The FG has set up a committee to ascertain whether on the basis of the Okigbo report a criminal charge can be sustained against former military president General Ibrahim Gbadamosi Babangida (rtd) over allegations of corruption and mismanagement of $12.4 billion in the Dedicated and Special Accounts while he was in power.

Now I am not sure if this is true.

If it is true, it could be GJ wants to clip IBB's wings as regards 2011
Whatever the motive, let them with the evil genius and then may be and may be OBJ will pay his own share of halliburton bribe

this is a coded message asking IBB to step down from Presidential run.

this is not how politics should be determined in a democracy. Mr Jonathan Goodluck must stop this mafiosy styled politics. We will resist it.

Clip IBB's Wing in less than a year? By the way, his VP is a known IBB Ally. That a whole lot of Nigerians see IBB as the greatest of the corrupt in the country did not stop him from throwing his hat in the race, this will?

Yes, charging him for corruption and prosecuting could do that in 6 months. Remember he is a Nigerian president. he may choose to do it the way of OBJ.
Kobojunkie:

By the way, his VP is a known IBB Ally.

Yea but Sambo is looking at a VP slot in less than a year and a possible Presidential slot in a long term. There is no permenant friends in politics.

Yar'Adua's nephew is a good example.

That is desire. Nigerians may not remain complacent forever. Not GJ is devoid of crime. We are only hoping may be for once someone may put the country first.
Re: Fed. Govt. Vows To Prosecute Ibb by sjeezy8: 6:24pm On May 20, 2010
This is just another case of black mail because IBB stepped out of line by trying to contest for presidency in 2011.

If he drops out of the race I guarantee he wont be prosecuted.

Charging and prosecuting him in 6 months? That will be a feat considering we have not been able to do that for almost 20 years now.

He is looking at a VP slot in less than a year? He is already VP, I am not certain he has announced he wants the job for longer. That he is an ally, he might work to cripple attempts by the president to prosecute his pal . . . look at the Obj-Atiku example.

Absoluuuuute Rubbishhhhhh. Reminds me of how Ribadu and his Efcc dogs 'arrest' IBB's ajebota son (Mohammed) and detained him for 2 days - as a way of telling IBB drop out of the 2007 presidential race. He did. After that what became of the EFCC case against Mohammed/IBB Now they're bringing back the same worn-out tricks. Stu.pid people all - the government and the masses who would be deceived as usual.

There will always be the first time and do not forget that charghing him with corruption will hang around his neck, not that an average Nigerian who is a praise singer cares.

May be I should have said for a longer term. Power is difficult to let go esp for African politicians but even the europeans are not spared, ask Gordon brown.
I think he will like to be there for a longer term that is if he does not want to be the president in 2011

As I said earlier, there is no permanent allies. People form political allies in order to achieve what they cannot achieve alone. If they can achieve it without the help of another, then the other could as well go to hell. A case in hand is the marriage of convenience between Cameron and Clegg.
The moment Cameron thinks he can win a majority, he will jetisson the wedding ring.

Yes May be!!!!!!!!!!!

Threathening OBJ with Prosecution has worked before and it will work again as long as Jonathan does not 'blink first'. Jonathan is learning well from OBJ. Let us not forget that OBJ used precisely the same tactics in 2006 to force IBB to drop out of the race.  OBJ 'turned up the heat' with how he deployed the EFCC to arrest and detain Babangida's son , Mohammed, over his ownership of  undeclared GLOBACOM shares. Babangida promptly dropped out the race with some excuse about not wanting to contest against his "Junior Brother " Yar Adua !!!!

After IBB backtracked , the case against his son suddenly evaporated !!!

If this is intended to force him to step down from 2011 presidential election,it is a good option to stop the evil genius from ruining this country.

Well, I will not hold my breath for this one. We may even get a report tommorow claiming this news is FALSE, who knows. If the federal is going to prosecute IBB, it better be ready for a fight of the decade because IBB is probably going to fight back and I doubt 6 months will be enough for this fight. You are right, there is always a first but in Nigeria's case, it is yet to be seen. Even Obj is walking free and fabulous after all his crimes against the people. Jonathan's wife, has yet to be made to answer to allegations of fraud she was supposedly involved in. *** let it out*** lol

Like he fought back in 2007 by Chickening out of the Presidential race after his son had been arrested and detained? IBB is a cowardly opportunist like most Nigerian politicians !!!! It is Nigerians themselves who ascribe super-human strenght/ability to these selfish leaders who are far more about self-enrichment and self-preservation than bravery and resolve .

Nothing stops Jonathans wife from being prosecuted. I remember, when he was asked about the case, GJ said, she is an adult and should be able to answer for herself. I guess that is still the case.

Well I know for now, it is almost impossible, however if Nigerian should begin to drum for her execution, anything can happen.

Not sure anyone will drum for that now that Gani is gone even though he could be biased.
Re: Fed. Govt. Vows To Prosecute Ibb by Kobojunkie: 7:13pm On May 20, 2010
Nigerians do not need a Gani for the laws to be upheld. We do not need to drum for EFCC to open up the investigation on her, or is that the way it ought to work?

If the custodians of the law refuse to do what they should do, the public who bequeated the role to them should demand that justice be done.

And this works elsehwere. When you have refused to allow them have their ways, they will learn to do it right to avert unrest or lose their power like Brown

I strongly believe that time is ripe for all of us to overlook sentiment of whatever coloration and get things right. One of the right step for this country is to find the polical WILL to get people like IBB to answer for thier inhuman atrocities, ONLY TIME SHALL TELLL cry cry

So, who is the custodian of the law in this case?

In your country so many bodies do the same job.

EFCC, ICPC, Police etc. These guys should be independent and go after any criminal. The executive comes in when there is a panel of enquiry like that of Okigbo after which they should hand in the report to the appropriate body for necessary action.
As if you do not know.

No theories please. . . just the facts! Who is the custodian of the Law in Nigeria. We know how things ought to be but how are things REALLY in that country?
Re: Fed. Govt. Vows To Prosecute Ibb by agabaI23(m): 2:31am On May 21, 2010
Well No theory, I just told you who officially are the custodian of your law. Whether they discharge their duty is another ball game.

Remember you asked me earlier if we have to shout before justice is done. Then I told you that if the custodians do not do their job then we have to remind them. Now you are asking whether i do not know how things are. It is because i know how things are that I suggested that the masses will have to drum it up to get justice.

Back to where we started?

Can this be true? If its works that just the beginning of good thing in Nigeria, because other people past can be investigated too.

In Nigerian politics, action and reaction are not equal hence they take direction relatively to the will of man in power. Yes, the govt is looking for possibilty of prosecuting IBB,. this is well said , but am in doubt if they are prosecuting him to block from contesting 2011. well is Nigeria.
