standard of living and education to offer your kid`s in the future.
So you would certainly do well there.
However Nigeria is a crazy place, where people become millionaires overnight. You could make the kind of money in Nigeria that you could never have the opportunity to make anywhere in the world.
Put it in prayer. There are times I regret leaving Nigeria but then often I am also Glad I left.

Nigeria is one of the easiest place to triple your money . If you passion is to make money , I advice you to stay put and nurture a biz that you dream of. But, if you want the simple life of an educated fellow living and working in the western world ,which is rewarding at the moment more than the Nigerian prospects at the beginning, then go ahead with the Canada dream.

2009 after nysc, most of my peeps were all travelling to d west for msc , I wanted to join the chorus but as God may have it, it didn't go as planned, I'm very happy that the idea didn't work out. Most of my peeps are still trying to find their feet now but the few of us that stayed behind are doing better than 98% of them.

Guy, you have what it takes to be the next dangote if you think properly and channel your packages very well. Opportunities plenty here. Africa is still as a virgin as before. There are so many gaps that needs to filled. That money can do alot.
